       *    the    click    of    exquisite    italian    leather    along    the    playhouse    floor    is    enough    to    cue    the    arrival    of    the    leading    man    —    admittedly    ,    with    less    theatrics    than    he’d    usually    like    .    moving    with    intention    but    never    miscalculation    ,    the    coat    framing    his    shoulders    comes    off    in    a    frictionless    motion    as    he    approaches    the        production    crew    and    his    fellow    performers    .        ‘    apologies    for    my    appalling    tardiness    ,    times    square    swarmings    spare    no  -  one    with    intentions    of    punctuality    ,    it’d    seem    ,     ’      he    tuts    as    he    makes    easy    work    of    tossing    the    coat    onto    a    nearby    chair    and    undoing    the    first    two    buttons    on    his    shirt    ,    flashing    an    inviting    grin    to    the    crew    that    all    but    melts    away    the    previous    frustrations    aired    by    his    nearly    half  -  hour    delay    on    the    first    real    rehearsal    of    the    show’s    run    .       there’s    a    petite    frame    that    catches    his    attention    ,    turned    away    from    him    and    slightly    𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝    by    the    light    crew’s    changing    frames    ,    but    donnie    figures    her    to    be    his    leading    lady    ,    a    role    kept    secret    due    to    the    magnitude    of    the    show’s    mystique     when   casting    .    directing    his    honeyed    words    to    the    femme    ,    he    closes    the    space    between    them    with    a    few    swaggering    paces    .       '    i    swear    i    try    not    to    make    a    habit    of    such    horrific    dilatoriness    —    hope    you    haven’t    grown    𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞    from    being    left    waiting    too    long    ,    darling    .    ’       the    pet    name    falls    from    his    lips    with    sweetened    intonations    ,    before    his    approach    reveals    enough    of    his    co-star’s    famed    countenance    to    bear    recognition    in    donnie’s    eyes    .  

                   '     chantel    demonté    —    ’     it    comes    out    as    an    affirmation    ,    as    if    to    indicate    to    her    donnie’s    equal    aptitude    for    reverence    of    her    talent    and    propensity    to    sweet    -    talk    any    object    to    catch    his    eye    (    &    chantel    ,    quite    easily    ,    fit    the    bill    to    become    donnie’s    newest    object    of    infatuation    .    )            ‘    needing    short    of    no    introduction    .    i’d    say    i’m    a    rather    large    fan    of    your    work    ,    but    that    bears    the    heinous    implication    that    someone    out    there    𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭  .    ’    there’s    never    a    line    that    leaves    the    males    lips    that    doesn’t    border    on    being    too    saturated    in    his    own    bravado    ,    a    man    so    aware    of    his    own    power    it    begs    the    question    of    his    full    capability    for    danger    .    but    in    his    own    mental    script    ,    donnie    knows    exactly    how    to    tip    the    scales    in    his    balance    ,    and    offers    a    feigned    𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞     of    his    own    natural    charm    .       ‘      don’t    let    me    sweet    talk    your    ear    off    ,    but    you    truly    are    even    more    radiant    in    person    .    i’m    looking    forward    to    our    time    spent    together    ,    𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐥𝐲    —    ’     the    grin    that    takes    to    full    pink    lips    is    too    calculated    for    his    own    good    ,    lingering    several    moments    too    long    as    he    offers    a    beat    of    silence    for    chantel    to    size    him    up    ,    confident    in    the    product    he’s    presenting    to    her    ,      ‘    —    a    sentiment    i’m    sure    you’ll    share    sooner    rather    than    later   .      ’       he    breaks    from    their    𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭    to    allow    the    tech    department    to    size    him    for    a    microphone    rig    ,    arms   stretched     upwards    as    the    technician    measures    the    fit    of    the    waistband    meant    to    situate    his    mic     pack    .      ‘      shall    we    run    lines    first    or    test    vocals    ?    i’ll    leave    the    decision    up    to    the    lady    of     the    hour  .    ’
