Soulmate
kaz brekker x reader - soulmate
summary/request: âi donât know if this has been done yet, but what about a kaz brekker soulmate au where the first time your soulmate touches you you get a colored mark on your skin. imagine the pining that ensues when kaz canât touch them not only because of his trauma but also because heâs afraid that theyâre not his soulmate. then maybe one day his skin comes into contact with hers by accident, maybe during a heist? o: thank you if you decide to do this!â
warnings: violence, gore, typical six of crows stuff, language
word count: 2.4k
A/N: I loved this prompt so much that I also added in a bit of Kaz x best friend!reader
Maybe it was the nihilist within him, but Kaz hated the colored marks on others' skin, signifying theyâd met their match. It seemed as though everyone within the world was obsessed with touch, desperate to discover who they were destined to be with. Kaz felt alone like a hermit living deep within the woods, disconnected from the world bustling around him.
His whole life heâd run from the idea of gods or Saints, from the concept of destiny. Kaz delicately forged a world around himself where he was his own God, serving and bowing down to only himself. The fact that people were actively attempting to discover their pre-set future was unfathomable. Even Jesper and Inej were fascinated with the idea of their other halves, debating on what color would eventually be splayed upon their skin. Y/N seemed to be rather neutral on the subject. She wasnât obsessed with the idea of finding her perfect match, but her gaze lingering on othersâ colored marks caught Kazâs attention.
Iâd Come For You
kaz brekker x reader - iâd come for you
summary/request: âYOUR X READER MATYR IS LITERALLY MY MOST FAVORITE THING and I absolutely adore the way you write kaz!! May I request a Kaz x fem!reader where they have a relationship and the reader is very ok with Kazâs boundaries and doesnât ask for more if heâs not ready to give it but sheâs needed for a mission, maybe because the people trust her more because she has a trustworthy face etc and Kaz is ofc very against it but when he sees her in action, heâs surprised by how good at she is and even the main crew love her? If not thatâs ok lololâ
warnings: language, mentions of blood, torture, kaz being a bit softer than usual
word count: 2.6k
Among the Dregs it was unsaid, but Kaz was hers and Y/N was his. It was a known fact, engraved in stone. They were attached at the hip constantly, except for when it came to jobs. That was when Y/N was left behind to stay at the Slat, while Kaz ventured out with his Crows.
As difficult as it was, Kaz was vehemently stubborn when it came to separating his work and his personal life. To everyone else, it seemed like an unusual move. Y/N lived at the Slat, just like every other Dreg, with the exception that she did live with Kaz. To Kaz, it was purely logical. Being the Bastard of the Barrel meant little room for mistakes and no room for weakness. And love was purely that - a weakness. Y/N had Kaz wrapped around her finger, forever willing to do her bidding. The boy knew that if someone wanted to bring him to his knees, theyâd go through her. After all, itâs what he would do.

[PART ONE]
September 13th, 2023 - New York City, New York
Eighteen-year-old Audrey Harrington exited New York University with some books and looked around the street. She had just finished up her classes for the day, Journalism. She took out her phone and went through all the notifications when the dark grey pickup truck parked right before her. The window rolled down and twenty-two-year-old Drew Blackmore appeared.
âInside, now,â he demanded, boring his electrifying blue eyes into her light brown ones.
She frowned at his snappy tone but entered the vehicle. She strapped her seatbelt on and turned to him with furrowed brows.
âWhat?â she asked in annoyance.
He rested his hand on the passengerâs seat passing your head as he leaned closer.
âAre you seriously being bitchy right now, huh?â he said, and she remembered what she did last night, âWhere were you? Why didnât you answer my texts or calls?â
âI wasââ
âBusy? Doing what, your assignments, studying, reading your novels?â
âYes,â she answered, though there was a bit of uncertainty in her voice.
He scoffed with a sarcastic chuckle, shaking his head in disbelief.
âThen why was Roland Garcia with you?â
She just stared at him with her big curious eyes.
âWhat?â
âDonât make me ask again, Dre,â he said with a light threatening tone in his voice.
