Since winter break is almost over, I think it's the proper time to start panicking and realize we haven't touched our instruments.

WATCH THE THING.

My icy fingertips brush the smooth surface of my Flute. My feet march in time with the distant and echoing drumbeat. I focus on keeping my breathing even; one breath every four steps. Within my mind I run through the steps and counts one final time. Eight here, five there. I listen to the melodic sound of all eighty pairs of feet stepping at the same time, hearing that synchronized crunch of gravel we all know by heart. The tension and focus in the air is tangible, we must keep our minds and bodies engaged. Our fingers tighten on our instruments. A far away part of my mind keeps track of all the ways this could go wrong, but it’s time to disregard them. This is it. This is our rehearsal in the morning, our incessant practice at night. This is our focus and dedication. This is our pride, our life. This is marching band.

2014 Baritone Section wearing very fashionable “Part Hats”. We keep creating new moves for our section to do during cadences and the new additions this year were: “Bill Nye” , “Party Hats”, “Granny jogging”, and “Caveman”.
