Polybasite-Tac’s old name is Antimonpearcite and is one of the four so-called “ruby silvers”. Polybasite and Pearceite are closely related minerals that form the pearceite-polybasite series. The mineral occurs in hydrothermal deposits formed at low to medium temperatures.
Austinite
CaZnAsO4(OH)
Locality:
Christiana Mine, Kamariza Mines, Agios Konstantinos [St Constantine], Lavrion District Mines, Lavrion District, Attikí Prefecture, Greece
Field of View: 3 mm
Collection and photo Stephan Wolfsried
Austinite is a rare mineral in the oxidation zone of arsenic bearing base metal deposits, where it is found developed on the colloform (pertaining to the rounded, globular texture of mineral formed by colloidal precipitation) surface of limonite or lining small cavities. It is closely associated with adamite and appears to be a later mineral.
Timelapse view of lava moving on the plains near Pu’u O’o, Hawaii. The hill in the distance is called the “Pali”, it is the mark of a large normal fault created by part of the island sliding out towards the sea. Lava cascades over the Pali on its way to the ocean during the eruption. This is substantially sped up from how fast Pahoehoe lava typically flows.
