His future had been laid out for him as far back as Nate could remember. Even if he did have a number of football scholarship offers, he'd ultimately screwed the pooch on taking any of them when he'd called the law on his good-for-nothing father, saddling him with the family construction business. It wasn't that the work was hard, he wasn't doing much of the actual manual labor, but it was still draining and mentally taxing. "I don't have time for college right now. I'm already working a full time job, sometimes 60-70 hours a week. Plus taking care of maintenance on the apartment complexes and whatever else the people living there need to call a landlord for." It hadn't even occurred to him until he said it that way, but a good portion of he buildings he now owned and managed were homes, in some fashion or another. "Maybe I could find a house or an apartment for me and Maddy that's already mine..." The wheels started turning, Nate was doing the math on how much he made plus how much he'd need to make to keep them with lights and water and amenities. Plus baby stuff. His head started hurting. "I love her. I know she doesn't wanna believe it or hear it right now, but I do. And now with... all this... I just wanna give her the best I can, ya know?"
Bastian sighs, feeling the weight of Nate's predicament grow heavy on his own shoulders. But -- he's also quick to offer: "Why don't you hire someone to take care of those mundane events for you?" He sits up straighter, sets aside his beer and looks to him as he provides it as straight as he possibly can. "These burdens you are creating, Nate, there's a solution for. Besides if you don't want to be your father I'm certain starting off a workaholic isn't going to land well in the entire dynamic and scheme of things." Bastian shakes his head for emphasis. "I deal with these situations every day - hiring, firing, what have you -- if you need help delegating and working through the interview process I'm more than happy to help. - Unlike your father who created this...wall, if you will," He even begins speaking with this hands in form of demonstration, as if there is a wall right in front of him, "You've got wide open spaces, my friend. You can make this business your own vision. It's your baby now, yeah? And you've got a literal babe right on the way." His accent is shining clear as day with his sentiments provided. "You can also take online courses -- go for your business major if you so desire, but you mustn't give up on your education, especially when it will help to better your circumstances. -- Trust me." He practically snorts, leaning back in his chair and showing him the view of his office.
"As far as the house is concerned I think that's a smashing idea." he mulls his choices over for a moment then leans forward in his seat once more, resting his elbows atop his desk. "Sam and I -- on a short term loan -- would be more than willing to help secure a down payment for you." It's his money, after all -- but their joint savings. He's sure she'd appreciate the extension, though he will most certainly have to discuss it further with her later.