She thinned her lips and sighed softly.
âFine. I wasnât doing all that, I was hanging out with him at his apartment.â
âDoing what?â
âWe were hanging out.â
He rolled his eyes as he shook his head in disbelief.
âCan we please just go?â
He tusked and drove away from the university. The ride was awfully quiet, which made Audrey feel uncomfortable. She wanted to turn on the radio for some music.
âDonât,â he warned, eyes still darted to the road ahead.
She sighed heavily and folded her arms before her chest, turning to the side of the road.
âWhat was that?â he asked.
âWhat was what?â
âWhy did you just sigh heavily?â
âIâm not doing anything, Drew.â
âYou were sighing heavily.â
She rolled her eyes deeply.
âIâm just tired.â
âOf what?â
âClasses.â
âSure about that?â
âWhat else would I be tired of, Drew?â
He paused for a moment, and then said, âMe.â
She pursed her lips, watching as all the trees passed.
âIâm not tired of you,â she sounded, âIâm justâŚtired of everything else.â
He turned to her with a worried look on his face. He didnât say anything after. He just kept driving.
---------
(I skipped some pages)
She rolled the ripped paper into a small pipe and put the edge on the white powder line. She put the other end of the pipe on her left nostril and breathed in sharply, letting the cocaine enter her nose and down her system. She tilted her head and sighed in relief, closing her eyes. Finally, she thought to herself. Roland chuckled at that.
âMy, oh, my, someone hadnât taken her hit in a few,â he commented.
âDrew wouldnât stop grilling me about our hang. And heâs been picking me up from classes these past five days.â
âSorry âbout the leak. Simon canât keep his mouth shut.â
She rolled her eyes at that as she rested on the sofa. While the drugs worked their way into her body, the people at Rolandâs apartment were having loads of fun. They were all having an infinite round of booze and drugs. Some were playing poker, some were dancing, and some were making out. It was the life Audrey had grown accustomed to ever since she turned fifteen. She first met Roland while she was walking down the street, and she saw him dealing drugs in a back alleyway. She approached him, asked how much his drugs were, and bought some from him. It went on like that almost every week and the two became friends. After three months, he decided to introduce his squad to her. She hadnât unglued from him since.
Of course, her friends Jonah Fitch and Reese Abercrombie were pretty much against the newly-formed friendship. He was an adult while she was still a minor at the time, and she was hanging out with such a dangerous crowd. They wanted to get her out of it but to no avail. It went on like that until now. Joe and Reese had shared their concerns with Drew and he had tried to be more aware of Audreyâs surroundings, but she was a troublemaker at heart. She knew how to slip away when people werenât looking.
It wasnât like she decided to become a semi-drug addict for fun. She needed it to let loose, to be at an all-time high, to forget. She couldnât shake off Uncle Morgan most times. He was just there, creeping over her. She could still feel his hands on her legs. She could hear his groans and moans. She could feel his heavy warm breath on her neck. It was terrifying. She couldnât let him haunt her anymore. She needed a way to drown him out of her mind.
Drew had just gotten word from Reese that she was out partying with Roland. He had asked around the streets for his apartment address and after roughing up a couple of his guys, he finally got what he needed. He entered the apartment and observed around. There were a whole lot of people in there and it was damn noisy. Donât the neighbors ever complain about this whole mess?
âYo, yo!â
He turned around to see Roland lifting up both arms to welcome him.
âCountry Club, my man!â he sang.
Drew furrowed his brows, not returning the friendliness. He never really liked it whenever Roland called him âCountry Clubâ, even though he used to go to country clubs on a regular basis.
âPick your poison, homes,â Roland invited as he showed him a glass of bourbon and a shot of tequila.
âIâm looking for Audrey, where is she?â he asked with a deep frown on his face.
Roland laughed.
