Switcheroo!

The only chance a person has at surviving the taint to is to become a Grey Warden. You consume the blood of a darkspawn, and you either die or come out of it alive but forever bound to the archdemons and the wardens, both things that no one truly understands. Whatever happens, you're lead to an end. 

Riful survives the ritual, becomes one of the youngest wardens in history and climbs their ranks with an unnerving amount of ease and an almost terrifying amount of skill in battle. She strikes fear into the hearts of enemies and comrades alike, sometimes seeming more darkspawn than woman. 

Say what you will, Warden-Commander Riful despite her less appealing tendencies, she carries herself with a certain amount of grace and poise that fit the legendary tales of their organization. She is both the picturesque warden and somehow also a cautionary tale of the darker sides of legends.

He has always had a certain fondness, (perhaps overly zealous) admiration for the Grey Wardens. It's far from uncommon, but most boys and girls tended to grow out of it. Steve Rogers did not. 

Ill-equipped for battle, Steve enlisted in Ferelden's arm anyway, willing to throw his life down to protect his country from the Blight. It gave him purpose, gave him a place, gave him a vehicle to protect those who could not protect themselves. 

When the signal was lit and Loghain abandoned the wardens, Steve did not leave with the rest of the troops, the betrayal induced anger would not allow him to do so. He found the wardens, found their companions, found a place among them unraveling the wrong-doings of their country and putting a stop to the Blight.

Her mythos varies— depending on the region, depending on the day, depending on the person. A witch, an apostate, some zealous admirers of her lore would try to name her as one of Flemmeth’s rogue daughters. 

Truthfully, she is all these things when they suit her and none of them when it benefits her. 

Once an apostate orphan, raised in Denerim’s orphanage Akane was separated from her only family and sold to a wealthy Tevinter merchant— not a mage, but one who deeply wished to be. He had an obsession with lost arts that he himself did not have the talents or ability to execute— no one is quite sure what these magics really were. Time traveling, manipulation of reality, maybe just your run of the mill blood magic. Whatever he was doing or did, all signs of his work disappeared the day his manor was destroyed in what was likely a research experiment— most who knew her would believe Akane perished along with it all. 

Despite the signs that this woman existed long after the fall of Arlathan, depictions of her exist in ancient texts and arts. When and who she was remains elusive to most, perhaps she’s been so many different people and existed in so many different times it remains elusive to her as well.

At the sound of the woman’s voice, Fenris turns, startled. She…knows him…? Fenris tenses self-consciously and eyes the woman warily.

And then she refers to him as Hawke’s Fenris, and Fenris feels a pulse of nerves.

                                — “I…yes, I suppose I…am Hawke’s Fenris.” Was, anyway.                                     “Who are you…? I can see from your garb that you’re                                     from Thedas…a member of the Inquisition I’ve been                                    hearing so much about, perhaps?” —

"If you do not know who I am, it means Varric has yet to slander my name to you-- in person at the very least."

"Cassandra, formerly a seeker and still a member of the Inquisition I suppose..we have never met but I have..read much about you, or rather what Varric had chosen to write about you."

Aoba has no idea what the hell this woman is talking about, or why her phone is so close to his face. It was a cute enough dog, he guessed, but what it had to do with Tuesdays…? He just didn’t know.

"Uhh… he seems like he just wants people to not get bogged down in their constant weekday drudgery?" he said, having no idea but feeling like this woman might punch him if he didn’t give her an answer.

"But why Tuesday of all days?" Brows furrowed in confusion, she seems hellbent on deciphering why this dog manages to be so appealing to everyone.

"Your interpretation makes sense.. I suppose. But how does such a creation spawn in someone's mind.. and why has it become so widespread on this-- what did Dorian call it..? Interweb? Net?" It's hard to tell if she's angry, disoriented, or both. Likely both.

"Tell me, what is the significance of this dog?

With little grace, she shoves her phone in the stranger's face. A cartoon dog stares back at them, winking knowingly. 

"What does this dog have to do with Tuesdays? Why does he claim they are no problem?"

"You are him..are you not?" She's never met him, never seen him, only read Varric's descriptions of the elf whose skin pulsed with lyrium and an angry sort of sadness. 

"Fenris-- Hawke's Fenris, or rather Hawke's companion." She corrects herself as soon as possible, knowing very well the implications her words could have, especially when she was quickly finding though they all might have known of each other, they didn't necessarily mean that knew each other the way they once had in their own individual realities.

