kingsley   team, i   won’t   sugarcoat   this:   this   hurts. we   were   a   family.   we   bled   in   the   same   trauma   bays,   built   something   out   of   grit   and   sweat   and   loyalty.   we   didn't   have   the   newest   equipment   or   the   cleanest   hallways,   but   we   had   each   other.   and   now,   we're   walking   into   someone   else’s   house,   with   our   bags   in   hand,   hoping   we   still   have   a   place   at   the   table.   here’s   what   I   want   you   to   remember:

you   earned   your   seat.   don’t   let   anyone   look   at   your   badge   and   treat   you   like   baggage.   you   carry   years   of   experience,   integrity,   and   outcomes   they’ll   be   lucky   to   match.

you   don’t   shrink.   yes,   lexington   is   big,   glossy   and   prestigious,   but   they’ve   never   had   to   fight   the   way   we   have.   we   bring   resilience   they   haven’t   seen.

we   stick   together.   there’s   no   kingsley   building   anymore   ⸺   but   we   make   kingsley.   every   time   you   scrub   in,   every   patient   you   fight   for,   every   intern   you   lift   ⸺   that’s   what   survives.

you’ll   still   report   to   me.   i’ll   still   be   chief   ⸺   for   now.   and   i’ll   be   watching   closely   to   make   sure   we’re   not   sidelined   or   diluted   in   this   “integration.” you’ve   always   made   me   proud.   let’s   show   them   why.

team, by   now,   you’ve   seen   the   joint   email   regarding   the   integration   of   kingsley   memorial   hospital   into   our   campus.   i   want   to   speak   to   you   directly,   without   the   layers   of   boardroom   diplomacy. this   is   not   a   drill,   a   hypothetical,   or   a   temporary   arrangement.   our   hospital   ⸺   our   ORs,   our   halls,   our   teaching   rooms   ⸺   are   about   to   get   very   full   very   fast. i   know   this   team.   i   know   you.   i   know   how   hard   you’ve   worked,   how   fiercely   you   protect   our   standards.   and   i   know   how   easy   it   will   be   to   slip   into   resentment,   competition,   or   territorialism,   this   is   the   time   we   let   that   go.   that's   not   who   we   are.   not   anymore.   this   transition   isn’t   optional,   but   the   way   we   navigate   it   is   entirely   up   to   us. here’s   what   i   ask   of   you:

hold   the   line   on   excellence:   no   lowering   of   standards.   we   don’t   adjust   to   disruption   by   getting   sloppy.

be   open,   but   not   naive:   kingsley   surgeons   are   capable,   many   are   brilliant.   some   will   challenge   you,   rise   to   it.   show   what   you're   also   capable   of.

protect   your   identity,   but   leave   room   for   evolution.   we   are   lexington.   we   are   elite.   yet,   medicine   is   about   growth,   not   ego.   don't   let   your   ambition   get   above   the   lifes   of   your   patients.

for   now,   kingsley’s   staff   will   rotate   into   our   operating   rooms   schedule   starting   next   week.   i   will   remain   your   chief,   and   i   will   advocate   for   your   work,   as   long   as   it   remains   above   reproach. if   you   have   concerns,   speak   to   me.   not   the   walls,   not   the   stairwells.

When your position within the hospital is in a more administrative vein than most, but you still want to be a team player (and maybe get major points with your tween nieces), you show off the closest thing you have to a hospital locker: your office desk drawers!  Now, admittedly, there's a lot on and in her desk that she isn't eager to show off.  The downside of heading up the legal department of a hospital, you understand––yet two out of four drawers ain't bad! / @scrubsinspo

#001:  BOTTOM LEFT DRAWER!

Considered her emergency drawer.  She's got a spare set of clothes, lest any coffee spills or wardrobe malfunctions befall her, as well as a 3-pack of pantyhose from the Duane Reade around the corner; she's got some loose cosmetic bits (lipstick, mascara, perfume, powder) in case the need for a touch-up occurs; a mini-toiletries bag, with baby wipes, deodorant, hand sanitiser, a lint roller, floss, and a pack of those colgate wisp disposable toothbrushes.

#002:  BOTTOM RIGHT DRAWER!

Where she stores her lunch; some days she doesn't bother touching it and elects to either eat in the cafeteria or to go out for a bite to eat, but she brings it nonetheless.  (She also usually keeps a couple cans of Dr. Pepper in this drawer, for when the vending machines are in a fighting mood.)  There's a soft & small blanket, a cheap one from Target, just to throw on her lap when it gets a little chilly.  She also has a little first aid 'box' in this drawer, more a storage tray with bandaids and some OTC medication for when a headache or heartburn hits at an inopportune time.

#BONUS:  A PEEK AT HER DESK!

Alright, fine, just to give you a little looksie!  The key items are her desk are primarily folders and notepads tucked neatly into a metal desk organiser, her laptop (in addition to her work-issued desktop), a jar of Jolly Ranchers that visitors to her office––the few who dare––are always welcome to pick at, and a framed photo of her beloved greyhound rescue Earl.

straight   from   the   queens,   kingsley   staff   comes   in   hot   with   trauma   boots,   prayer   cards,   stress   balls   and   a   thermos   that's   been   through   literal   hell   but   somehow   still   keeps   their   coffee   hot.