âOh, câmon, Country Club! Have a little fun! Relax, take a few sips, get somethinâ up your nose!â
âNo, Iâm good. Where is she?â
He didnât like how everybody was drunk and high. Where the hell was Audrey? Was she taking drugs, too? Was she drunk right now? Roland kept talking about all the bottles of booze he had, which pissed Drew off. He finally clenched his hand to the hem of his T-shirt and yanked him forward. Roland immediately stopped talking. He knew that Audrey had an intense boyfriend, but she never mentioned him being protective. Drew was half a head taller than all the men in that apartment. He was perfectly well-built, with his muscles still visible even under that oversized T-shirt he was wearing. He had a very mean glare and an ever-present frown. He also had a buzz cut, which made him look five times more menacing than he normally did with his growing brown hair.
âI donât give a shit about your five-thousand-dollar booze or your janky-ass drugs, shithead,â Drew said threateningly, âI wanna know where my girl is.â
Drew practically jammed the door open and barged in and saw five people lying around in bed. There were three guys who had their hands on two girls, one of them being Audrey. They all jumped up in unison when they heard a loud ruckus. When she saw him there, she felt like her entire body had drained from any and all high. She let in a deep breath and froze in place. She didnât dare move, for fear that he would go all ballistic on everyone there. He had his teeth gritted, his jaw clenched. His hands were clutched on the door frame and the handle, turning his fists white.Â
âEverybody, get out!â he shouted, letting out a thunderous voice.
With that, they all scampered out of the bedroom, and it was just him and Audrey. He closed the door and went over to her.
âHave you lost your mind?â he shouted still.
She thinned her lips and turned away, not knowing how to react to that. He had never screamed at her before. He grabbed her wrist and yanked her off the bed.
âDrew!â
âWeâre fucking leaving!â
âDrew, stop!â
He turned back and gripped her upper arms, shaking her vigorously. She immediately shut her mouth.
âWeâre leaving this shithole and youâre never seeing these people again,â he said with a low and threatening voice, âIf I ever see them around you, if I ever hear you being here again, I will fucking kill them.â
She widened her eyes in shock, intensely gazing at him as she was rooted in place. She didnât dare say another word or let out any discomforting reactions. She just kept still and quiet. Once he was sure she got the message, he grabbed her wrist and dragged her out of the apartment building and to the parking lot. He took out his car keys and unlocked the door, but she stopped in her tracks. He rolled his eyes and turned around, going back to her.
âGet in the truck, Dre,â he commanded.
âN-no,â she stuttered, her voice none above a whisper.
He scoffed as he looked at her in disbelief, repeating, âNo?â
She gulped and shook her head, putting her hands on her chest and looking at him worriedly. He laughed in sarcasm as he started walking around, trying to figure out what was going on with her and why she was being relentless with that party of misfits and drug addicts. He suddenly slammed his big palm on the vehicle, making a thunderous noise echoing through the space. She jumped at that and looked down, taking a step back, but he only went closer to her, towering over her as he tilted his head all the way down to see her small figure.Â
âYou wanna go back to that party? You wanna snort all that coke and smoke pot, getting grabbed around by random guys, getting passed around, huh?âÂ
She just looked straight to his broad chest.Â
âI donât know what the fuck is goinâ on, Dre, but youâre not gettinâ anywhere near that guy and his shitty friends again, do you understand? Do you understand?â he said, and then shouted at the top of his lungs at that last question.
With that, she finally broke away from her fear and wanted to make a run for it, but Drew was fast enough to grab her body and drag her inside the vehicle.
âHey, hey! Whoa!â they heard someone else shouting.
The two stopped their ruckus and turned to Roland who was storming over to them with a deep frown on his face. Drew furrowed his brows and scoffed with a sarcastic chuckle.
âYou think you could just waltz out like you ainât done shit, homie?â
âYou stay the fuck away from my girl, asshole!â
He snorted at that.
âWhat the fuck you talkinâ âbout, Country Club? I donât give a shit about yoâ bitch!â he shouted back.
Drew squinted his eyes and tilted his head.
âWhat did you say?â
âYou made me look like a weak-ass fool up there!â Roland yelled.
