Hearing Merle would come with him was all he ever wanted since they found each other again. To know maybe…Maybe they really could work this out. That they could-…That he could really have a real family even at the end of the world. It meant the world to him.

Without really thinking about it, he tugged Merle to him, yanking his elder brother into a tight hug. Hell, the first real embrace they’ve had since they were kids. And he just held him.

“…Yeah. N’know. You’re my family. M’brother….thank you.” Daryl whispered gruffly against Merle’s shoulder.

Merle was ready to go back to his cell, but then he was hugged, Merle didn’t move, he felt the hug and relaxed, it was so good, warm, Merle closed his eyes and breathed deeply again, hugging his brother and not letting go.

“...sh...shuddup..”