Her question is punctuated by the slamming of books, her collection of 'The Tale of the Champion' gifted to her by Varric, all skewered through the middle with gaping holes. 

"--is true? I never got to ask you-- or rather the you of my world, my time. You disappeared soon after your business with the inquisition had been concluded. But here, in this place, I have time to ask."

"And you have time to answer."

She’s accustomed to opposition, uphill battles and swimmingagainst the tide. Learned to expect it, in some ways enjoyed it—anything worth doing, anything worth having will seldom be easily earned and seldom be earned without a vicious fight.

But what do you do, when opposition to the culmination of your life’s work manifests itself in a person? And when that person happens to be spearheading the culmination of your life’s work?

Well you take to liquor as a means of dulling the anger—but she’s not doing that now, not yet. They’re still at work.

The others have ducked out for the night, some notified her in advance, most just disappeared. Cassandra is left to close up for the night, mostly by herself because she’d rather not dwell on the company because that was the most comfortable arrangement for the both of them.

But the Maker did always like to provide his own (mostly unwanted) guidance when it came to Cassandra and their beloved Herald.

“I hope you aren't under the impression that you may somehow be able to survive that weather.” Cassandra’s tone is stern, she can’t manage indifferent even though she’d like to. She casts the younger girl a withering glance before her gaze drifts over to the ruddy windows—it’s raining, and it’s so cold that it might as well be pouring wet sleet. Getting home at this time of night and in this weather may as well be impossible.

“It would be best we wait, here—I have little interest in attempting to navigate that.” She nods sharply at the window to make her point. “And you should have little interest in pretending you’re even capable of such.”

“We could gamble for cat treats.  Maybe Ser Mittens is hungry.  What do you feed him?”

He shakes his head.  So that’s where the cat came from.

“I think it’s pretty clear that anyone who breaks into people’s houses to leave them presents isn’t thinking in terms of the long run, Seeker.  I bet you like the little guy, at least.”

When the cat was calm like this he didn’t seem so bad.  Something might have been stressing him out, but whatever that might be was a mystery.

"Cat food." She states, flatly. "I do not know what it is exactly, but I would assume things that cats eat."

"He is tolerable at best-- but I am not so heartless as to needlessly hate a creature that has done nothing to me." At that moment the creature in question freezes, as if stunned by some unknown force. He makes some sort of sound akin to wheezing, and Cassandra lurches forward. 

"What is he doing?! Why is he--" Ser Mittens heaves once more, and then coughs up some mess that is half gray matter, half hair, and..? A half disintegrated playing card.

Well, that explained things.

"I dunno what you’re on about, Cassandra. We was all there, in some way or another - beside Solas. But, the old bugger probably finally got done in by one of the Dragons mistaking his egghead for an actual egg. Friggen’ hilarious, that is, innit?"

"What do you mean we were all-- argh, never mind it. Dorian attempted once, to explain all this to me-- magical jargon, strange terminology. It did little but make me feel rather helpless...and also filled me with the urge to throw him into a small space, an armoire or something of the sort. I digress-- but should you need anything in this place, do not hesitate in finding me."

so im like super behind on posts for cass and i just want to apologize! im getting ready to take the lsat next week and its kind of the most important exam of my life so managing replies on both my accounts at once has been difficult!

i currently have replies drafted for

They were alive.

Thank the Maker they were alive, she could hardly believe it. They had only left Adamant, they had only left the Fade with barely their lives. They could thank Stroud for that. Settling down near the fire they had set up at the hill. Vex looked down at the mess of tents and healers, the troops cheering for the simple fact of being alive and the Grey Wardens mingling awkwardly—thankful for the simple fact that they were given a second chance.

"You did well. How are you fairing?" Cassandra came from behind startling Vex slightly and taking a seat right beside her. 

Vex hummed and tilted her head slightly, words still difficult to find. The guilt of leaving Stroud weighing heavy on her skull. Her body felt like it was going to crumble under the weight of it all. "I keep telling myself it will get easier but…" Vex chuckled bitterly. "I don’t think it ever does."

Cassandra nodded, her hand resting atop the Inquisitor’s. “You are right. It will only get worse, but you will manage. You always have.”

Vex nodded and sighed. “At least we’re alive….who would have thought. Thank the Maker.”

"The Maker?" Cassandra said in surprise of Vex’s sudden religious confidence.

Leaning her small frame up and towards the Seeker, the halfling planted one tender kiss along her practically perfect jaw, followed by another further down. She drew away and continued to look forward as if she had done nothing at all, listening to the Seeker’s shaken breaths. "The Maker."