Drew just stared at him, thinking on his own as Roland kept going on and on about how he was the big boy on the streets. He couldnât believe that he was her company, of all people. Roland didnât care about Audreyâs health or well-being, which was very obvious, considering he was the one who sold her drugs and brought her to all his drug parties. But he assumed, at the very least, that Roland thought of her as a friend, and that he cared about her at a certain level. How very wrong he was.
With that in mind, Drew plopped Audrey inside the vehicle and locked the door. She wanted to get out, banging on the window as she tried to open it, but it looked like Drew had switched the truckâs lock system from the outside. Drew marched over to Roland.
âOkay, you wanna fight, huh? See whoâs the big man?â Drew challenged.
âYeah, thatâs rightââ
Before Roland could finish his sentence, Drew lunged at him and threw a big punch to his face. Roland immediately fell to the ground and Drew went on top of him, punching him over and over and over again. In no time, blood had spattered around on his skin. It was brutal. Drew was dangerous when he fought. He couldnât stop. He didnât have any self-control.
Audrey, from inside the vehicle, kept screaming for him to stop. It would be a shame if Drew had to go to jail for a drug dealer like him. It wasnât worth all the damage for his future. Drew was doing so well, work-wise. His career had skyrocketed and he was more than financially stable to provide for himself and his entire family. He was basically royalty from his own hard work and tenacity. He would lose everything if the police imprisoned him for assault and battery.
She finally went to the wheel and honked the horn for a long period of time, to wake him up. When Drew finally crash-landed back to reality, he stood up straighter, breathing hard as his chest rose and fell. He turned over to his truck and Audrey stopped. He finally unlocked the door, entered the truck, and started the engine. He placed his hands on the steering wheel and just stared at them blankly. He did it again.
Audrey kept very still and quiet so as to not anger him more. She kept her gaze straightforward to give him the privacy and space that he needed. He turned over to her with furrowed brows. She had her seatbelt strapped and she was seated nicely, keeping her mouth shut, but her tears kept rolling down and she tried very hard not to sob, to not make a sound. He grabbed a napkin he kept in the dashboard right in front of her and wiped the blood off his hands and face. He threw it to the backseat and turned to her, resting his hand on the passenger seat.Â
âDre?â he said softly, his voice none above a whisper, âHey, DreâŚIâm sorryâŚâ
She gulped and just closed her eyes, sniffing very quietly.
âDre, hey, look at meâŚlook at me, baby.â
She kept herself still. He finally clasped his hand to the side of her neck and tilted her face towards him. He looked deep into her eyes. She was drunk and high out of her mind.
âLetâs get you home, yeah?â he whispered, and she nodded.
He finally drove away from the parking lot.Â
She drank up the tall glass of warm water with honey and snacked on a bowl of raisins and a cut-up banana. Drew had prepared the food and drink she needed to sober up quickly. She didnât deserve any of that. She didnât deserve him still taking care of her and serving her what she needed when she had crossed a line. She didnât just get high or drunk with other men groping around her at that party. She lied to him. She turned off her phone. She told him that she needed to rest before waking up in the middle of the night to study. She broke his trust, and for what?Â
âIâm sorry,â she whispered, looking down.Â
He had just cleaned himself up from any remaining blood and sat on that dining table with her. He didnât say a word. She put the fork down gently and turned to him.
âYou donât deserve this,â she continued, âI donât want to do this to you.â
âDo what, Dre?â he asked, still looking at the floor.
âThis isnât the first time I lied to you, DrewâŚâ
âYou think I donât know that?â
âI hang out and party with Roland and his friends four times a week, just to keep me going,â she explained, âEvery time I said I wanted to get some rest at an unreasonable hour of the night, Iâm out with him.â
He kept quiet.
âI donât have a drug or drinking problem, Iâm justâŚI need to keep it away.â
He blinked a few times and thought about it.
âKeep what away?â
She turned back to her bowl and glass and stared at them blankly.
âMorgan.â
He turned to her slowly and furrowed his brows.
