as soon as it hits 80 i break out the gold glitter. sit on the concrete steps outside of venues surrounded by the odd strangers with their odd conversations, but i enjoy it. arrive early just to watch them. the pink clouds at 9pm. overuse rose water as a new healing ritual. burn old pictures. send them down the river. paint my fingernails clambake red because it brings good love and passion - better believe it. summer is for rituals and breaking free. for strangers that you know a little then leave forever. for love in the morning as much as the night, waking up to the same hand moving down your back. that haze. everything is a dream even when it hurts. when you decide to let go it stops feeling real. and you’re okay, and you’re surprised you’re okay.
Earth
by Derek Walcott
Let the day grow on you upward through your feet, the vegetal knuckles,
to your knees of stone, until by evening you are a black tree; feel, with evening,
the swifts thicken your hair, the new moon rising out of your forehead, and the moonlit veins of silver
running from your armpits like rivulets under white leaves. Sleep, as ants
cross over your eyelids. You have never possessed anything as deeply as this.
This is all you have owned from the first outcry through forever;
you can never be dispossessed.
“The press of my foot to the earth springs a hundred affections.”

the smell of the wind, rain, and earth all at once is so overwhelmingly calm and gives me so much serotonin it’s unimaginable

The most effective manifestation altars are made of cheap thrift store knickknacks and dusty old herbs that you found in the back of a gas station convenience store. Not investing any money or effort into any part of your wealth magic is the most powerful way to tell the universe: “This round’s on you, bitch!”
