“Friends of the Lost Halloween,

Big announcement!

We are moving our goal to $30,000 today, with about a week left until The Lost Halloween showcase on October 30th. We’re absolutely astounded by the generosity of the immersive community. With NYC theater on hiatus until at least June 2021, it couldn’t come at a better time.

Every day, we receive new requests for emergency funding. A good number of requests are from immersive performers, but we’ve received just as many from stage managers, stewards, costume and wardrobe, house managers, music directors, and bartenders. An entire industry has been put out of work.

Many of these folks don’t have access to other emergency artist funding and/or are not eligible for SAG-AFTRA or the Actor’s Equity Association. We’ve heard stories about housing insecurity, inability to access necessary health care, months-long unsuccessful attempts to receive unemployment benefits, and getting unemployment checks that aren’t enough to cover rent let alone other basic needs.

What we are doing together to support immersive professionals is such a small act of solidarity in the long run. Yet it’s deeply impactful–moving strings-free cash funds directly to the bank accounts of folks who need it and who have worked to create art that’s meant so much to us. We can’t stop now when there’s so much more we can do!

Please, let’s mobilize together and dig deep. I firmly believe we can reach $30k by October 30th if we do it together. I am so honored to be in community with each of you and so very, very proud of what we’ve already accomplished together.

Please continue to spread the word, follow our auctions and updates on Instagram, and give if you can. I have complete faith that we’ll meet this new goal together and show the beautiful humans behind immersive works that we care and we’re here for them.

Are you concerned that the hotel may not open again? I have been hearing a lot of if’s or when’s but I have just been assuming it will eventually. I know you probably do not know for sure but I was just curious of your opinion. Thank you for keeping on top of all the developments for us and providing gofundme pages when they appear.

I wish I had an answer to this question, but it’s impossible to know. It depends on so many factors, but the primary one, unfortunately, is money. To the people who will make this decision (Emursive, not Punchdrunk) Sleep No More is a business. So the primary question will be if it is financially viable to reopen. This is going to depend on a lot of factors that we just don’t have a clue about.

I hope the hotel will not stay dark. I really really hope we can all check in again soon.

Sad News

As I’m sure some of you have heard, there has been a swath of layoffs at Sleep No More. Cast, crew, and staff are all affected.

Both the Tuesday and Sunday early shows have been cancelled from here forward. However, Gov. Cuomo just shut down Broadway as of tonight, so I’d imagine that SNM will follow.

I thought, in the interest of supporting people we care about, I am going to try and maintain a list of people who are looking for gig work, have started a Go Fund Me page, or are offering to work/be supported in other ways.

So many people don’t have a safety net, and this crisis has come out of the blue.

I’m going to get this list up and running later today. If you know of any specific ways to support the McKittrick family, please let me know and I’ll add it to the list.

Sleep No More is on hiatus.

I expect an official announcement is coming soon. But I had just gotten in line for tonight's show, and the house staff said that tonight's show was cancelled and that they are following Broadway's lead.

Let's keep all of the people that this is going to negatively affect close to our hearts and support them financially where we can. See @readwithjoy 's page
