fabeing:
“Dora, I adore you, but I think going around and tapping everyone on the shoulder might make me look like a bit of a creep and it’ll definitely get me kicked out.” Fabian laughed, playfully nudging Pandora at her suggestion. “Or you could flap your arms like a chicken and then I’ll definitely be able to find you. It might scare away your date but what’s life without risks?” Even as they were teasing Pandora, though, a sense of relief washed over Fabian, knowing that at least one person who knew them well would be there. If worst came to worst, Fabian would just spend the night looking for her.Â
“Hey, can I ask you something? And you have to promise not to say anything to anyone.” They began, after a brief, quiet moment. “What if - hypothetically - say that you were into someone, but then you weren’t matched with them, and they end up leaving with someone else? Wouldn’t that be a shitty way to end your night?” A pause, “Should I even go?”Â
“That really did sound better in my head. But I suppose you’re right, we must keep up appearances,” she said, somewhat defensively, and paused for a second to think. “Fine. I’ll give you a hint: my mask is gold and has a crown attached. That should narrow it down enough for you to find me. Which you really must do, because I insist on at least one dance.”
“Of course! My lips are sealed, promise,” she said eagerly, pulling an imaginary zipper against her lips closed with her thumb and forefinger. She edged the tiniest bit closer to them in her interest to hear what they would say next. “Ooh,” she squealed. “Well... I suppose it depends. You could end up matching with each other, in which case, it’s sure to be a lovely evening. Does this person know how you hypothetically feel? And do they feel the same way? You absolutely have to tell me more. Though you can’t even entertain the idea of not going at all because we’ve already decided that you’re going to find me and dance with me.”
wormfail:
“Sorry, I-…” he tacked on lamely, more than ready to go into a lengthier spiel of apologies about nothing in particular until he registered what she was saying and promptly bit his lip. And at a good time too, cause Peter was more than likely to apologize for apologizing on and on and on until… well, until forever, if it came down to it, there was everything and nothing that he felt sorry about. All of that didn’t make him any less embarrassed for the state of his affairs though, and were his mother still alive, likely she would be berating his illegible scribbles, he could even imagine her face as she did it, but sadly, that was the extent of that. Classes made him anxious that he wouldn’t get everything down that he needed to know if he didn’t write fast enough, so he wrote like he was running out of time. “I’ll try. I mean, I’d probably like to get at them way before exams, even, but between everything, I just never seem to have the time,” ironic, considering how he had more than enough time to daydream and dissociate as he pleased, but he couldn’t give that up for rewriting his notes. “I’ll definitely get to it though, don’t worry.” He nodded vigorously, excited that he’d impressed her with such a small thing. “Yeah! You gave me a whole bunch, I don’t think I’d ever get around to finishing them off while I’m here. My favorite are the orange ones.”
No, no, I insist! he would’ve said, had she not taken him completely by surprise - shock, even - at the sudden closing of the space between them and the intimacy of close contact. Heck, it wasn’t even close contact, it was skin on skin, enough that he could feel the warmth of her arm on his and, he was sure, she could feel the same, what with the way that he was burning up red hot with sheepishness. “Oh, uh…” Overwhelmed by all of it coming at him all at once: the touching, the questions, the movement, it took a while for Peter to peel it all apart sentence by sentence to figure out what he ought to say next. “I dunno, I guess like… do you really think that they’d get you you “match” like they said they would? I mean, it’s probably not the real real thing, right? And it’ll just be like, who chose the same answers as you and everything. Either way, I don’t think whoever gets me is gonna like me much, I’m thinking I might just skip it… or is that worse somehow?”
She nodded at the tentative plan, not wanting to press the issue of rewriting notes any more than she already had. She knew that would most likely just end up making him nervous, and then he’d never get around to actually doing it. She was just glad at his enthusiasm, even if it was put on just for her, at the orange sticky notes. This garnered a bright smile and a small chuckle. “I have the prettiest pastel orange ones, those are my favorite.”Â
She could feel his reaction to the physical contact, tensing and warming against her. She attributed it more to shock than to genuine discomfort, so she took the opportunity to respond at length as he took a breath and collected himself.
“Hm. I suppose it is rather surface level in that way. But, given the questions, you’d be paired with someone with the same basic interests and personality. Favorite classes and whether they’re outgoing or more private. Things like that. I honestly think we’ll probably end up knowing the person,” she said, matter-of-factly. It was clear she’d thought about this at length. She gasped audibly at the proposition of him not going at all, and swatted his arm lightly. “How can you even consider it? You have to go! At least for a little while. If you can’t stand the person, you can always leave early or stick to a friend. Even if they’re not your soul mate, I don’t think you’ll dislike each other. And, who knows? Maybe it will end up being your soul mate and you’ll have missed the opportunity to meet them. Besides, who could dislike you, Peter?”Â
Halloween
sybilldebate:
Sybill recognized the voice, they were pretty sure they did, but they couldn’t quite place a name to the voice. Their first instinct upon being asked a question was to deny needing the company, not wanting to impose, but…has anybody heard of a lonely fairy princess? Part of a costume was acting and playing the part, and with a mask on, she could at least manage that.
