My Thoughts on The latest PvParkour Episode (Finale)
Before I say anything here, I want to make it clear that this is simply me thinking out loud and wanting to hear other people's thoughts! It's not me trying to change any minds or cause some sort of uprising against the content creators or anything, so please be respectful and remember that these are fun videos that we get to watch for free and not something to be taken seriously
This may very well be coming from me being Mavbo coded and being butthurt at their relationship as depicted in this episode
But... something felt very strange about this finale to me.
There are a few things that stood out to me more than anything, but I'd like to talk about them bit by bit, with my biggest issue being the last I'll talk about. So! Imma start here (warning, way longer than I meant it to be lol)
There were a LOT more unexplained/unexplored topics in this episode than usual. It's not abnormal for us to get large amounts of context and worldbuilding thrown at us that we take just as it is, but there were a lot of very big things given to us here and then left without further explanation.
It's casually dropped that here's some limbo dimension that the 'dead' players are being sent to and then this is never addressed again.
The Mace/Ash's entire motivation was his belief that one player should not have as much power as Evbo does across not one, but TWO worlds. This is actually a very interesting point and I can see where this idea comes from. He doesn't know what Parkour!Evbo or PvP!Evbo went through to get to their points. All he knows is that these two worlds are essentially being led by one player, and this causes a large power imbalance. However, this is completely left to the wayside and never really properly addressed. Nothing changes in the status quo. Ash simply rolls over and lets himself die when his mace is about to break. (Furthermore, no unresolved issues from previous series are brought back. PVP!EVBO IS STILL DYING FOR YOUR SINS BY THE WAY)
Furthermore, maybe I misunderstood, but we were also told that he was a player born between dimensions, and it seems as though this was entirely not true, and that he's just some random guy from Parkour Civilization. If that's the case, why does it matter if his mace breaks? He's not connected to it like players from PvP Civ. He should be fully capable of surviving if his weapon breaks, AND he's fully capable of using parkour attacks. It's honestly a bit sad to me that such a fascinating character concept and motivation is thrown aside and ignored to finish the story quicker.
Many of the primary characters get little to no lines of dialogue for some reason? It's strange to see how even Ash, who had an entire villain monologue in the penultimate episode, had only a small handful of lines. The presence he developed in the rest of the series seemed to fall off immediately in favor of defeating him in 5 minutes. We hear almost nothing from the Diamond Swords, Jumper, EMF, or Tabi, and it's just really sad to see.
I also find myself confused by the inclusion of Jumper at all. She was a really fun character and I loved the dynamic she had with Parkour!Evbo, with the both of them just building off of each other's insane ideas, but she really only existed for a concept (experimental parkour) rather than for a character.
This is strange to me because, despite what you may say about the storytelling of these Minecraft Youtubers, ever since Parkour Civ, Evbo has always been good about character arcs, even if they are simpler ones. Seawatt's character from Parkour Civ S2 is one of my favorites, but PvP Civ was FANTASTIC with developing character arcs, especially with PvP!Evbo and Tabi. It's weird that he would go back to introducing characters without any intention on using them outside of a single concept.
Seawatt's motivation for hating Evbo was interesting, but I feel like it also could've been pushed much further. Seawatt, as we've known him in both Parkour and PvP Civs, is a violence first, questions later kind of player, unless he needs to play the long game for whatever his motivation is. The only reason he lets PvP!Evbo go in the original series is because Evbo promised to help defeat the axes that killed the Bows.
It's strange that he immediately forgave Evbo and joined his side as soon as he was shown that Parkour!Evbo didn't kill Parkour!Seawatt. He doesn't seem to care at all that working with Evbo means working with Tabi, who was one of the two people who KILLED the Bows. Why would he flip so completely to the side of the person who wiped out his people?

Evbo has become so good at consistent characterization in his series. You can consistently go into each episode and believe whole-heartedly that the characters you've been introduced to would do the things they're shown doing. Parkour Civ S2 really leaned into this, and PvP Civ just about mastered it. That's why it strikes me as so strange that some of the most prominent characters are strangely mischaracterized?

