having many thoughts about yandere tropes vs obsession that i wish i could put together coherently. but you see. this is my blog where i get stoned and talk about movies; cohesion is not a strong suit here lol
anyways like. with the yandere trope, you as the viewer are meant to empathize with the object of the obsession (usually a guy, sometimes a teenage boy because anime) and that's where the horror lies: this woman is crazy and she loves you! she is out of control because of her emotions.
conversely in obsession, the horror is in nikki (or whatever is possessing her) being out of control because of bear's emotions.

listening to Scream With Me: Horror Films and the Rise of American Feminism (1968-1980) while i work today and so far it's pretty ok
it starts out with discussing Rosemary's Baby and the state of reproductive rights in 1968, and it's a pretty solid analysis but uh... are we gonna touch on the Roman Polanski of it all or
like it's just such A Choice??
