EXCITING NEWS!! Today, the company I do art for, XGen Studios, released The Low Road on Steam! It’s such a great feeling to finally get to show all of the illustrations I’ve been working on over the past 3 and a half years. It feels a bit strange to not get that immediate feedback that we’re so used to as artists these days, but it’s so rewarding to see it all come together in the final months and weeks. Working with this team of supportive and hardworking creative individuals makes these Long Projects feel short.

I’ve been working on this point and click adventure called The Low Road with XGen Studios for the last few years now and I’m super proud of the work that the team has been able to put together. We’ve been through a lot. Our founder and CEO, Skye Boyes, passed away suddenly over a year ago in the midst of the production of this game, and I have to say that it’s been an emotional challenge at times to power through without his inspirtation, leadership and friendship to fall back on. We’ve overcome a lot and we still have lots of work to do ahead of us, but it feels great to finally start sharing all the hard work that has been put into this game.

I’m putting together a collection of my work into a small-format book for your enjoyment. The book is planned to be a short-run collection of some of my favorite traditional and digital drawings. Likely, it will give you a sense of the fantastical chaos that goes on inside my head on a day-to-day basis. Why should my drawings be relegated to a dusty shelf sandwiched between a jar of rotten preserved lemons and photographs of ex-girlfriends? They shouldn’t, that’s why we are here.

Spent much of the day drawing. Much love to my Valentine @jmichek for letting me huddle around my iPad for hours (in fairness, she was playing Firewatch and I was avoiding spoilers). I'm loving Procreate!

Last week at figure drawing I spent the entire 3 hours with Adobe Sketch with that pencil tool that I love. This week I worked exclusively in Procreate, and I'm so impressed with this program. It takes a while to get used to not using keyboard hotkeys for everything, but once you do you have a more natural digital painting experience where the software sits back and just lets you paint. I still don't think I can use the iPad Pro from start to finish on a piece, but I could probably get an illustration about 70% of the way there and throw it into photoshop to clean everything up. Mid-way through the rendering of the figure on the right I finished up at home. I'll post the video that Procreate records... It's almost like the ol' Oekaki days! Many many thanks to Tara Mueller for the brushes.
