Ludovico Martinengo came from a noble family of Brescia. On the basis of evidence, proposed by the National gallery, the painting, which was presumed to issue in around 1530, caused to be further researched as the costume is of a later date.  The date ought to be read as MDXXXXVI spread over two lines (i.e. 1546).