âMorgan? Whoâs that?â
âMy uncle. Heâs my momâs older brother.â
âOkayâŚ?â
She thinned her lips and tilted her head up, looking at the ceiling. How was she going to tell him about that? Should she even share that story? She couldnât even think about it let alone tell it.Â
âSomething bad happened to meâŚfrom the moment I turned twelve to around the time I was sixteenâŚâ she started, âSomethingâŚdisturbing.â
He blinked a few times and observed her body language. She was trying so hard to tell him what was going on with her. She kept cracking her knuckles and fiddling with her fingers. She had her legs tightly closed and her dark long hair covering her caramel-colored body.Â
âAnd I justâŚcanât forget about itâŚI keepâŚhaving these flashbacks, so IâŚI try to keep it away as much as possible without the drugs and the drinking, butâŚit just wonât go awayâŚâ
He leaned closer to her as he rested his arms on her chair and the table, searching her face. She kept her eyes closed, trying very hard to keep it together.
âWhat happened?â he asked.Â
âIâŚI donât knowâŚhow to tell youâŚI canâtâŚâ
âSomething bad happened to you when you were twelve to sixteen and it has something to do with this Uncle Morgan guy?â he asked, âOr was he the one who did something to you?â
She kept rubbing on her hands as she placed them on her chest.Â
âHeâŚheâŚhe did something to meâŚâ
He blinked a few times and straightened his sitting position slowly, thinking about it. He had a guess what that guy did. If he was right, from analyzing her body language and how hard it was for her to talk about it, he mustâve sexually abused her. He pursed his lips as he gritted his teeth, his jaw clenched. He looked around her apartment, his feet jumping up and down in an aggressive manner on the floor. He gripped the table and the chair tightly until his fists turned white. That son of a bitchâŚthat sick fucking pig stye, he thought to himself, Iâm going to fucking torture the living shit out of him and Iâm gonna fucking kill him.
âWhere is he now?â he found himself asking.Â
âHeâsâŚheâs in BrooklynâŚâ
He closed his eyes and shook his head in disbelief. The disgusting animal didnât even bother living far away from her.Â
âWhere does he work?â
âHeâsâŚa managerâŚat a boxing club.â
He nodded once.
âHe swings by there every day?â
She nodded.
âWhatâs the name of the boxing club?â
She finally looked into his eyes in worry.
âTell me the name of the boxing club, Dre.â
She just stared. He carefully put all her hair away from her face and placed it behind her ear.
âDo you know how much I love you?â he asked.
She didnât answer.
âI love you so much that Iâd do anything for you, Dre,â he whispered, âI care about you a lot. And I never wanna see you have to struggle for a goddamn thing.â
He held onto her hand gently and intertwined their fingers together as his eyes were locked to hers.
âTell me where he is.â
She gulped and readied herself to answer.
âHe works at East Boxing Gym.â
He nodded and held onto the back of her neck. He rested his forehead on hers and the two closed their eyes. He never knew that she went through something so dark and traumatic. She never shared. No, he never asked.Â
âIâm gonna take care of you, you hear me?â he said, âI promise youâll be okay.â
[Pt. 2 Random page of my fanfic]
The two entered the premises as he slammed the door shut, locking it twice and keeping the key inside the pocket of his pants.
âHe doesnât have the capacity to take care of you, Dre,â he kept saying, âHe doesnât know how to make you feel good the way I do!â
She couldnât believe that he actually thought there was something between JJ and her. She scoffed at that. Unbelievable.
âIs that right?â she challenged.
âWhat, youâre not satisfied with me anymore? Is that it?â
She laughed in sarcasm as she looked around her kitchen. She let out a frustrated sigh. He was way in over his head.
âI canât believe this,â she told herself.
âYou think JJ can give you what you need, Dre, what you deserve?â he challenged as he clasped his hand to her neck and put her on the wall, trapping her there, âYou think he knows how to give you proper head, make you cum so hard you forgot how to behave?â
She just looked at him intensely as he roamed his hand under her skirt, feeling her smooth inner upper thigh. She breathed in slowly when he did that.
