Ariana shifted her weight from side-to-side, trying to fight the uncomfortable feelings that were beginning to creep in as she listened to Scott. She opened her mouth to speak and noticed the glistening of his eyes; recognizing the pain and the tears. “Almost everyone has lost somebody,” She started. “If you haven’t, you’re one of the lucky ones. But, it’s bound to happen if it hasn’t already. Death’s always going to be a part of life, no matter what. You can try and fight it by blamin’ yourself for not doing all that you could do, or maybe not even being there for whoever, but you can’t change the outcome. You can’t let your past keep you from your future.”

“I, uh. Well. Someone died and it’s my fault. It’s been four years, and I couldn’t protect him, and it’s my own damn fault. I hate myself for what happened ta him.” Tears are coming to his eyes and even though he’s trying to keep them back, he knows she can see.

Ariana narrowed her eyes at Scott with skepticism. “I don’t believe that sometimes waiting is the only thing you can do, there’s always something,” She replied, shaking her head. “Nor do I believe that you don’t wanna talk,” She added, before looking down at the coin in her hand. Ariana inhaled, returned her eyes to Scott’s and flipped the drachma over to him so that he could catch it. “—Drachma for your thoughts?” She asked. “I promise you can never be as fucked up as me.”
