They were making decent time. If they continued at their current pace, they would be able to meet with Jugo and Suigetsu and complete their latest mission without issue. Which was to be expected; their history was without flaws and he intended to keep it that way.
Sasuke's footsteps paused and he raised an arm to halt his companion, frowning. He knew that sound. One look through a gap in the foliage above them confirmed his suspicions: thunderstorm.
And judging by how quickly the thunder had followed the lightning, the storm was right above them. "--Fuck." Cursing beneath his breath, the male looked at his surroundings quickly, trying to calculate exactly how much further they had to go, determining if they should sprint for it--
Rain fell as if dumped from a bucket, harsh enough to find its way to the forest floor and beginning the onslaught of the storm. "Karin, shelter. Now." He only just finished his sentence before lightning struck a tree nearby. The flames were swallowed by rain quickly enough, but the damage was clear. Sasuke grabbed the red head's arm and pulled her along the ground, darting between trees and urging himself to remember where they could.
"Sasuke--" Karin was cut off by his sudden pull but when she regained herself, she tugged back. "There's nothing for miles. We're best to stay here, the trees are all relatively the same height; it's the safest we'll get."
He looked at her, frowning somewhat. It was clear he doubted her, but he did not voice his thoughts. A nod. He pulled her to the nearest tree, finding footing among the exposed roots and looking at the sky again. It wasn't anywhere near what he would have preferred, and having to spend hours with Karin in this storm--
--his thoughts paused when the forest filled with a horrid groaning sound. Sasuke's grip tightened somewhat around Karin's arm before he realized he was still holding onto her, releasing her and holding his sword in some sense of comfort.
Just where he had been attempting to lead them to, a tree had fallen, kicking up leaves and twigs and allowing for more rain and wind to attack the forest. Perhaps I am lucky to have Karin here.
