Rogue One. Acrylic painting on cold-pressed watercolour block. My touchstone for this piece was John Berkey's beautiful Star Wars art from the cover of the original 70s novelisation, so of course I couldn't resist mocking it up into a book cover too.
Cover art to Issue 65 of Journey Planet, which is a deep delve into Rogue One . There's a detailed article about my inspiration and the process in the same issue (free to download from journeyplanet.weebly.com).

This is an original color test, hand-colored by AKIRA creator Katsuhiro Otomo.
In colorist Steve Oliff’s own words:
Even before I was chosen to work on the book, Otomo had worked out some rough color schemes and concept ideas about how he wanted the coloring on AKIRA to look. So he began coloring the black and white printed edition by hand to get an idea. But the colors bled on the newsprint, and he was unable to be as precise with the colors as he wanted. Also, he was unable to make any notes. So he then printed out large copies to color with marker. And those were given to me.
We are very proud to be able to offer this original color piece from Katsuhiro Otomo. Our gratitude to Mr. Otomo and Steve for donating this piece to our auction.
