So this most recent kerfluffle Iâve been in has really solidified a concept Iâve been mulling over for a while, about respect.
The thing is, women are entitled to respect. We are absolutely entitled to it. But the issue at the heart of a lot of sexism and harassment is that men are contemptuous of women. And, being contemptuous of women, theyâre more than happy to blame women for not earning their respectâthe respect that women should simply be accorded by right of being people. This gets men off the hook for their abdication of manners and decency, and once again puts women on trial for deserving their own abuse.Â
We, all of us, all genders of us, we absolutely need to rephrase this conversation.  Women are entitled to respect. They deserve it inherently. We cannot keep grilling women about why they havenât earned it, havenât demanded it loud enough, havenât argued for it eloquently enough, havenât agitated for it long enough, havenât bargained for it nicely enough. Women donât need to be strong, or brave, or loud, or kind, or tough, or powerful. They just need to be women, because women are respectable. There is nothing more or less that they can do to deserve respect other than to be born.Â
When men do not respect women they are delinquent. They are witholding it. They are causing this problem. It is their fault. Do not forget this. Do not let anyone make you.
One U.S. Supreme Court justice referred to Netflix as âNetflick.â Another seemed not to know that HBO is a cable channel. A third appeared to think most software coding could be tossed off in a mere weekend.

THIS ISNT OKAY

Let me guess. Roberts, Thomas, and Scalia.
(via allthewhiskeyinheaven)
Justice Sonia Sotomayor was ranked number one, because she appeared to be familiar with such products as Roku Incâs streaming video device and services that store files on the Internet, such as Apple Incâs iCloud - although she was also the justice responsible for the âNetflickâ comment.
Ranked last, Justice Antonin Scalia was faulted for the HBO remark. Justice Breyer was somewhere in the middle. He was seen as being out of touch for making several references to âphonograph records.â
FROM PATENTS TO PHONES
Other tech cases have prompted similar ribbing.
Some techies chided Justice Anthony Kennedy for suggesting in a software patents case in March that code to implement an idea could be done by âany computer group of people sitting around a coffee shopâ over a weekend.
In another closely watched case, over whether police should be able to search smartphones without warrants, Chief Justice John Roberts alarmed privacy advocates when he sharply questioned a lawyer about her assumption that many people carry more than one cellphone.
"What is your authority for the statement that many people have multiple cellphones on their person?" he asked Judith Mizner, a public defender arguing on behalf of a criminal defendant.
"That was definitely an odd moment," said Orin Kerr, a professor at George Washington Law School.

#THIS MAKES ME ANGRY #people should not be allowed to make or judge policy without even understanding it?? #but the one about casually coding in a coffee shop over the weekend really pisses me off

Ok so you know those sanctimonious kids that go around hounding people about what they do on their own blog, spreading lies to try and ruin the reputation of people they donât like, and writing anyone who transgresses their own personal standard of behavior âtrashâ? We need to stop calling them social justice warriors. They donât actually fight any enemies. They donât even fight out in the open, they donât do anything as honest and straight forward as warring. They just sneakily police their own ingroup via rumormongering and anon sneak attacks and outsourcing harassment to their more gullible friends to try and destroy anyone who isnât behaving just the way these guys want them to behave.Â
Theyâre pretty clearly social justice inquisitors.Â
i forgot that i ponified calories to âdragon ballsâ when i ponified dragon to âbig babyâ so now calories are ponified to âbig baby ballsâ and i donât know what to do
iâm never gonna remember what this post was about
It was about actions having consequences.
technology isnt making people talk less, its allowing people to choose who they want to talk to. i dont want to talk to your âintellectualâ anti-technology ass, i want to talk to like, twelve different people who are vastly more interesting and never have to look up from my phone to acknowledge you

I know nothing about WW2 US army insignias so I copied whatever Steve has to Buckyâs uniform, with the exception of that silver insignia Steve has above his army branch tape. I hope I didnât wreck Leyendeckerâs style.
Thanks for supporting me through this: spacedocks, repulsor, liiiiiiing and schwarzbrot.