âYou think he knows every inch of your skin to make you feel wet?â he whispered on her lips, âYou think he knows how to fuck you right?â
She held onto his wrist to stop his hand from going inside her underwear. He smirked when she did that, already knowing she was wet and she couldnât stay mad at him. Stop being so horny, she reminded herself. But it was too late. Everything he was doing to her made her feel weak. He knew exactly how to make her feel better in the worst way possible. He grabbed her wrists and pulled her arms up, pinning them to the wall above her head. With his free hand, he went inside her underwear and played with her clitoris. She breathed hard in his mouth as he worked his way to her favorite spot. When he did that, she closed her eyes and let out a little moan, knowing she couldnât do anything other than comply. She gripped his hands tightly as he kept restraining her there, arching her back and loosening up. He then kissed her, opening her mouth and putting his tongue in. They breathed hard as she moaned between his lips. He slid her underwear off and she kicked it away. He then grabbed her upper thighs and she jumped as he carried her in his arms, stumbling into her bedroom. They took off each otherâs clothes aggressively and once the two were completely naked, Rafe pushed her down to the bed, making her gasp. He crawled on top of her and kissed her deeper, grinding his groin on her wet middle. She breathed in as she gripped his back, roaming up to his buzz cut.
âGet inside me,â she breathed out.
âYou talkinâ to me or are you thinkinâ about JJ?â
With that, she put him down and went on top of him, grinding her middle on his. He breathed hard as he watched her beautiful angelic body, getting so turned on it hurt.
âWhy does it matter who I think about?â she breathed out, âDo you want this or not?â
He gripped her hips to stop her and looked deep into her eyes.
âAre you really thinkinâ about him?â he breathed out.
She blinked a few times and just stared. He could see from her eyes that she was disappointed in him. She finally went off him and he cursed under his breath.
âWait, Dreââ
âIâm just really sorry you feel that way, Rafe.â
âAre you gaslighting me right now?â
âI donât know, am I?â
With that, he grabbed her body, pinned her front against the wall, and gripped her hair, keeping it away from her face and neck. She gasped when he did that. He put his lips on her ear.
âYouâre gonna be sorry for that,â he whispered.
He then played with her clitoris from behind and she closed her eyes, breathing hard and moaning. She arched her back as he rummaged through her drawers for the box of condoms that they kept there. Once he got one, he ripped it open and slid the latex on himself. He gripped her hair as he pushed himself inside of her deeply, and she let out a louder moan. He then moved her to her table and bent her down there, getting inside her much deeper and picking up the pace. She gripped the table as she screamed in pleasure. He watched her reflection in the mirror. She was too sexy and beautiful he couldnât think straight. He gripped her hips and watched her expression.
âDamn it, Dre. Fuck, youâre beautiful,â he breathed out, âShitâŚshit, fuck.â
He grabbed her wrists and pulled her arms behind her back to restrain her. She balled her hands into tight fists as he put her cheek on the cold table, giving her the most pleasurable dominant sex she loved so much.Â
âDo you like this?â he breathed out.
âYes,â she moaned.
âDo I make you feel good?â
âYes.â
âSay it.â
âYou make me feel so good, Rafe. Donât stop. Donât stop.â
Shit, fuck, youâre hot.Â
âRafeâŚRafeâŚâ she kept moaning his name and he closed his eyes when she did that.
It was music to his ears. He went much harder and faster, pounding inside of her roughly.Â
âRafe, pleaseâŚRafeâŚPleaseâŚâ
âKeep begging, Dre, donât stop.â
âRafeâŚâ
Shit. The two finally came and let out grunts and moans as Rafe gripped the edge of the table. They panted and heaved, out of breath. That was some good rough sex.
After the first round, Rafe went in his way to give her a really good head, making her scream and arch her back as she gripped the bedsheets, trying to keep herself together, but how could she? He was giving her two of the best sex in her life. After they were done, they went to shower together and had another round. The night was absolutely exhausting, but perfect nonetheless.Â
Rafe grazed his thumb to her skin as the two cuddled in bed with their sleep clothes on, enjoying the silence and waiting to get some rest. He wrapped his arms around her tighter from behind as he kissed her cheek softly.Â
âAre you okay?â he whispered.
