if you see one of my threads, & you think you want to join in, just ask me or my partner & we’ll see if everyone’s okay with it. o (◡‿◡✿)

hey, let me pet your cat ---
my name’s kazuya naoki and i’m a newly rebooted fandomless original character formerly based in the naruto series. i should probably say something memorable here but i’m just a regular guy people would reduce to ‘a perpetually exhausted and grumpy cat whisperer with an insatiable sweet tooth’. well --- can’t say they’re entirely wrong.

She nods, studying his reaction carefully // she half expected him to laugh, as many others had in the past but, to her ( pleasant ) surprise, he mere appeared confused. Well, that she could allow him, at least.
At his comment, the knight captain snorts. “ Odd? Well, that’s one of the nicer things I’ve been called in this job, ” she supposed everything about her being in this position was odd. She could live with that. “ Ah, and you imagine my reputation is something enviable within the male dominated barracks? I suppose I should be flattered. They expect me to fail, however. So, it would be easier to take safe bets. ” The majority feared her because she made it so. Her attitude towards them would not change if he turned out to be a waste of time // however, officers of her own level & above still treated her as they always had.
This would change very little
“ The Knight Captains are expected to train whole groups of recruits which you will also partake in, but permitted only one to mentor personally. ” The blond explained, sating his curiosity would only be beneficial for them both // if he knew the whole picture he would understand her intentions were not to use him.
Turning her attention to the courtyard where a small throng of recruits swatted at each other // none compared to what she experienced in her brief altercation with him. “ Many elect to pick from the sons of nobles, occasionally a bastard if they’re feeling charitable & wish to garner favour with a Lord, it’s all very political. ”
Sachiko’s attention returned to him, smile replaced with a somewhat stony gaze. Whatever amusement that had softened her features moments previous was now gone. “ I have no interest in taking safe bets or practising political niceties only to dilute the knighthood with yet more wastes of space, ” hands knotted behind her back she did not break eye contact. “ believe it or not I consider my time & energy precious, I have no intention of wasting it on those who are not wholly worth it. ” despite her reluctance to outright state it, she deemed him & his skill just that.
The smallest of smiles made its way onto her lips // it was a smile that lit up her eyes with something akin to excitement. Determination flooded through her veins. “ Worry less about my reputation, it was never entirely stellar to begin with. Just trust that I am the only person who can train you to your fullest potential, in part, because I am the only one willing, another is that I believe you can do it. ” A pause, wherein she regards him almost cautiously. “ Do you believe I can? ”
Well, at least she’s under the impression that he’s not a waste of space. That’s about the most pleasant thing he could hope to hear from a palace dweller towards someone like him, really. He supposes he could rely on that forthright veracity of hers, if nothing else. Or they could bond over their comparable positions on the sad side of prejudice.
He holds her gaze for as long as she holds his, the smallest of smirks threatening to curve the edges of his mouth as she speaks. With that hard-ass attitude, it’s not all too hard to see how she could achieve her rank despite her physical shortcomings. She’s got his interest – for now.
“I only believe in two things, capt’ — and they’ve been with me for as long as I can remember.” He smiles like he hopes that she doesn’t take it personally but isn’t particularly bothered if she does; he’s not here to kiss ass, cute or not. “But we’re not trying to kill each other right now, so I guess that’s a start, hm?”

did somebody say big kitty toe beans ---
[ @car-kavo // cont. x ]
In the time that Kazuya has been gone, Asa has acquired a new neighbor. She’s older, friendly, and absolutely refuses to mind her own damn business. From the finer details of the divorce down the street to Asa’s own hectic work and personal schedule, the woman seems to have her hands in everything.
Which doesn’t seem all that bad right now. It means he is aware of a familiar intruder hours before he’s even due to head home.
Should he be rushing back to see the man whose spent the past twelve months gone on a mission? Probably. But Kazuya can wait a few more hours. Asa’s had to wait plenty, and oddly enough it has only made him more patient.
He has one more demonstration with a genin group before he’s done for the day. And then he plans to stop by the store and grab dinner. Something tells him he might be too distracted to actually cook up dinner.
So: genin, dinner, and something affectionate but not romantic enough to send Kazuya back into hiding for another twelve months. These are the things he has to accomplish before 6 pm.
“I gave you a key for a reason,” he says later, sliding his shoes off at the door. “If the locks haven’t changed by now, they’re not going to.”
Using the key Asa had given him over a year ago hadn’t occurred to Kazuya, for some reason. Like a bad habit, he’d simply bypassed the idea that nothing has changed to avoid the crippling disappointment he might feel when he discovers yes, everything has changed and the world has moved on without him. Despite the lack of affection in Asa’s greeting ( come on, he’s been gone a year --- ), the fact that Asa’s locks still turn to the keys in Kazuya’s pocket is a greater comfort than he lets on, and his grin takes a softer edge.
“I had time to kill,” he answers instead, shrugging flippantly. “Did you know that breaking in feels a hell lot better than breaking out? Less stressful.”
Not knowing what he’ll do ( what he’s allowed to do ) if he stood to greet Asa at the door, Kazuya simply remains where he’s seated, pale gaze sharp but posture languid to disguise the anxiety in his chest. His eyes trace over the other man’s features and frame, noting how he looks just like he remembers --- perhaps a touch too tired. Selfishly, Kazuya fancies the idea of his absence contributing to that because he’d hate to be the only one suffering from being apart for so long.
“Sorry my mission, uh, took longer than expected. Would’ve brought you souvenirs but I was kinda preoccupied.”
He said nothing. Very sarcastically.

how do you explain to someone that you don’t want to die but existing is just a little too hard for you right now

@itaidoshin:
The Captain is about to nod and send him on his way when his last few remarks catch her off guard. Had she not made it clear that he had already met his mentor? That she was to fill that role?
She had been the one to plead his case, to ask the Knight Commander to give their prisoner a chance to prove himself. Everyone else had thought her mad and so, when he had been permitted to join the recruits she wouldn’t allow anyone but herself to be his mentor. The others would have sabotaged him and, quite frankly, they probably couldn’t keep up with him.
Sachiko cannot stop her lips curving up into a smile once again – a little amused at the situation she had landed herself in. An almost inaudible laugh - which could have been mistaken for a simple huff of breath - slips past her lips without her permission. Shaking her head in a somewhat apologetic gesture to the recruit.
“ Ah, but you have already met her. ”
“....... You?”
His surprise stems less from the irrefutable truth that she is a woman ( truly, he doesn’t discriminate; he’s met females twice as terrifying and half his size in his time on the streets ) and more from the fact that a Knight Captain’s insignia is engraved into her armour. Because --- a base hoodlum plucked out of the outskirts and brought to live within palace grounds? Practically unheard of. A Knight Captain personally training said thug? Downright absurd.
Now, he has no qualms about this arrangement --- but what is this woman thinking? Not only does it spell potential disaster but she’s risking her reputation too. There are so many ways this could go wrong for her; he wasn’t the one left in the dirt wrapped in his own armour on their first meeting, after all. Is she not aware that people like him are not above biting the hand that feeds them?
“You’re odd, lady. Aren’t you --- ” Brows creasing, Kazuya regards her curiously for the second time that day. “ --- concerned about your rep or honour or something equally trite like that?”
What do you mean, they hurt you? Where? How? Show me. Tell me. I’ll rip them to pieces.