And to be honest, they did need the company.
“Y-yes…I think it would. Parties aren’t my scene, i-it’s not that I don’t like them, it’s that -” Sybill took a deep breath and shook her head. “Nevermind, I don’t want to bore you, so I just hope you’re still interested in accompanying me.”
A brief, comfortable silence passed, maybe because the other student sensed Sybill wasn’t done speaking, just gathering the ability to continue. “And, uh, thank you. For calling my stunning. You’re gorgeous. I mean, your costume, but probably you, too.”
“Is it just nerves?” she asked, ignoring the other’s refrain.“Of course I’m still interested. We haven’t been standing here long enough for you to bore me, and I’d love to help a butterfly out of her cocoon.”Â
She moved towards them and offered her hand with an encouraging smile and a nod towards the doorway. “Thank you, and you’re very welcome. I don’t believe in being shy with compliments. Everyone deserves to be told they’re beautiful. Especially when they’re wearing a gown like that.”
gold / wine / bubble bath
gold: describe what you would call the most perfect meal.
Anything her grandmother cooks for her ever, ideally eaten in a date setting with a beautiful boy, candlelight, a lot of expensive wine, and chocolate mousse for dessert.
wine: what kind of drunk are you (happy/affectionate, angry, sad, fun/wild)? if you don’t drink, what kind do you think you WOULD be?
Pandora has never been drunk, though it isn’t unusual for her to have a glass of wine with dinner at home. However, what kind of drunk she is would entirely depend on the situation and who she’s with. She would mostly just get more honest and forget the poise and manners she’s practiced so much. If she was feeling sad and lonely she would say so, but for the most part she would be really giggly and say anything that came to mind. In most cases, that would probably just be a lot of affectionate confessions and compliments.Â
bubble bath: do you have any routines before bedtime? like skin care, etc. what are they?
She does written homework assignments first at her desk, then showers and gets into her pajamas. She has a pretty rigorous skin care routine, which includes certain products that have beauty charms on them to make them more effective. At some point she makes sure there’s enough food and water out for her cat. If she’s curling her hair she’ll do that and then set out the next day’s outfit on a chair before getting into bed to do any textbook reading. Once she turns out the lights, she spends a good chunk of time scrolling through social media before actually falling asleep.
champagne, lipstick
champagne: what topic could you talk about for hours?
Love, obviously. Pandora can spout every cliche under the sun, as well as her own theories about love and her hopes for the future. Though she considers herself somewhat of an expert– having drowned herself in romance poetry, novels, and movies– she still has so much to learn about the world and herself because she’s shut out all of the negative and difficult things about romance that don’t fit her surface level perspective. Even so, what she thinks she knows is enough to fill days and days of time.Â
lipstick: do you enjoy talking to strangers?
She doesn’t enjoy talking to strangers as much as she considers it a necessity. What brings her joy is being liked, and to be liked, one must know a lot of different people and be amiable to each one of them. The more people she knows, the greater likelihood that someone will like her. There’s not one person currently at Hogwarts she would consider a true stranger.
prongspatrol:
James was pleased that she was receptive to what he was putting out, smiling smugly when she shifted so that their shoulders were grazing each other. “Probably trouble.” He dared to look at her, an eyebrow raised through it wasn’t visible through his mask. This was going to take some adjustment. “All of us running around, free wheeling with nothing stopping it us but a mask?” He let his hand graze her purposefully for a moment before adjusting his jacket and winking at her., feeling himself warm up into this practiced part. “Someone life you? Definitely trouble.”Â
“Ah, that must be it,” she nodded, following his lead and turning her head as he did. “The masks. I’m not usually one for trouble, but tonight, I think I could be.”

moralitiies:
The worst part about announcements like this is that it seemed to bring out a sense of happiness and excitement in people that Severus would rather avoid completely. Whether it was the inane chatter of people talking about what they would wear or who they hoped that they would get the chance to go with, or the rush of emotions that came along with it, it was enough to make him feel like he was suffocating in it. Severus never understood how to go about processing those sort of feelings. He didn’t experience them himself, so to see them brought out in other people tended to bring out the worst in him.
“Oh,” he started, looking over at Pandora and realizing that she was speaking to him. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to… come off so strong. Thought you were somebody else,” he added, feeling awkwardly as she apologized to him. It was one thing to speak his mind and be honest, but Severus wasn’t someone who was rude just for the sake of being rude, and especially now that she was being kind in the face of his response. He raised a brow, before he smiled thinly. “That sounds like an awful outcome. Love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. But I’m sure you’ll learn that in time, though,” he responded with a shrug of his shoulder. “I doubt I’m compatible with anyone in this school, really.”
