Well .... once again ... this truck is on a flatbed headed to undergo yet another major repair. When I bought this truck 16 years ago this March, then paid it off about 10 years ago, I didn't imagine I'd actually keep it this long. I said I was going to drive it till the wheels fell off, and I think this is what is coming to pass! I love owning it, not having a payment, and when I pay this car off in the spring, I look forward to owning 2 vehicles with no payment. But the reality is, they don't even make parts for this truck anymore, and any parts that I need to replace on it, such as the rear end that is currently in need of replacement, has to mined from a scrap yard. Wheras the repair is going to be relatively cheap, that's still about 500.00 I'd rather be spending on something else. Additionally, with me being in dialysis in addition to my other medical issues, and my elderly mother dealing with cancer among her other medical issues, I need solid reliable transportation, especially this time of year! I thank God the day this truck broke down that we didn't get that 10" of snow, because I would've really been stuck! So in conclusion, I hope my mechanic can get it back up and running soon. Especially before the next "big storm". Because this will be the last BIG FIX! My goal this summer is to get a house, but by next fall, I want and need a new truck. So in yesterday's episode, I went to treatment, and noticed there was some vibration coming from my left front wheel. So after I left the clinic, I headed to VW of LaVista to have them check the tire pressure and top off the fluids. Before I went, I perused their site to see what they had available, and of all the inventory this stood out! 2018 VW Atlas SEL-R. Fully loaded, leather interior, 3rd row seats, etc. It checked off all of the boxes! The price was right, it has 90k miles. I test drove it, I liked the features and the ride was decent. But alas, when it came time to do the credit app, I backed out. Reality tapped me on the shoulder and reminded me I have 7 payments left on my current loan, I'm not going to get anywhere close to what I want for my trade in, (which is the Trailblazer), and I do not feel like immediately getting under another carnote! Plus ... I would only have a one year dealer warranty. Anything beyond that would be like 40.00/MO. MORAL TO THE STORY: Wisdom prevailed! As much as I want and need a new truck, it will have to wait. Props to the salesman who tried the ... "These don't come along very often, at least nit this nice at this price ..." 😒 I started to say, "These trucks are literally parked all over this lot right now ... AND THEY AREN'T ALL BRAND NEW! GTFOH WITH THAT 'NOT THIS NICE AT THIS PRICE' - S🤬T!!", but I held my tongue. All of that aside, the other reason I didn't pursue it is because it just didn't feel right. I didn't get that BLESSED ASSURANCE ... that this VW was mine! Besides, I really want a house! Saw one listed today that would be a good starter home. What to do? And how to do it?
