Tonight marks one year since I photographed my first show and decided that music photography was going to be something I'd follow through on. I've always prided myself on being a hard worker, but I've never worked more passionately or pushed myself harder than when it came to documenting music and my life on camera. Since that concert, I've had the opportunity to shoot some of my favorite bands, cover major music festivals, become a photographer for a historic NYC music venue, and meet and re-connect with some of the coolest people because of music photography. So special thank you to everyone who has ever referred me for a photo job, given me photography advice, complimented or shared my work, or reached out to say that what I'm doing is cool. None of that goes unnoticed in my book, and I'm constantly surprised and forever grateful for the support and experiences I've had. Do what ya love, kids. It's absolutely worth it. ✌🏼 TL;DR I shot a Foxing show last year and I haven't stopped since. (at The Bowery Ballroom)

Elaine de Kooning

Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery

Elaine de Kooning was widely known for her contemporary gestural portraits. She was chosen in 1962 to create a portrait of the President for the Truman Library because she worked quickly. She had seven informal sessions with Kennedy in Palm Beach, Florida at the end of December and early January of 1963. She was so moved by Kennedy that over the next 10 months she created hundreds of drawings and 23 paintings of him. The full length painting, above, captures Kennedy’s restless energy and it’s colors evoke a coolness and a detachment not always obvious to his admirers. de Kooning loved the “feeling of the outdoors that he radiated and noted that on the patio, where we often sat, he was enveloped by the green of the leaves and the golden light of the afternoon sun.” After President Kennedy was assassinated, on November 2, 1963, the Artist stopped painting for a year.

the older I get the more I realize the value of privacy, of cultivating your circle and only letting certain people in. You can be open, honest, and real while still understanding not everyone deserves a seat at the table of your life.
