#GiveLoveToday Nomination
Hi All,
I would like to nominate Sevgi and Rabiye Ozdemir for #GiveLoveToday.
Before I met these ladies, I had no-one I could share my interests with, and it was suffocating. I'm the odd one out in my family, and even my friends from school, university and work couldn't understand the depth of my love and passion for books, certain TV shows and movies. Everything I have done in relation to my love of fandoms, I had to be brave and do alone, otherwise I would risk never experiencing them at all. When I was younger, I had to beg to go to a bookshop by myself, because my family would not want to waste their shopping time in one. I have attended movies by myself, navigated the Sydney CBD and discovered my first comic book shop by myself, and attended my first conventions (AHBL and Supanova) all by myself. And for a person who is shy and anxious about going to new places and events all alone, it was a real struggle for me, but I was determined all the same. And meeting like-minded strangers at these events were great to ease some of the suffocation caused by holding in your thoughts and feelings on topics you love, but these events only lasted 2 weekends a year and then it was back to suffocating.
And then I met these 2 sisters through a friend from school, and the more we talked, the more connected I felt. We all had so much in common it was scary. They grew up loving and sharing their passions with one another and other family members, and to be invited into their group, for them to enjoy my company and continue to arrange meet ups and movie nights, and to organise convention schedules together...
I've been friends with them for roughly 3 years now, and the feelings of freedom to share my passions and to learn about theirs, to introduce them to new experiences and experience new things myself; they may be glad to call me friend, but they will never understand how grateful I am to call them the same. If I want to attend Free Comic Book Day, they are happy to attend with me. If I want to check out a movie of a certain genre (mainly sci-fi/fantasy) they are the ones calling me out because they are excited to see it too. If I need help with a GSHWHES task, they are both there to help plan and execute the task, as fellow teammates do. And I never have to feel anxious about attending a convention alone anymore, because they are right there with me planning out our schedule for the days of the con to get the most out of it.
I know this will probably be the lamest excuse for appreciation that you will read, but it really means a lot to me and I would like to show my appreciation in some way. To my knowledge, they don't have a Tumblr account, but their Facebook info is:
