2/4 beta kids.
Happy Nepeta Day! Here's my revised Rose resprite.
I've been thinking about a kidswap Rose Harley... but respriting other kids is higher on the priority stack...
Edit: God damn it, I screwed up her winter coat sprite. I'll probably fix it later.
Edit 2: Fixed the error.
THE CUNTY MUG
When pe0ple run in circles it’s a very very mad w0rld 0_0
once every year i need to succumb to my need to draw a homestuck character. like a werewolf under the full moon.
Maid of Void
Hey all, sorry for kind of slowing down on the class + aspect stuff. A few things happened such as my fixation sort of died out for a bit, plus the real world got pretty busy for me. However, I had an ask requesting me to do the Maid of Void so figured I would knock it out.
The Maid class to me is the active maintenance / protection class, they are going to use their aspect to protect others or they are going to protect their aspect in some fashion. The active nature of the class comes from the fact they are going to be direct with whatever action they do and tend to be able to do things on their own without needing other characters involved in a big chain reaction to the best of their abilities. The personality traits of the Maid seem to be someone who has some kind of conflict going on which could potentially let other people see them as a bit of a door mat. However, these characters will eventually stand up for themselves and not tolerate being stepped on for too long.
The Void aspect to me is going to be what isn’t known, it is secrecy, things that are hidden, it can be nothing but in the context of Homestuck even ‘nothing’ is something. We are shown that more active void powers involve invisibility where more passive void powers come from being naturally obscured from other people. This comes in the form of contents of Rose’s book being blurred out due to Equius’s (a void player) blood being spilled over important parts of the book.
The Maid of Void is a fairly straight forward class as they are the ones who are going to use the aspect of void to protect themselves or allies, or they are going to do things which protect the aspect of void itself. A Maid of Void could create an invisible barrier that prevents themselves and everyone else in the session from being seen just as much as they could protect information from leaking out by securing it’s status of being ‘unknown’. A Maid of Void is probably the best person to hold important information that is meant to be secretive because they are not going to spill out anything related to it.
There are a lot of ‘small’ things a Maid of Void could do throughout their journey which would feel maid of void-ish. They could write down everything in a journal but use a special invisible ink which only they know the means of how to read through. They could have some grand mission which requires them to make the entire session obscure from any outside forces, with similar stakes to Jade moving planets and John removing the oil.
I think the Maid of Void could also do ‘voidy’ things to opposing forces in the same way Aradia did ‘time’ things to Jack. What better way to get rid of a threat than to remove it from existence? It maintains the aspect of void and can be used to protect the Maid and their allies. Making someone disappear is pretty much their main offensive strategy afterall.
Blood Aspect & Its Meanings
The Blood Aspect is probably one of the least explored aspects in Homestuck with the aspect of Doom probably being the number one spot. A lot of people associate the Blood aspect with bonds and relationships, however I think it's a little bit more than just that. Blood is an aspect of unity, organization, staying on track/goal oriented, and it's coordination. It's not exactly the opposite of Breath, but rather it goes hand in hand with it. Breath is about independence and shifting direction. It doesn't really have anything within that aspect that seems to hint at it being against bonds. Blood is the aspect of unity and organization, where Breath is the aspect of direction and change. That's the basic jist of how I see it at least. Maybe it'll be easier to explain if I do some blood based classpects.
I saw your tag on the post about Karkat "and that's why Karkat is a KNIGHT of blood", what's your analysis of Knights? Why do you think it he is a Knight (or important for him to be one)? No pressure to answer, I know you are generally busy. Thank you and have a good day!
Knights are there to both signal and, more importantly, make up for a deficit in an Aspect in any given session.
Dave is a Knight of Time, and the Beta Kid session lacked Time that he had to scramble to make up for. Karkat is the same with the lack of Blood in the Beta Troll session. The Beta Trolls undoubtedly care about each other, but they were raised in a system that's actively hostile towards the formation of genuine, grounded emotional connections with other people.
sick of mean people only being THIEVES or PRINCES or something. HEIRS CAN BE MEAN TOO!!!! give me an heir of doom that is only comforted by the inevitable, so wrapped up in his downfall he cannot give a single glance to his teammates. give me a maid of hope that is SELFISH in her sense of hope and creates/leaves hope only for herself!! a sylph of rage who only knows how to heal through constant yelling, or creates nothing but trouble and impulsiveness for her team!!!
