the thing is that fandom has instilled this idea of you can do whatever you want forever and

historically 'transformative' works that played hand-in-hand with this were focused on 'default' characters considering most popular works have predominantly been dominated by / focused on cishet white etc experiences

when you do it with marginalized characters with strikingly little examples available, ESPECIALLY when the story focuses heavily on the experience of that marginalization/identity it's just contributing to erasure and it's obnoxious
