“Did anything change since I been gone?”Â
Looks like the same dirty place but who knows. She’s gonna take cover in the same spot like always, under a covered patio. Smoking her cigarettes and drinking her wine on the same rocking chair she use to sit on when she use to work here.
“Something’s… not everything”
Comes the Italian drawl from the Scout peering at her from the counter where she sits. They haven’t met before but, now would be a good time to do that. Talking and meeting other Mercenaries. Woo, socializing! Ceres wasn’t all about it.
“Yeah? Like what?”Â
Tessa turned her head raising her chocolate brown eyebrows up high. Great…a scout. It’s better then sitting by yourself. In one little huff, Tess gave a red lip smile, her white teeth barely peering through.Â
“I’m Tessa , you can call me Tess if you want.”
“The people, I suppose”
Ceres looks down at her with a solemn expression. The people she’s come into contact with are quieter than when she first took to these fields. Things are personal and more of a mess too. She couldn’t go too much into depth with it.
“My name is Ceres. It’s..”, I couldn’t say, “nice to meet you”
Such formalities aren’t expected from her class. What her class entails is what the previous scout left behind and it’s unpleasant to deal with now at times.
“How long have you been here Tess?”
“I could of never guessed”
She gave a half laugh and half shrug. “Nice to meet you Ceres, pretty name”
The people, the people the people, it’s always the people. It’s people that made her come here, it’s people that made her leave, it’s the people that made her come back.
“I had a 5 year contract here 4 years back, it expired so I left to go do somethings. Somethings made me come back and renew.”
“Thank you”
She had yawned as she said it. The Scout rolls her shoulders.
“If I may ask, what was your class?”
She hated that question, no one ever thinks she should be a solider.Â
“Once a solider, always a solider. I came back to resume my position.”
She smiles at those words, liking how they sound despite their deeper premise.
“That’s admirable. Most don’t want to return to such a title”
“Thanks, it was the only thing I was good at. I didn’t really have as much of a choice.”
Soldier, solly, same shit. You’re either dumb as rocks or lost your so called freedom. A quick glance of the scout, she knew she wasn’t the worse off.
She could of been a scout.
Not much of a choice? Hm..
That’s not true in the slightest. There’s always a choice, and she had chose to come back and do this. To be a Soldier. Someone that isn’t afraid to get up close and blow people to bits and pieces.
“I won’t agree with you on that but, I take it you were a fine soldier. Someone respectable”
“Thank you, I showed no mercy on the field. I just wish when I left I didn’t need to come back, but what can I do the past is the past.”
Tomorrow was her first battle in 4 years with respawn. When she left it was a never ending battle. World works in weird ways.Â
“What brought you here?”
“I fled my homeland in search of sanctuary from the misdeeds of my people. Ideally, this isn’t it, but I’ve made the most of it with the people I’ve met and will continue to meet. It’s strangely better than what I had wanted”
The exact details were too personal for a first meeting, but it’d suffice to tell her this much.