âIâm perfect.â
âYeah?â he chuckled as he smirked on her ear.
She then turned around to meet his gaze.
âI donât ever think of anyone else, Rafe,â she said, to clear everything out, âI love you and I like you and you turn me on every day. I donât need another man to think about. I just want you.â
He searched her eyes and she gave him a comforting smile.
âYou donât ever have to doubt that, Rafe. Youâre the only man I want.â
That was all he needed to know. She kissed him on the lips and the two finally dozed off.
[Pt. 1 Random page of my fanfic]
Andrea and the Pogues played their cards as they enjoyed their rounds of beer at the bar. Some good old Rock Nâ Roll music was playing in the background and everything was well for them that Sunday night. Of course, they couldnât get too drunk, considering they needed to go back to work the next morning. While Pope was arguing about some mythical treasure hunt with Kie, Sarah and John B were having their alone time on the sofa. And so, it only leaves Andrea with JJ.Â
âWell, Iâm very flattered by that,â he said after she had told him why she was still around, âIâm glad youâre still here. We wouldnât be here right now if it werenât for you. So, thank you, Dre.â
âMy pleasure, Jayj,â she giggled as they clinked their bottles of ice-cold beer.
The front door opened and in came Rafe, Topper, and Kelce. When the Pogues saw those Kooks, they immediately shushed and just watched them go over to Andrea. Rafe slithered his arms around her from behind and kissed her on the head. She chuckled lightly and high-fived Topper.
âWhat are you two doinâ here?â Rafe asked.
âJust hanginâ out, mindinâ our own business,â JJ answered as he looked down at his beer.
âWasnât askinâ you now, was I?â Rafe said.
Andrea just rolled her eyes.
âWhy are you guys here?â she changed the subject.
âWe were headinâ down to a better bar when we saw you here,â Topper answered.
âKnock yourself out.â
Rafe chuckled at that.
âYou tryinâ to get rid of me so you can get comfortable with this Pogue here?âÂ
âIâm just trying to enjoy this very nice leisure time with my friends without you being so mean to them, Rafe. You always make us feel very awkward and uncomfortable.â
âOh. So there is somethinâ goinâ on between the two of you?â he pretended to ask as if he didnât already know that JJ was neck-deep in love with his girlfriend.
JJ just glared at him, his teeth clenched. Andrea turned to him with a look of warning. She didnât want to admit it, but she already knew JJ had a thing for her from Sarah and Kie. She never disclosed it to her boyfriend, but he didnât need anyone telling him something so obvious. It was in JJâs eyes. Every time he talked to her or was just around breathing the same air as her, sparks would fly around in his deadbeat brain.
Suddenly, Topper laughed to break the tension and he patted Andreaâs shoulder.
âJokes. All jokes,â he said as he turned to Sarah and saluted her.
Andrea rolled her eyes at that.Â
âHow about we just go?â Topper offered, turning to Rafe so he would stop being a dick.
In truth, Topper had drastically changed over the years and he had been quite tolerable for the Pogues.
âYou know what? I think Iâll stay and talk to JJ over here about whatever it was heâs talkinâ about with my girlfriend,â Rafe answered with a thin smile, darting his gaze over to him.Â
His arms were still wrapped around Andreaâs body, though she didnât feel comfortable anymore.Â
âWell, if you two boys are gonna hang, then Iâm just gonna go to that better bar with Topper and Kelce,â Andrea suddenly said as she stood up and linked her arm to the two Kooks, âHave fun.â
With that, the three went off as Kelce chuckled and Topper shook his head in disbelief.
âYouâre not seriously leaving your boyfriend with your boy toy, right?â Topper asked as they were entering his vehicle.
Rafe and JJ then turned to each other challengingly.
