It had been many decades since Chloé had joined the Academy for Butlers.

Back then she had left her old life behind with nothing much, but hope for a better one, a new name and the support of her best friend and mentor. Now an old woman, still working, still proudly wearing the name of her friend long gone, she finds herself in a situation quite reminiscent of her past. Except, this time the roles are reversed.

Young Marie is a girl that is prideful, stubborn and often rude. She is also incredibly lonely and feels lost with the absence of her mother and the strictness of her father.

Chloé will do her best, to help this girl, like she was helped a long time ago.

i don't know how to explain to you that depicting loss is one of the most common forms of art and that authors "maximize pain" for artistic and narrative reasons. every element of a story is something an author has the power to just "not". because it is made up. this is the story the author wanted to tell. are you following me

I just finished the prologue for a story in which Chloé is basically (not literally) adopted by her butler Jean, who ends up being more of a parent than Andre or Audrey. Taking after him she decides to become a butler herself.

The prologue shows us a Chloé in her 60`s, after decades of working as a butler. She has just started work for a new family, with an 8 year old girl and a strict, mostly absentee father. The girl is rude and doesn't like her very much, but Chloé is reminded of her younger self and attempts to befriend her.

The main story after the prologue would be Chloé telling the young girl about her own childhood and what made her become a butler in the end. With probably only the epilogue playing again in the 'now'.

Here is the thing: I had fun writing this and liked how it turned out, but I have literally no idea what to do with it. I don't really have many ideas for the actual story and don't know if it even is an idea with much potential to begin with.

So I guess this are just 3000 words that will sit in my Google docs files for quite some time :P

Update:

Writing the final Draft takes longer than expected (probably because the original Draft was a very spontaneous writing decision and I have a ton of minor things to correct), but it still comes along nicely.

The more time I spend with this idea the more it grows on me and I really hope I can write a proper Story for this in the future.

Anyway, the fic's Title will be "To be of Service" and I can hopefully release the Prologue either this weekend, or by the next week at the latest.

Alright. The first 3000 words draft became an almost 5000 words final draft. It honestly was a pleasant writing experience. Will it be a pleasant reading experience? I guess everyone has to decide for themselves. Tomorrow I will go over the text one final time to check for spelling errors and then I will upload what is currently best described as the Beginning of an Idea for a Story. Also I decided to change the title to:
