My current aesthetic: Reading every news article on the internet about our SDSU Football team beating Cal #GOAZTECS
Iām graduating from SDCC today and heading to SDSU in the fall. Itās been really city college but this girl off to bigger and better things āš¼ļø
Freshman year - Every day after class I headed straight to my dorm to watch KDramas and play video games. I didnāt study much because the high school-to-college transition process was extremely difficult for me to accept. Thus, my self-esteem began to slowly spiral down..
Sophomore year - After my exboyfriend and I parted ways, everything else collapsed. I performed poorly in all of my classes and gave up too soon. I wanted to drop out of SDSU and attend community college. Lastly, I even considered suicide multiple times because the stress and depression was beyond my control⦠I felt hopeless, unworthy, and STUPIDā¦
Junior year - Switched my major to anthropology and followed my interests. I wanted to make up for my poor performance in fresh-soph year so I pushed myself and changed my priorities. 24/7 coffee shops became myĀ home for the following nights, months and years to come. Towards the end of junior year I was introduced to medical anthropology, public health, and research. I, again, allowed my interests to guide me.
Senior year - I worked as the Lead Research Assistant for the (then) Division Head of the Health Management Policy Program at the Graduate School of Public Health. I was also hired to work as the Lead Research Associate for the President of Society for Medical Anthropology. I traveled more for academic/career growth: Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Canada, Hawai'i, and San Francisco. I won the Research Award for Diversity, Social Justice, and Inclusiveness at SDSUās Student Research Symposium for the public health research study. I also won First Place at the poster competition at the Southwestern Anthropological Association Conference for the medical anthropological research study as well. Now - my first job(s) out of college are working as a Research Assistant for the Director of Undergraduate Studies and a PostDoc at the Graduate School of Public Health.
The purpose for sharing a brief overview of my college experience is to remind everyone how nonlinear college can be. I crawled, fell flat on my face, walked, and ran for what I believed what was right for me. I didnāt allow my failures to define me forever. I strategically used negative energy to power my drive to work hard for my dreams, goals, and aspirations. THATāS HOW I DID IT. I continuously set the bar higher and higher to further myself from the freshman self I once knew.
To sum everything up: IF YOUR DREAMS DONāT SCARE YOU, THEN THEYāRE NOT BIG ENOUGH.
Year 1: Mission Complete š ..until next year, SDSUš¤š¼ (at San Diego State University)
Two years of college completed at SDSU. (at San Diego State University)
I used to pull all-nighters but now I can barely pull all-dayers
Congrats to our 2016 graduates! We are so proud! Commencement ceremonies begin today at 11 a.m. and continue until May 15.
2 days left! (at San Diego State University)
Poetry confuses me. I havenāt the faintest idea who God is. Ambiguous endings in literature frustrate me to no end, yet they are all I write. I donāt understand the world, but I know this a beautiful flower on a campus that changes lives and the world feels okay again. @sandiegostate thanks for making my second year even better than the first. Letās see what you throw at me in the fall. (at San Diego State University)
Summerās Callingā¦..Whoās Ready? š (at San Diego State University)
25 hours until Iām finished with college?!? i can hardly contain myself šš Day 10: BM + Foodā¦. Champagne is food, right? ššÆššš#bmpicadaymay #imissedday9 #blackmilkclothing #bmgalaxysupernovavstartanpunkinsideoutdress #24hourchampagnediet #champagneshowers #sdsugrad #1finalleft (at San Diego State University)
Highly recommend Forensic Anthropology 360 as an elective for SDSU students. Itās an awesome class #anth360 #forensicanthropology #art #anatomicallyinaccurateskull #doodle (at San Diego State University)
I was in sociology class [at San Diego State University] and the teacher mentioned piercing the veil, which meant to go directly to the root of a problem and cut it out completely at the source. I really liked the concept of stopping things that hurt you before they build up over time.
Vic Fuentes, on naming Pierce the Veil (via the--quote--notebook)
Freshman Drue Horton is a journalism major from Missouri. See why she chose SDSU: āI knew that I wanted to go to school in California after I went on vacation with my parents. As soon as I set foot on campus I was immediately in love with the Spanish architecture. I write for the Odyssey online and Iām a desk assistant at the residence halls; Iām able to balance the two jobs with class well. I live in Olmeca; everyone there is nice, my RAās are awesome and itās an environment where everyone leaves their doors open and socializes. I came out here not knowing anyone which was scary at first but Iāve made friends easily. I never realized how independent I was until I got to college. Itās nice to realize that I can do this and itās possible.ā
It isnāt every day that the #FLOTUS Michelle Obama recognizes #SDSU on Instagram but today she did! Weāre so honored!
Ellie Goulding blew me away last night. ā¤ļøāš¼ļøšš» #elliegoulding #sdsu #concertseriesbyashley (at Viejas Arena)
