To celebrate the announcement of the iPhone 6 yesterday, Apple said that they would be giving away U2’s new album, Songs of Innocence, to anyone with iTunes as—in Rolling Stone’s words—“a gift.” That’s like saying that a brand new car comes with the “gift” of having a decomposing body strapped to the passenger seat. What a gross confluence of self-promotion, commercialization of music, and corporate dick-suckery. It’s not surprising though. U2 has always done gimmicky shit like this to force their godawful music down the world’s collective throat. There are so, so many things like this that I hate about U2. Here are ten of them.
