i was in a thrift shop the other day and they were playing the most unsettling variations of normal christmas music, culminating in this rendition of the 12 days of christmas except it was like 12 guys all singing over each other and going “no!” and interrupting the lyrics with random other phrases until they deadass just started singing 5 golden rings to toto’s africa. can anyone confirm that this is a real song and not that i stroked so hard i astral projected into a universe where everything is somehow worse than it is here

Suicide Awareness for Musicians
Let me open with this: Suicide awareness is important for every group, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, occupation, ect.
However, this particular post is going to be about suicide awareness in musicians because that is near to my heart.
The suicide rate of musicians is about three times the national average. There are many different speculations as to why this is the case, and no one is exactly sure. Regardless, be it because of the chemical nature of musicians’ and other “fine arts oriented” brains or because of the competitive field of music, this is a huge problem. Obviously, when someone takes their own life it often times changes the lives of so many people in a negative way. When a band or orchestra or choir kid takes their own life it effects the lives of others in a whole new way.
One of the most common things to describe a band as is a family, and it is one. You have a group of kids who spend unnatural amounts of time together making music, one of the most emotionally bonding things for people. Sometimes they fight and don’t get along. However, after all is said and done, it is the band that they can go to when they need help, support, or love.
Love. Love is present in every band. You might not always be able to see it but it is always there. It is there during every rehearsal, every competition, every performance. It is also there in loss. But in loss, love is a strange thing. When a musician takes their own life, the dynamic of their ensemble is changed forever. Everyday their band mates will walk into class and see their empty chair and wonder, “why”. The director will go to cue them, but they won’t be there. He’ll go home that night and cry, thinking “if only I could have helped” The person who takes their spot will never be happy about moving up a chair. Their section will always feel and sound empty because they lost a member. The band will always sound and feel empty because they lost a family member.
Please, remember the musicians. Please remember the band kids. The orchestra kids. The choir kids. Please remember the musicians.
Thank you.
this needs to spread
i read this the other day and it hit me like a truck and i’m still thinking about it and it’s so important that the musicians are remembered. we all have music families who love and care about us and if any one of us were gone it would never be the same and that is so important
You imagine that without cause there can be no happiness. To me dependence on anything for happiness is utter misery.

Dictatorships and totalitarian states, and belief in the inevitability of this or that result coming to pass are, strange as it may sound, ways of denying the reality of time and the creativeness of the individual.

tabbydragon:
I love that everyone looked at the turkey and asked themselves “who is responsible for this thing?” And then everyone pointed at everyone else.
Takeaways:
1) Turkeys are the syphilis of the bird world, everybody’s blaming them on some other country.
2) It’s like a chicken, but supersized, and it struts, and it occasionally attacks people. Clearly it should be called the American chicken by everyone involved.
It’s NATIVE to the Americas, so yes it absolutely should.
I mean, Ben Franklin wanted it to be our national bird for a reason. :)
That too, yes.
But when you compare it to a chicken, it’s sooooo us.
I love people. Everybody. I love them, I think, as a stamp collector loves his collection. Every story, every incident, every bit of conversation is raw material for me. My love’s not impersonal yet not wholly subjective either. I would like to be everyone, a cripple, a dying man, a whore, and then come back to write about my thoughts, my emotions, as that person. But I am not omniscient. I have to live my life, and it is the only one I’ll ever have.
