Is it just the people I know or are some people suuuuper weird about Helios' existence?? Like. People almost make me feel like I'm crazy for Not ignoring Him??? They'll just say that like, Helios is practically dead and thus Apollo is the sun god? And whenever you try to say otherwise they'll shut you down??? Is it just certain people or is it A Thing?

I personally never experienced anything like that. I usually see people politely reminding the masses that Helios exists or more like the opposite to what you're describing here where people are shutting down anyone who sees Apollo as a sun god, telling them that only Helios is the sun god. I've also gotten people feeling very guilty for associating Apollo with the sun because they don't want to disrespect or leave out Helios.

So idk, I guess you some how found your way into the Helios hating part of tumblr??

In my interpretation, Apollo governs the sun while Helios IS the sun (I do pretty much see all primordial deities as, like... The Big Spirits™ of what they represent). So there is literally place for both. Apollo drives the chariot, Helios is sprawled all across the back seat. Apollo is the Sun's personal chaperone, if you will.

Hi! I wanted to know if you have any tips on meditating with a deity, I’ve done it before but I’m still having trouble trying to do it and getting everything mixed up.

Hi! 

The traditional form of meditation where you stay still and close your eyes is very difficult for me because of my ADHD. So I hope it's okay that I reply to this with alternative ways you can meditate. 

Music:

Seriously, music is considered the language of the soul so I'm going to put this here. Here's the catch, you have to like the song. There are people who think the gods will like certain ancient sounding songs with themselves not being into the song but, in my experience, the gods LOVE new music! The gods will be enjoying the song through you so it's important for you to like the song as well. Make sure it's one that really moves you, it doesn't matter if it makes you happy, sad, mad, etc so long as it makes you feel. The whole premise of you listening to music is so you could feel the gods' energy and if a song reminds you of them then that's an easy and fun way to invoke them and meditate with them. 

Dancing:

this one can be an addition to the music one but you offer the gods energy through dancing. Imagine the gods being with you, over time you'll begin to feel them.

Counting your blessings:

Gratitude, in my opinion, is the best gift to the gods because not only are you acknowledging the help they've given you but it also helps you be more receptive to future blessings plus it helps you see how involved the gods are in your life. The gods like being thanked for what they provide. It's also how I do spell work, I charge my spells with energy from gratitude because the energy comes from deep within my heart and soul.

when you draw the gods or create something for them, imagine the gods over your shoulders watching over you and make a point to talk to them in your head.

I started laying down outside in the sun or by my altar listening to music and it’s been revolutionary for my meditation practice and for my relationships with my deities! This is especially great if you find the gods like to speak to you through music.

I find myself getting lost in the melodies which actually helps open my mind up to the divine and makes it a lot easier for them to speak to me.

I’ve also found this method has helped me a lot with my mental wellbeing. I’ve had days where I’ve woken up depressed and anxious but felt a lot better after taking the time to listen to some music and connect with my deities.

I’ve had a lot of epiphanies doing this and also real wonderful and intimate moments with my gods!

I def recommend everyone give it a try!

Also if I may chime in (wow, been a while since I was on this blog!), I would always get very easily distracted by my thoughts until I discovered the world of guided meditation/hypnosis videos on youtube. It's so much easier when there is someone to tell you what to do to get yourself into the right mood, hahah.

Hermes may be becoming the god I'm the closest with.

Don't get me wrong. Aphrodite is still pretty much my rolemodel. She's like the reflection of my higher self, of who I aspire to be, what I aspire to have and represent.

But Hermes... He's always with me through the mundane. He's been there after my heartbreak. And he's been on my mind a lot lately.

Do you ever ask the gods something and get an undesired godphone answer and you wonder if it's just you projecting your insecurities (because that does happen sometimes, which is why I find it crucial to check through multiple methods whenever it's something important) but then it turns out to be true and you're like "...oh."

In other words I got heartbroken and have to give up on who I considered a soulmate both romantically and platonically because I can't possibly even look at her without being overcome with a strong desire to just kiss her and hold her and share my domestic life with her, because she has someone now. I've waited too long and she moved on without me. And I find out days before we were to go to my senior prom together.

Should've trusted Aphrodite when she said "no".

That said, Hermes stayed with me for a little longer during evening prayer yesterday and comforted me. I really like him. Very friendly, very... visible (like, gives actual clear signs - puts hellishly accurate predictions in my head, knocks stuff over when he wants attention, etc), and we cooperate in many facets of my life. Seems like we make a good god-mortal duo, hahah.

My they/them wife and I always do something for the New Year like my family's 12 grapes ritual where you have to eat 12 grapes as soon as it strikes 12, each grape symbolizes a month. You follow it up with Champaign/wine. It's a Spanish tradition Spain got from Rome.

My family has been doing this ritual since waaaaaaay before my time and it wasn't until I met Dionysus that I realized it was directly connected to him.

We're going to Greece in a week and we were so caught up in getting ready for that, that I forgot to get the grapes and Champaign! ಠಗಠ

So instead we reviewed our decade and worked on our new year lists with the gods. We did gratitude prayers and thanked the gods.

My mother called and was like "you're breaking tradition? Are you going to be okay?"

To which Dionysus replied: "It's my tradition and Aela got permission to skip it this year Maria, chill."

I have a "tradition" of my own (in quotation marks because it's only, like, the second year I do this) which is basically new year's resolutions but witchy and revamped to actually mean asking the universe for things instead of putting tasks on myself which creates guilt when I inevitably fail :D

Basically, what I need is a piece of paper (as small as possible is great), something to write with, a candle and lighter, a bowl, chopsticks (optional) and I also like to have some water on me as usual when working with fire.

On the piece of paper I start with "In [year]:" and write a list - for example "I find the love of my life", or "My finances increase considerably". Typical witch etiquette: no "I will" or "I want" but "I do". I fold the paper.

Then I put the candle in the bowl, light it up and, using chopsticks as to not burn myself, light the paper on fire (I strongly advise opening all the windows or doing it outside, stuff stinks).

Usually, the flame dies pretty quickly. After that, I poke the paper repeatedly with the chopsticks to make as much of it fall off as possible. I gather the ash and cast it to the wind and the piece of paper that remained gets put in a box on the altar until the next New Year. I think this duality of sorts also symbolizes sending the intention out while keeping it in the back of my mind pretty neatly.

Not gods related but still extremely relevant and important to this blog.

So today I had to block a nazi blog. I only recognized that the blog that followed me was a nazi because it had “hitlerist” in the URL. Apparently they’re picking up more speed in the Hellenic polytheism community. I want to make it PERFECTLY clear that I do NOT want any nazis following me. Nazis are not welcome in this community, and I won’t even think about opening the door to them. No way. I don’t care if I lose folllwers over this, if the followers were self proclaimed nazis or hitler apologists then they’re not the kind of people I want interacting with my posts.

Also it shows it as “not following each other” because I blocked them right after sending that then unblocked them for like 1 minute to screenshot what I sent so that I could make it extremely clear to anyone who sees this how I feel about nazis and nazi blogs. I posted that they followed me as proof that I wasn’t just making it up or messaging a random blog. So yeah. Fucking yikes. Feel free to reblog.