âWhy canât you just take your dirty scraps and find some other chick thatâs not mine, asshole?â Rafe threatened.
âOh wait, didnât she tell you? Sheâs down to shareââ
Suddenly, Rafe had his fist to JJâs face and the two broke into a fight. The Pogues circled around them as they shouted for the two to stop. How long has it been since they lived together in the Outer Banks? Have they not learned anything? Topper, Kelce, and Andrea reentered the premises in shock when they heard all the ruckus. She couldnât believe that they were still doing this crap.Â
âStop them, now,â she told the guys, and the two swooped in.
Kelce held off Rafe while Topper held off JJ. The two guys kept shouting and cursing at each other. The Kooks went out of the premises when the owner of the bar came out of hiding, entered the vehicle, and drove away quickly.Â
âWhat the hell is wrong with you, Rafe?!â Topper shouted, âHas history taught you nothing?â
âShut up, man. Just shut the fuck up!â Rafe shouted back in anger.Â
Topper huffed a breath as he focused on his driving. Andrea just kept very quiet. After several seconds of discomforting silence, she finally broke.
âDrop me off here.â
Topper turned to her in shock.
âDre, come onââ
âStop here.â
âDreââ
âStop, Topper.â
He finally slowed to a stop at the edge of a random street and she exited the vehicle. Rafe sighed heavily as he rubbed his face. He knew he shouldnât have done what he did. He finally got off as well.
âDude,â Kelce reminded him, but he was already following Andrea.
âHey,â he called out, âHey, hey, wait. Stop.â
He grabbed her upper arm and pulled her to him.Â
âWhat?â she snapped.
âWhat the fuck do you mean, âwhatâ? Are you seriously pissed that I hurt your little fuck toy?âÂ
âOh, my God, Rafe! JJ and I have absolutely nothing going on between us!â she shouted, âDonât you get it? No matter whatâs going on with anybody, what matters is that I donât think of them as anything but friends!â
âSo you do know that JJâs got a thing for you, is that it?â he shouted back, âWhat, you wanted to keep it to yourself so you can secretly flirt around with him without getting caught? Do the other Pogues know about this, too?â
She turned away as she sighed heavily, wondering why it had come to this.
âYou keep telling me that I can trust you, Dre? You canât even talk to me about this!â
âBecause I knew youâd act this way and hurt JJ!â
âSo fucking what?!â
She scoffed as she shook her head in disbelief. She then straightened her stance, realizing just then that Rafe would do anything to anyone without feeling bad about the consequences. He didnât care if he hurt JJ, just as long as heâs got her. Rafe just stared at her.
âIâm going home,â she said, using her usual calm and poised voice, âDonât follow me.â
âDreâŚâ
She walked away from him. He sighed in frustration as he punched the wall next to him, walking around in circles, and rubbing his head. He finally followed her. From the vehicle, Topper and Kelce just watched.
âSoâŚshould we follow âem orâŚ?â Kelce asked.
âI think they need to figure this shit out on their own,â Topper answered as he finally drove away.
Andrea walked the dark empty streets of the Outer Banks without looking back. She then sighed in annoyance and rolled her eyes.
âI told you not to follow me!â she snapped.
âWell too bad, âcause I am!â he snapped back, âAre you seriously gonna walk away from this, huh? Hey, answer me!â
She just kept walking. He let out a sarcastic laugh and finally walked faster. He grabbed her upper arms and whipped her around to him, making her gasp in shock. She shoved him off and tried to get him to let go, but he only yanked her closer and put his lips against hers, kissing her hard. He wrapped his arms around her small body, locking her in place, and she had to hold onto his shoulders to not stumble. They breathed in and she shoved him off again, giving them more space. They breathed hard and looked at each other challengingly.
âGet away from me, you psycho!â she shouted and kept walking.
He just followed all the way to her apartment.
âDo you ever feel like every move is the wrong one? Iâm in a position right now where if I do whatâs good for me, like the smart thing, then I gotta be real hard on⌠someone else. Helping me is gonna hurt someone that I care aboutâŚ. a lot.â