For a refresher, the entire plotline of Parkour Civ S2 hinges on these facts: Evbo wanted to see what was beyond the border, and EMF goes first to keep Evbo from stopping him from following. Evbo is forced to make a choice between **Helping to destroy the world** or **Risking EMF getting hurt**. He is told that if he does not follow Seawatt's plan of total destruction of Parkour Civilization, that EMF will be hurt or killed.
And most importantly? ***EVBO CHOOSES EMF***
Regardless if you see it as a romantic ship or entirely platonic, that doesn't matter at all in this case. Evbo is loyal enough to his friend that he is willing to let the world burn if it means ensuring his safety. In order for Parkour Civ S2 to make any sense, we have to believe whole-heartedly that their rivalry is second to their loyalty to each other. They may tease and insult each other, but when push comes to shove, they will choose to protect each other every time. Parkour Civ S2 ONLY makes sense with this in mind.
So why is it, that upon seeing what appears to be everyone being murdered in front of him, including EMF, not only does he not bat an eye, but he expresses *joy* that EMF is gone. He's not sad. He's not angry. He's not upset. He looks at the supposed death of the person who he once gave up EVERYTHING for and says "GOOD RIDDENCE".
Simply put? This single line, likely meant to be a joke "Oh he's always calling me arrogant so I'm glad I won't hear that anymore hahaha", not only completely breaks Parkour!Evbo's character, but it completely invalidates Parkour Civ S2. We now have to compare "Willing to destroy the world for this person" and "Is glad when this person dies", and those two facts do not go together at all.
Now, this might be just another case of him joking around. Especially if he knows that EMF is not actually dead. And sure, that very well could be the case, but it rubs me the wrong way that THIS is the first thing he says, to PvP!Evbo who is fully disassociating and PANICKING upon watching everyone die. He doesn't immediately jump into "I don't think they're dead", his first reaction is *relief*. Again, I want it to be clear that I'm looking at this from what we know of canon, and not any fan depiction of these characters.
Speaking of PvP!Evbo, he is... an *interesting* turn of character.
The "untraumatizable character" is a trope I've seen a few times. Particularly I think of characters like Kipo from Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, or Sora from Kingdom Hearts, or even Steven from Steven Universe (before Future). Sometimes, like with Steven, we see the character's trauma come back to hit them once they get older. But at least most of the times, when we see someone so bright and cheerful as Steven suffer from PTSD and traumatic memories, you can see how those traumatic events affect them in the moment even if they bounce back.
I LOVE it when characters are shown to have to fight through their trauma. It's one of my favorite tropes, actually! And it gives such a level of depth to someone who might not have been as deep without this as a storyline.
PvP!Evbo was depicted as one of these "untraumatizable characters". He goes through some SHIT in PvP Civ, especially with the cell arc in S1 and the entire thing with Tabi and Teddy in S2, so I can't blame anyone for wanting to go down this route for him.
What makes me kind of double take this development, though, is how it's inconsistent.
We see him break down when Teddy dies, yes. We see him go through it when Tabi betrays him, also yes. But to be honest, if these two things affected him as much as they did, then he should be showing trauma from other sources as well. I'm not talking about the cell arc, believe it or not. I'm talking about the fact that *Tabi was not the only person who betrayed Evbo*.
Almost every character he interacts with in PvP Civ S1, he takes as his best friend and then they betray him. PrinceZam acts nice to him, and she's the reason he gets thrown in the cell in the first place. Ferre repeatedly killed him right alongside the Iron Swords during that arc.
I forgave this a lot watching the series. I didn't really think about it. And honestly, I love that we see him dealing with Survivor's Guilt with Teddy, but it very quickly turns from a one-time nightmare to a large portion of his character over the course of one episode. He's always been depicted as self-important, overconfident, and a bit egotistical (though not as bad as Parkour!Evbo) and it's strange to see him turn from that into a pit of self-hatred and doubt basically overnight. It's almost like the story leaned away from his canon depiction and more into his fanon depiction, which while I believe could've been done well, with how sudden this heel-turn change was, it feels more out of character instead of a natural progression of character.
Again, upon watching his family die, his reaction is not rage or even really a well-deserved crashout (which he HAS been shown to do! My son murdered every Iron Sword on that level and that's still fantastic to me). Instead, he shuts down, and disassociates completely. While not an impossible reaction, it's strange for *this* to be how he reacts to it instead of how we've been shown in the past that he reacts to traumatic situations (aforementioned crashing out. My boy heard "Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn" and put all of his money on "fight")
I don't hate it by any means! There were a lot of ideas that I felt could've actually been really well done! And I loved a lot of the concepts that were introduced. What makes me sad more than anything else was how much these concepts were dropped, and how these characters that are normally kept very consistent in personality suddenly seemed to change.
I'm sure that this is simply just a one-time thing, and likely caused by some sort of outside issues (considering the early release and lack of voice lines possibly stemming from scheduling conflict), but it was noticeable to me and I'm curious what anyone else thinks about it, or if anyone else thought the same thing. Maybe I'm just nitpicking something that I shouldn't be nitpicking at all. Again, we get to watch these for free and I've had a lot of enjoyment watching them and interacting with the fanbase, and simply being a part of said fanbase! One episode that I didn't enjoy is not gonna suddenly break that for me, and it's not going to make me not want to write or contribute. In the end, it's simply a fun series that's not meant to be taken seriously!

For example the explanation I immediately jumped to when parkourbo was basically just like "oh yeah the parkour champion ion really care about him anymore" was that godhood changed parkourbo on that large of a level, which made sense to me for a little bit,,, because I didn't think about it at all, but that's a very fantheory-esque explanation that I came up with in the moment because, I just wanted it to make sense. But it doesn't really. Like we don't know how long it was between the end of parkour civ 2 and the crossover but it couldn't have been *that* long, and like last time we saw evbo he wasn't that detached from everything to just suddenly not care that his only 2 friends (?) might be dead. Like it was just an idea he had about the limbo area or whatever, he didn't know for 100% that they all just didn't die. Was he *that* confident in his theory?? why????

okay now that I’ve calmed down from the high of it being the final video of PvP and parkour civ. Here’s what I’m going to confess.
I feel like parkourbo should have reacted more to seeing pvpwatt than how he did.
I mean parkourwatt to parkourbo was basically what Tabi is to PvPbo but parkourwatt died. That should have left a huge impact on anyone’s psyche whether they’re a god or not. So the fact that there wasn’t even a hint of sadness or regret or anything when parkourbo saw pvpwatt was not only disappointing but also just sorta confusing.
also I might be remembering wrong but the chorus fruit jump just basically appearing as a solution out of nowhere kinda felt like a cheap exit. The hallucinations of teddy were a nice slightly emotional touch but that was really the only thing that was satisfying. And I feel like if we saw everyone renuiting it would have more of an emotional impact than just the ending scene being Evbo talking alone and finishing it off saying “as long as you can parkour you can do anything”. I mean I guess it sorta correlates with the ending of the other series since Evbo likes to end with one liners but it just wasn’t as impactful as the other ones. I feel like it was rushed kinda. Like at the beginning of the episode the set up was pretty good with pvpbo being in his state of shock but it just went downhill after that. And the fact that the Marc couldn’t be rapiers just makes no sense. It pokes holes in his own logic of the universes. Not to mention that maces actually CAN be repaired in Minecraft. It’s all just sorta meh.
