Hey guys, so I know I rarely post personal stuff but this is a really important issue so I figured I had to say something. As you all know, the Women’s March was Jan. 21 and even though I could not attend I was so overwhelmed with happiness seeing the record-breaking crowds aggregate in DC and all major cities to support females. In light of this, I wanted to discuss women’s inequality in STEM positions. We can sit here and argue about how women enjoy equal pay and are afforded the same job opportunities as men, however, working with science, technology, mathematics, and engineering this is not the case and you will not realize this until you work in a lab with all men who treat you as a novelty and choose to work with you just because you’re a girl. You will not realize this until you’re in a tech room and you’re the only one not allowed to use the circular saw. You will not realize this until you passionately argue about the way someone’s code is written poorly and they ask you if you’re on your period. This ignorance, unintentional or otherwise, has been passed down through generations and it’s time we put an end to it. I have created tshirts and other merchandise whose profits will be sent to a charity helping Mexican and Afghani girls obtain an education and an opportunity to better our world. I hope many of you can proudly call yourselves STEMinists and even cop a tshirt or sticker to support the future of our world.
