I am forever torn about Dune getting like, the pop culture zeitgeist treatment because on one hand, it's SO nice to be able to share my favorite book series with others. To have a director i deeply respect and love adapt the book in a way that's unique visually. But man, does it hurt to watch all the original art and designs basically just fall by the wayside as everyone just copies Villanueva's designs. I miss the creativity, I miss the fun, i miss the niche...

I agree. The costume designs, for instance, were ultimately Nolanified for the sake of the audience. A necessary cost to get the movies made. But I think back over the years to all the inventive, cringe, beautiful, and absurd takes on an already absurd world and I wonder what we could have seen. This isn’t just about Jodorowsky, this is about what was inherent to the source material. Freak shit!