ANY classpect can be mean guys!!!!! you just have to be creative with it!!!!!
My own personal headcanons
Mage of Time
The Mage of Time is honestly a super easy and fun to explain class + aspect combo for me. They are the character who understands time through experience of time. The best way to explain this is probably a character that just goes through time loops and has to 'fix' the shit wrong with them on their own. I think the main character of Steins Gate and the main character of ReZero (note ive only watched like 10 episodes of the show) make for great examples of this as I think a character going through time loops and having to 'solve' them or solve the problem of them are fantastic examples for a Mage of Time. Theres not a massive class + aspect thing for this as it's pretty simple. However I think I'll go into it more whenever I get around to the Seer of Time because thats about multiple timelines and timeloops but on crack.
Added some more as I was thinking of even more characters.
I started filling out the thing I made a bit ago because I thought it was fun. I was mostly looking at old discussions I had within the past month about various characters as well as just looking at figurines and posters in my room and just staring at them thinking "huh" I don't do gender classes because I don't like them Also some characters feel like they could fit in multiple spots. I'll probably add more of these over time. I don't want to force a character in a spot /just/ to fill a spot. I want to authentically put a character in the spot which I feel like does a good job at being what I theorize as the class + aspect.
I was bored at work today and I made these class/aspect chart things. Maybe I'll fill it up with a bunch of characters that I feel like have some sort of rep in their respective class + aspect.
Heir of Space
Despite the Heir being the class of one of the main characters of Homestuck, there really isn't anything super concrete on what the Heir's role actually is. There are two other heir's but their contributions to the story are rather minimal, so it's difficult to do deep dives into their characters. There are some people which think it's the passive change/manipulation class and there are some people (like myself) who see it as the passive protection and maintenance class.
The Heir is going to be someone who receives protection and is made sure that whatever aspect they represent is something which is maintained onto them. This comes in the form of protection, but it also comes in the form of keeping the Heir on track with their aspect. Passive classes aren't just on the receiving end of their aspect though, as they also will do things which help matain their aspect of other members in the group or their session. The Heir will run into the challenge of 'were they guided and maintained enough to where they are now able to return the favor to the aspect'. I also think a Heir's personality is going to be one that is willing to accept assistance as well as provide it, they are team players at their heart, though they may not always be the best examples of socially desirable people (cough Equius cough). I also think the more the Heir was guided and protected by their aspect, the larger challenge they are going to have in order to maintain it in return. It's not exactly a situation where the Heir is protected by one thing in particular and then has to return the favor to that thing in particular. It's just the give and returns are all going to have some connection to their aspect.
The Space aspect is a largely explored aspect within Homestuck with it's core things about it being creation itself including that of life creative processes, and of course the actual physical matter which is 'space'.
An Heir of Space is going to be someone who protected and maintained by the aspect of space, with the space aspect either being used in maintaining and protecting others or the Heir doing something to maintain and protect the space aspect. Other players as well as other components of the session that happen through cause and effect are going to help out the Space player. The Space player may not be fully component with their aspect, but they are going to grow over time the more they familiarize themselves with the aspect.
Imagine the Heir of Space is given a magical paintbrush somewhere in the story. This could be from another character or something they just happen to find out in the open. The Heir is able to make drawings come to life and these drawings which are literal representations of the creative and life components of space could be used to protect and maintain the Heir. The Heir's creative capabilities are there, but they need to really think on some of the ways they can draw things. They could get suggestions from others or come across blueprints of things to draw and manifest in the world.
This magical paintbrush wielding Heir now has gotten pretty far with their magical paintbrush, but let's shake things up a bit and say that all the planets that they and everyone in the session is are crumbling apart and about to break out. The Heir is now the one who has the ability to fix it. The power to create and bring things to life in order to maintain themselves is now being turned around on them. They need to protect and maintain the space or else some terrible stuff is going to happen. The Heir may get some guidance on what to do in order to fix up the Space, but they are ultimately the one who is in charge of it. This could be something kind of cryptid like John's quest of 'removing the oil from the planet to clear the glitches out of the universe', something along the lines of 'you must paint the canvas of the world'.
