I built this over the weekend as a short diversion while I was working out of a slump. I think building a flowery bakery downstairs while having a big honk'n "Acme" Death Ray upstairs entertained me enough. :)

I'm announcing my little series called "Sketch Friends"! 1-2 hour long sketches of my friend's faces!
From here on out, I'll be occasionally sketching my friends, and attempting to capture their personalities within that sketch. It might occasionally come with one of their quotes!
My skills are still growing, so you can see that "Kelly", which was done yesterday, is much better than the three I did back in June. I did a few more in June that I'll be re-doing now that I've grown even more.
(No, these are NOT done in "Most favored friend" to "Least favored friend". I do them at complete random...or if it looks really fun to sketch. :P)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Nightmare Painting for Fantasy Painting class.
Almost complete. :U
It's coming.
Concept Art is my favorite class this whole semester. Mostly because I can play around with ideas and execute them any way I want to.
This is the final piece for the "Alien Worlds" assignment. I had fun with it!
Yes, a bit on the cartoony side, but I didn't want to get too terribly...well...alien. :}U
Seems like a double post with two versions of the same picture, right?
In class, we had to draw an editorial-style portrait of a man or woman we admired. For me, Valve CEO Gabe Newell has been an inspirational man to me, and his company. Really, Valve is just awesome for their excellent work ethic, and unyielding dedication to quality...even if it takes a while. :-}P
On some assignments, you hit the limit of your skills, and grow from them. This was one of them, but there are also assignments that you're just plain tired of looking at it after working on them and working on them...yeah.
(Here's the photo that I am referencing)
Working on a Gabe Newell tribute thing. I technically "finished" it for class, colored and all...but in all honesty it didn't look all that great to me. I need to tweak a lot of things and redo the color.
Here's what I got so far. Iz preety far allong.
Apparently, this guy is not too...happy...with what he's seeing. I was trying to go for a sense of "awe" or "wonder"...not "terrified". Ah well. I'm making revisions to him in the near future...which includes the removing of his hand! -gasp!-
This guy's hand is awkward. I thought I'd slap this version of the figure up here before I chop off his hand and make his expression a bit more pleasant.
Iz nice hand. Too bad. -chop-
Moving right along in Concept Art class: creating an alien world, and aliens, and alien stuff! This...is going to take a while (a 6-week assignment).
These are the first few value study sketches of my made-up world: Yemfoe, the Megacity: NemYon, and the place where all YemFoians go to die: The Glistening Void. These are rough sketches, but they show the rough layout of my made-up world.
Yemfoe is a mineral geyser planet, and it spits up precious minerals that the inhabitants use to craft glorious things with.
The Megacity, NemYon (NY...HA!), was built on top of the planet's largest and richest (in minerals) geyser. The rich live on the bottom, near all the minerals being harvested, and the poorer people live on top of the city (the view is nice, but the minerals never make it that high anymore).
And finally, The Glistening Void, where all Yemfoians go to break down into primordial goo to be reborn as someone or something else later.
So far, I've been having fun with it. More on the way!
(Photoshop CS5)
I think this turned out rather well! The statues are the best part, I think.
This was practice for me in a technique where you color everything in black and white, not worrying about color, and then going back on a separate layer and using the "Overlay" option to give the white areas color. It takes some getting used to, but I'm getting the hang of it.
This is part of a fake "advertising campaign" for Illustration Studio II. We included the logo or brand name during the critiques in class, but for various (and obvious) legal reasons, I couldn't put the company's logo on this work. The hook-line for my advertisement campaign is "Be Legendary", and the object in question is a basket ball from a certain company (we each chose our own object from this particular company).
Lots of funny, and cool things will come out of this campaign assignment, so stay tuned!
(Oil Painting, Advanced Anatomy II Class)
N.C. Wyeth's work practically created our views of pirates today. Without his romanticized versions of pirates, we probably wouldn't have "Pirates of the Caribbean". Ok, we can do without the forth movie.
Anyways, this isn't too much like N.C. Wyeth mostly because I suck at oil painting. The assignment was to attempt to do an N.C. Wyeth-style piece using the model we had in class as reference. The head is just slightly too small...(or maybe the baggy clothes and huge hat make hide his proportions) but what you should REALLY be looking at are his kick-ass pants. It's probably the first time I've done a good painting in oils, and it just so happens I did a good job on the folds in this guy's pants. I like the beach too. The clouds look childish...blah. I'm so tired.
I'm gonna go just sit and not paint with oils for...a week. :-/
Quick color comp I did for my "hero" character for the Steampunk assignment in Concept Art.
Not a great color comp, but it gets the job done. I don't know if I'll be doing anything with this character in the future...but I do like that arm. It extends to catch criminals, or to catch cats in trees.
I dunno. I'm new to the whole SteamPunk scene.
Just wait until I post the "Hero" these things go with. >_>
Actually, he's pretty legit.
(Concept Art Class, Hybrid Animal Project)
While the muscle and skeleton need more fleshing out and defining, the tone study turned out decently.
Head of an Anteater, Body of a Lemur, Front legs of a Flamingo, Back legs of a Salamander.
Go huumn. Go!
What happens when you're drawing hybrid animals for Concept Art...then get other ideas.
:3
"WHY DID I BUY THIS?!"
A unfinished drawing of my Steam-Punk Vehicle of Extreme Impracticality (for Concept Art class). The lower left was a first draft.
