Solange Knowles made a surprise appearance at Sankofa Video Books & Cafe where she purchased 250 books for Howard University students and fans. The “Cranes In the Sky” singer visited the Black-owned bookstore in Washington, D.C., Friday, Jan. 20, the day President Donald Trump was sworn into office.
The singer’s Saint Heron Instagram page revealed Knowles would stop by the bookstore specializing in Black culture and encouraged fans to attend to pick out a title and talk with the star.
Great job Solange! She didn’t owe them anything, so it’s great that she stepped outside her charmed life to help them instead of just sitting back talking about what somebody SHOULD do, like most folks.
The average college book is about $100 dollars and there are some books that cost $200 dollars. Multiply 250 books by the average cost of $100 and Solange spent $25,000. It may not be a lot of books but it’s a lot of money to give away.
That’s a lot of students who were helped. The next person who can afford to help, pick up that torch and run with it, buy 250 more books.
On the surface,
It’s immoral, prejudice, malicious, and inhumane.
Underneath, it’s breeding hatred and disdain - on both sides - that will only continue to grow stronger if nothing is done to disrupt and halt current actions. Suspending the refugee program and banning immigrant entry from specific majority Muslim countries will cause more unrest. And it will help to sustain dangerous stereotypes, bigotry, and violent, radical behavior towards many innocent individuals that have no ties to the extreme few. This is the beginning of Trump’s America if the people don’t speak up and rise up to stop him.