It puzzled Pandora that the vast majority of the students’ reactions to the masquerade were overwhelmingly negative. Nerves she understood and could relate to, but most of the people she spoke too seemed to hate the idea altogether. Perhaps they were just the more vocal students and perhaps this was expecting too much of the student body, but she had yet to meet someone as perfectly elated as she was. Her endless optimism was telling her that the night would be nothing if not spectacular, and she could see little reason why this might end up being untrue. The concerns regarding the mystery dates could be easily solved, she reasoned, and without that element, it was simply an extravagant ball and an excuse to get dolled up and dance and be happy. She was beginning to sound a bit like a broken record, though, repeating these same reasons to those who weren’t as excited as she was.Â
“No need to apologize,” she shrugged him off, turning her attention to the more pressing topic. Love. It was something she considered herself an expert on, despite never being in an actual relationship before, and the assuredness and condescension in his response caught her slightly offguard. “Do you really believe that?” she asked, sounding almost concerned. “It seems impossible that everyone just....made all of it up. All the art, the music, the poetry. No one would talk about it if it weren’t something. There’s someone for everyone. You just haven’t found your someone yet.”
My soul is baby pink and very expensive
She wasn’t afraid of being left, she was afraid of being forgotten.
my thoughts at 1:13 a.m. (via Ambiguities)
prongspatrol:
“Ah, a punny girl- quite the rarity these days.” He reached past her, brushing her arm as he reached to grab himself a glass of punch. She was receptive to him… That gave him courage and blustered him up to a point where he felt himself grinning. “Why thank you, mystery woman. I thought, what the buck, why not try something a little out there?”Â
He turned so that they were standing next to one another and he followed where her eyes had been, watching the dancers. “So what are your thoughts on the evening? Did you meet your perfect match?”
“Your animal instincts have served you well, I think. I don’t mind the company at all.” Pandora took a sip of the punch he had handed her, watching as he went for his own and smirking at his touch. She hardly ever took the time to be nervous, and tonight was no different.Â
She echoed his movements and turned back towards the crowd, cocking her head as she watched everyone at the center of the room. “I think it’s absolutely spectacular. I’m not sure I have the words to describe it.” Her voice sounded as if caught in the middle of the dream, and she inched towards him in a way that could have been interpreted as accidental, so their shoulders were just touching. The sweetness in her tone turned almost impish at his next question. “Hmm...it’s hard to say. The night isn’t even close to over yet. Who knows what fate has in store for us all?” She paused with a meditative sigh. “What do you think, stranger?”
Sensitive Patch
Unlike the deer mask resting on his face, for this moment James was every inch the predator instead of the prey. He’d been granted a moment of reprieve, away from his date and his brothers. Maybe it was the thought of what had happened in the library, or the fear that James was losing his tenuous grasp on everything that he’d been holding onto for years that prompted him to seek out a girl who could give him that familiar thrill of power.Â
He found her standing alone near the drinks- it was interesting. Most girls who stood on their own exuded a regret of such a fact. This girl stood there matter-of-factly, as if she knew that someone was going to approach her. Well that someone was here. He sidled up to her, pouring a glass of the punch.Â
“Punch?” He extended a glass to her. “You look positively radiant, though I might be biased because we match.” James gestured to their respective hues of gold. “Though you pull it off better.” He added with a wink.
@selwyns
There wasn’t a single moment of her life when Pandora wasn’t fully prepared for someone to fall madly in love with her right then and there. This radiated from her-- she was equally poised and proper as she was warm and approachable. Tonight, in addition to her usual easy confidence, she reveled in the added power and ease that anonymity gave her.Â
She found herself standing alone, as she often did, standing somewhere against a wall, near a table. Her fingers twiddled, however gracefully, at her chest as she stared off at the beauty of the ball, the gowns twirling in the center of the room, masks obscuring people’s identities but not their smiles. It was breathtaking and she took the moment to experience the elegance of it all, instead of dwelling on the fact that she was once again alone.Â
In a moment, the peaceful daze in her eyes turned to joy as someone walked up to her. She accepted the glass with a nod and a smile. “Thank you very much, deer,” she curtsied slightly and tapped the tip of his mask. “You mustn’t be so hard on yourself, though. Your suit is lovely and you’re perfectly charming. And I must say the mask was a bold choice.”
“What do you think?” Greta spun around the hallway where she was meeting Pandora before they entered the ball. Unknowingly, the girl had complimented on another perfectly- Greta was the cold to Pandora’s warmth. How fitting.Â
“Do you think my mystery date will approve?” She asked, quirking an eyebrow. If there was one thing she was concerned about, it was who would be her “perfect match.” Her only solace was that she knew she could rule out Pandora- and hopefully Hestia.Â
@selwyns
“Absolutely ravishing," Pandora answered simply, clutching her chest dramatically. “Really, if I’d known you would outdo me like this, I would’ve tried a bit harder myself. I might as well be a troll.” She pouted, but could only hold it for a moment before her smile betrayed her.Â
“Won’t be able to keep his hands off you,” she grinned, moving closer to her friend and offering her arm. “Shall we, darling?”
