We hope these themes inspire the community to create, share, and celebrate all things Neris. We'd love to have you join us!

Nesta fans are honestly some of the calmest people in this fandom, which is funny considering how chaotic every other ship side has become lately after the Valkyrie marketing 🤔😅

But something that genuinely fascinates me is the way the fandom talks about Nesta’s role in the future narrative.

Apparently every main ship still has “important future storylines,” every character is secretly the chosen one for something, every theory somehow revolves around Elain, Azriel, Lucien, Bryce, Gwyn, Feyre… or basically anyone else.

And I genuinely do not understand HOW people reached that conclusion when SJM keeps directly tying major narrative elements to Nesta.

Claiming the Dread Trove? Apparently irrelevant now.

Being repeatedly associated with the Mother and fate? Doesn’t matter.

Having one of the strongest reactions to the Prison in the entire series? Nope, that belongs to Bryce now.

Feeling something ancient calling to her from the Prison? Immediately forgotten because Elain mentioned the Prison once.

Bryce literally handing Gwydion to Nesta? Somehow that STILL becomes: “Well actually, the sword is probably for Elain/Azriel/Lucien/Feyre.”

Nesta mastering the Harp, the literal object tied to space, worlds, and reality? Nope, fandom theories immediately reassign that to somebody else too

And this keeps happening over and over again.

Every storyline connected to Nesta gets reframed as setup for another character.

At a certain point, it genuinely starts feeling like part of the fandom sees Nesta less as a protagonist and more as a narrative stepping stone for everyone else.

Which is wild because if NONE of these storylines are actually meant for Nesta… then what exactly is her role in the series supposed to be?

SO WITH ALL THAT IN MIND, I HAVE CREATED THE PERFECT NESTA NARRATIVE:

Honestly, if everyone is so convinced Nesta no longer “needs” an important role, then she should just grab a backpack and go explore the ACOTAR world.

And I’m being completely serious when I say that book would instantly become my favorite in the series.

Just Nesta traveling through Prythian and beyond, wandering through forgotten territories, ancient ruins, abandoned courts, human lands, libraries filled with cursed knowledge, interacting with strange magic, accidentally uncovering terrifying secrets, getting dragged into political disasters against her will, threatening rude men in random taverns, drinking expensive wine she absolutely did not pay for, and discovering how enormous and ancient this world truly is outside Velaris.

Nesta would honestly be the PERFECT character to explore that side of the universe.

She questions things, resists narratives, notices uncomfortable truths, challenges authority, and is naturally drawn toward hidden or dangerous things.

She just needs to make sure Cassian does NOT follow her because that man can somehow turn everything into either a walk of shame or a conversation about himself, and Azriel absolutely cannot pack her travel bag 😭

At this point, Indiana Jones Nesta of Prythian would genuinely be a massive success.

One like nitpick thing that drives me crazy is when people call Blue Whales the largest whales or the largest living mammals or some shit like that

Because yes that is true. But when you frame it like that you are completely disregarding the absolutely batshit reality that Blue Whales are the largest animals that have ever existed on earth through the entire history of the planet and they are alive right now today

Nesta Antis & Nessian Shippers

You do see a lot of fans who despise Nesta also support the Nessian ship, and dislike critiques of it or any suggestion that Nesta will find love elsewhere. You'd think that Nesta antis who love Feyre, Cassian and the Inner Circle would be delighted to have Nesta go elsewhere, but instead they root for a Nessian endgame, and I suspect a big reason for that is they also read Cassian as loving Nesta less than Rhys/Feyre/the IC, and they can see that Nesta will always come bottom of the pecking order in the Night Court.

An intentionally tragic ending for Nesta would have left things too messy, too much sympathy for Nesta, too many people saying she deserved better. But a mediocre ending, wrapped up as a happy one, validated their belief in her inherent lesser worth. A mate who barely seems to like her, who loves and defends their faves more than her, who will be the first to put her down, to put her in her place, and glorify Feyre and Rhys, is perfect. It's as good as it's going to get for Nesta, and it's as good as she deserves.

Keeping her in the Inner Circle, where she's always going to be in a place of subordination, always with people whose friendship and forgiveness is something she will always have to be grateful for, Nesta the eternal penitent, punished for centuries but never in a way that tarnishes Feyre's golden girl reputation, is exactly where they want her. Nesta at the end of ACOSF was the perfect ending for her, because at last she was humbled, at last she accepted she was unworthy of love and kindness, and it is only Feyre and Cassian's marvellous benevolence and charity that grants her any, for which she will spend the rest of her life breaking her back to earn.

