Last Week Tonight with John Oliver — s07e30
When a TV series comes to a close, if the chosen endgame is to completely wipe the slate clean (writer’s prerogative, no matter how much we as the audience may hate it), there’s more art to it than simply killing some off and doing rushed scenes of how the others lived afterwards. This is a big deal. It should be treated as such.
And the final 6 1/2 minutes of the show “Six Feet Under” is the master class.
From perspective to structure to pacing to song choice, these folks (particularly the writers) nailed it. Watch it. It’s going to leave you with the feels, even if you’re just meeting these characters for the first time.
Context for those who need it: This family owns a mortuary, hence the show title and the gravemarker-esque name/date “cards” that are interspersed. This is Claire - she broke tradition to become a photographer, and now she’s leaving home. If you note people that seem out-of-place in a given moment, such as the man jogging seen in the rearview mirror, these are characters who have already passed away prior. Because this family is always surrounded by the deaths of others, it is more fitting than for most shows that it ends with their deaths, true. But the point remains, if you’re going to kill your darling characters, do it with class and do it in a way that is satisfying and closes the book gracefully.
Since that day in 1996 when we were all impacted by the invasion from outer space, every 4th of July that’s come after, I always think fondly upon the President’s speech that was thankfully captured in HD by some cameras at the airbase that weren’t destroyed. #happy 4th #bbq some wieners #don’t go pokin’ at fireworks that didn’t go off #may something bless America #no really #we’ll take anything at this point #srsly #bless

Even though most of us are stuck at home and can't go out and enjoy art in museums, that doesn't mean that life is boring or uncultured. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles challenged art fans to post photos of themselves recreating their favorite works of art from the safety of their homes. People responded with a lot of enthusiasm and flooded social media with their unique artistic interpretations.
There’s more, but my faves are...
@seenashwrite Hallmark is at it again.
It’s MARCH. and earlier this morning, someone shared on instagram a post about how Hallmark is going to be hosting a Christmas marathon because of everyone self quarantining/self isolating.
So…how do would you feel if I picked out a title or two and you review them if/when you’ve got the time? I think if they’re gonna show these awful films, we should enjoy ourselves by reading your fantastic breakdowns of said movies. Whaddya say? xD
I will absolutely consider this. Seriously. The writing bug isn’t biting, and I’ve got podcast stuff to do but I’m gonna need breaks from that to keep my sanity intact. So yeah, definitely hit me up with some options (I’ll stick it on this @seenashblog one though) 😂😉

you’re telling me there are people who listen to music and DON’T use it as the soundtrack for the intense cinematic daydream plot they’ve always got playing in the back of their head???
