Leadership Lessons From Dancing Guy is more than just a humorous satire on leadership principles and cult followings. If you have studied leadership in a behavioral psychology setting such as I/O psychology you understand that there is some truth to what the narrator is saying about how one’s leadership influences others.

While Dancing guy will receive the credit for his new dance craze it is really the first follower who dared to mimic his behavior that helped others feel comfortable enough to join in.

If you are attempting to start a new hall program aimed at helping residents interact with each other (such as getting residents involved in an “Instagram Your Community" hall event) you can increase the likelihood of the program’s success by requiring your resident staff and hall council to become actively involved first.

You need them to be your “first follower” in order to help others feel comfortable with participating in your event. This will create a cultural norm in your community that will influence others to join and participate in.