That's why so many of them have insisted Nesta's character development was undone in HOFAS, because by then Nesta isn't the broken, humbled, penitent Nesta of ACOSF, she's once more affirming that Rhys and Feyre don't rule her, she doesn't owe allegiance to them, the Troves are hers to command, and now she's got Gwydion and all.

I was rereading a favorite series of mine and came across this gem:

And it reminded me why acotar makes me so angry because there are many MANY examples of characters doing something that warrant a punch in the face or actions that actually don't require much thinking to realize, "huh that action makes sense for their situation" but because sjm can't write logically or a morally consistent mc to save her life, we get people praising the guy who drugged and owned his love interest and damning the guy who would've done anything to keep her safe after watching her die for him and his court. Because ultimately, regardless of what is canon, the narrative will carry out the author's wants, even if it makes no sense.

And before someone comes in here with the "she writes based on the vibes" NO DUH. The issue is not the vibes, its that the vibes keep changing! she doesn't write logically, not even within the framework of what she's already established. That's just bad workmanship and I wished more people would see that

reread the solstice scene from acofas and was surprised at how pleasant nesta was the entire time. from the way people talk about it, and from Cassian's reaction after she leaves, you'd think she was hissing and insulting everyone in the room. but no.

nesta wishes feyre happy birthday, she thanks elain for her gifts, and sits quietly, allowing them to continue with their presents. meanwhile mor gives cassian silk boxers that match the lingerie set he got her. nesta even kisses elain on the head before she leaves. she is 100% polite.

the next chapter is Cassian's pov and it starts with "he'd had enough. enough of the coldness, the sharpness. enough of the sword-straight spine and razor-sharp stare that had only honed itself these months"

It's so funny to me when acomaf tries to potray Tamlin and Spring Court as traditionalist and conservative when we see, on page, that it's the exact opposite

Tamlin dismantled his father's old ruling structure, got rid of slavery, welcomed refugees and included their traditions in the yearly celebrations of his subjects, walked among and played for his people, didn't enforce rank, had both male and female sentries and gave more options to people who can't pay a tithe instead of enforcing traditional hunting

Spring Court citizens are very accepting of new traditions and are sexualy liberal. They welcomed refugees as one of their own, gladly celebrate their traditions with them and they don't see orgies and open sexual acticities as something strange or immoral. Spring Court also doesn't have brothels which indicates there is no need for them in a society so accepting of casual sexual relationships

It's bizzare how the narrative in acomaf tries to reframe it as conservative, how it ignore all the previous informations presented to the readers in the first acotar book.

Instead it gaslit readers into believing that isolated, segregated, slums having, brothels having, female mutilation performing Night Court is somehow less conservative and traditional. As if IC didn't shame and punished Nesta for sleeping around, as if Rhysand didn't constantly enforce rank on other people, as if the ban on wing clipping wasn't enforced

Feyre in the Spring Court run around in tunics, rode horses, visited villages and hunted.

Feyre in the Night Court was imprisoned in a palace and a bubble, forced to wear sexy dresses Rhysand choose for her, got pregnant at very young age and was paraded around with heavy belly and skimpy dress do satisfy her husband's male pride

Tell me, which place and situation sounds more conservative to you?

I look at ASOIAF and there are so many heartbreaking stories and tragedies but my heart breaks for two women too much... Elia Martell and Sansa stark.

How I wish you deserved better, you deserved a better man who would have loved and cherished you the way you deserved. Someone like Ned or baelor, who would have cherished you and loved and respected you...

When you think of Tamlin’s power exploding at Feyre, remember Rhys twisting her broken arm.

When you think of Tamlin not reacting to Feyre’s torment UtM, think about Rhys being the center of that torment, drugging and SAing her for no reason other than to stick it to Tamlin.

When you think of Tamlin binding Feyre to the manor, think of Rhys warding the Moonstone Palace and warding her with a shield that prevented Cassian from kissing her.

When you think of what Tamlin said about Feyre at the High Lords’ meeting, think about Rhysand suicide baiting him for no reason, AND what Rhysand said about Feyre’s thoughts about Tamlin during ACOTAR.

When you think about Tamlin’s alliance with Hybern, remember it was to protect his court, get Feyre back, and gather information, whereas Rhys allied with Amarantha to keep one third of his court safe, leaving the rest to rot.

When you claim Tamlin lied to get Feyre over the wall, remember Rhys nearly fed Feyre to the Weaver, had her lie to Tarquin, and lied to her about her goddamn pregnancy.

When you demonize Tamlin, you better sure as hell put Rhys under the same microscope, otherwise I can’t take a word you say seriously.
