Ooo if Stan is feeling merciful and kind maybe he let's Shermie 'live' his afterlife in good dreams? Like occasionally checking on him but mostly just crafting his own worlds and fantasies.
Eldritch
Of course Stanley's merciful and kind! He's not a bad guy! He cares a lot about humans and makes sure not to cause ripples or drive people crazy with his presence, while also spending time with his family. He's doing his best not to step on all the mortal planets, talking softly so he doesn't cause brains to bleed, and only sometimes peeks into others dreams and makes them go insane because they can't comprehend what they're dreaming about.
He's just now the human shaped personification of The Fish, which is, in turn, a fraction of Bills own power, and so eventually forgets what it's like to be human as time erodes his human memories, to the point that he doesn't quite remember why this tiny human soul makes him smile, or why he's hesitant to let it go onto whatever afterlife it's destined to.
(A part of him does know that, as Stanford had a direct hand in Shermies birth and creation, that this was always where Shermie was destined to end up one way or another)
Shermies afterlife is pretty cozy though, since he lives on Stanley's shelf for all eternity. Stanley's The Dream guy, so just by soaking up all the Dream energy buzzing around, Shermies set to dream pleasant dreams forever. Sure sometimes he remembers none of this is real, he's on a shelf, and his grandchildren were kidnapped and warped into terrifying beings that don't even spare him a second glance when they come visit their Grunkle Stanley, but most of the time he's having a great time living a lie.
Actually you know what? Thinking on it, Shermies not just a shiny soul in a jar or anything, he's a shiny soul in Stans living room fish tank. Just vibing. Snoozing away. Shimmers nicely while the kids feed him soul flakes. His memory never degrading because he's not been warped by unimaginable power, his afterlife is just being Stanley's pet soul in a tank.
He still has nice dreams though, and any humans that saw him would see a fish. Or a lobster. Or anything else that lives in water and small enough to fit in Stanley's livingroom fish tank.

The end is nigh!
It's the thirtieth day of Halloeterodeen and I have saved the best for last, or so I fondly believe. It is hard to choose between the final two wallpaper images I have queued up, so I'm going in reverse order of creation. Although the copyright text at the bottom of today's image dates this wallpaper to 2013, Phil's signature, on one of the crenelations, puts the date at 2010.
Shine on, shine on Heterodyne moon, up in the sky! (The moon article I'm linking to here is in a disgraceful state, actually. We can always use more help on the Girl Genius wiki!)
Agatha, Gil, Tarvek, and Krosp are all on the top of a turreted tower, perhaps part of Castle Heterodyne. Agatha is seated at the controls of a large, Sparky death ray, which she has just used to etch a Jäger-like, grinning visage across the face of the full moon. She is smiling, broadly and only slightly sheepishly, at a dismayed and flabbergasted Gil. Tarvek gazes at the moon with quiet, fond amusement, while Krosp seems distracted by something else entirely, off to the side.
Saw some shitposts involving humorous edits of Calvin and Hobbes comics and wanted to make one of my own
I don’t know what inspired this specifically but it makes me laugh in a dark humor sort of way