You could probably swap out a paint brush with a lot of things. It could be a portal gun for instance, with the Heir of Space being all about the physics of space and having portals be utilized in ways that help them through their journey. The return of that though would be needing to do something grand like summoning a portal that the size of a star could go through or something insane like that.
Straw Hat Classpects So Far
Been thinking of going through some other fandoms and looking at the characters from the lenses of the 14 classes and 12 aspects. I wanted to start off with One Piece because I love that series and think some characters demonstrate some attributes which are aspect or class related. Obviously, these characters were not built around classes and aspects from a property which didn't even exist until after 11 years of it's creation, this is mostly a fun little thought exercise for me. I also hate the idea of gendered classes so I'm just going to fully disregard that and have you imagine Zoro in a maid outfit :3 This is what I have so far, I'm basing this more of characters interactions and how they interact with the world. Some characters are giving me a bit more trouble due to them having interactions which either align too much with multiple classes or none at all. I'll probably look them over some more to see what I think of them. I'm certain of the ones I have listed though Monkey D Luffy - Heir of Breath Zoro - Maid of Blood Usopp - Page of Space Sanji - Knight of Void Nami - Chopper - Witch of Life Robin - Mage of Light Franky - Brooke - Jimbei -
I'll dive into each one over the next few days because I think it's fun :3
The Page of Rage.
The Page class is one who starts off not fully attuned to their aspect but over time through some form of guidance (be it positive or negative) they will become useful towards other characters or a task for them with their aspect playing a major part in accomplishing that goal. Aranea had the moment where she utilized Jake's hope powers to cause mayhem in the game over timeline, and Tavros had the instance where he changed the minds of a bunch of ghosts to create help Vriska & Meenah's ghost army. Depending on the character/group they are working with, the Page may be manipulative & exploited to be a utility for a character or just serve as someone who is servicing the other characters and their goals.
Rage exists as the opposite of Hope, an aspect that is all about the actual reality that we are in, doubt and confusion about what isn't certain, it is associated with anger and aggression which shouldn't be too shocking as it is called 'Rage'. To contrast with Hope, it seems to represent more about 'inner demons', the cold hard truths of reality, and physical power as opposed to magical power. The Rage aspect is in an awkward spot, as both characters in HS who are of the rage aspect are both of the destruction class and have an antagonistic role in the story (even if Kurloz's 'role' as an antagonist is very minor). I don't think Rage needs to be tied down to an antagonistic role, however given the negative and aggressive associations with this aspect, it could be easy to lump in a character into that spot.
The Page of Rage is going to start off not being attuned to their aspect. They either will come off oblivious to their aspect try to convince themselves that their aspect is a core part of their character, but it really hasn't gotten to that point yet. Other characters are going to prod the page, either intentionally or unintentionally which will eventually result in the Page being a utility for the characters who prodded them, the group, or for a task/mission/goal. The actual ways they could be used could vary and Page could do something which has an actual 'action', however it only happened after a long time of getting them into the situation where they can be useful.
The actual powers are probably going to involve immense amounts of physical violence and potentially spreading out anger and aggression or other associated feelings the rage aspect has such as the cold hard truth, doubt and confusion towards realities people thought they believed in. This could be as simple as egging on a Page to fight a cult leader who claims they are invincible and showing their followers that they are a false prophet, only for the character that was egging on to take advantage of the chaos left by the Page's action and do some work there.
One example of a Page of Rage could be someone who is trying to be the "next Joker", they are someone who tries to be antagonistc, tries to ruffle feathers with people, and maybe even claims they are going to start a revolution. However, some other characters take wind of the Page of Rage and can see that they have potential in being an actual trouble maker. The Page desires to be some kind of revolutionary clown who is tring to fuck with people, so why not take advantage of that person and make them work for you.
This may be kind of half-assed to not go fully into detail here, but I think a good example of a Page of Rage outside of Homestuck is probably going to be Anakin Skywalker and even Darth Vader to an extent. (Based on the movies alone). If you think about Young Anakin, he was foretold to not exactly be a great person to train, as the council of Jedi saw 'darkness in him'. This darkness of course was exploited by the emperorer who started corrupting him over to the 'dark side'. He did a lot of acts in anger and frustration, which led to the downfall of the Jedi. Even in 4, 5, and 6 he is still a tool working under the emperor who is using him as a tool. Maybe someone who is more of a Star Wars fan can sort of see what I'm getting at with this.
