Summer was created as the mascot for the fashion business Birdsong Boutiques. She was created to appeal to people of all genders....men so they could want her and women so they wanted to be her. All in the name of promoting the brand.
With Summer's looks and charm, Birdsong Boutiques reached quite a bit of popularity. People were buying all sorts of clothes so long as Summer was wearing them. It didn't matter what she wore or how she wore it. Anything Summer Songbird related was guaranteed to reach the height of popularity. And Summer very much enjoyed her fame.
However, it was not to last. In 1990, the CEO of the company, Kerry Ennis, was caught embezzling funds from the brand to continue his lavish lifestyle....as well as knowingly hiring sweatshop companies to make his clothes. The police came and arrested him, sentencing him to about 30 years in jail. With that scandal and it coming to light that several Birdsong Boutiques employees were mistreated, soon, no one wanted to associate with Birdsong Boutiques anymore. Sure enough, the company went bankrupt two months later and liquidated its assets. Thus, Summer was put out of a job.
Thankfully, she still had her fame. Humans advocated to save Summer from being shuttered into obscurity, being that she was an innocent bystander in the whole mess and didn't deserve what happened to her. Warner Bros, noticing Summer's popularity, bought the rights to her in 1996, along with Turner Broadcasting.
Summer was then brought back for a few revival projects. It was during one of these projects, a crossover special showcasing Warner Bros' properties, that she met Tawny Tabbycat, a fellow Toon star that had also been taken under Warner Bros. Tawny initially DID NOT like Summer, thinking she was arrogant and spoiled. However, Summer was interested in Tawny and her different attitude compared to other Toons. The songbird slowly began wearing down Tawny's walls with her genuine sweetness and after a while, the two girls became great friends. And a while after that, became much more.
Summer would gladly say that despite the ups and downs of her life, she wouldn't trade it for anything. And with a new revival for her on the horizon and Tawny's support and love, Summer can't wait to see what's in store for her.
However, after years of being told what to do...Summer is struggling with one thing. What does SHE want? She genuinely has no idea what to do with her life now that she's free from being the face of Birdsong Boutiques...and she may just have to find what it truly takes to be her own person.
Being that she was created to appeal to everyone, Summer is exactly that. Many people, when they first see her, assume that Summer is this sexy, seductive vamp that loves to twist and turn people's gears. While she's definitely got the elegance and grace down pat, that is nothing what she's like at all.
While she's definitely flirtatious and persuasive, being that she's easily able to charm the people around her, the truth is that in reality, Summer is literally an absolute sweetheart! There's not a single true mean bone in her body. Sociable, supportive, and thoughtful, Summer doesn't care who people are, what they like, or what they were created to be. She just wants to have fun and be friends. Casual yet deeply affectionate, Summer is rather innocent, with a rose-colored glasses view of the world and the people in it. She honestly believes everyone has good intentions....a major reason she didn't get out while she still could when her boss was being investigated. Not only that, she happens to be loyal to a fault, genuinely believing Kerry Ennis would be cleared of charges because she always remembered him as good to her....not realizing that he was stealing from her too.
She can be rather coy and childlike, especially when it comes to something she wants (often to the point of doing childish gestures and movements, like pouting or stomping her feet). The kicker is that Summer is quite impressionable herself. She believes and is easily impressed by what people say, no matter how absurd it seems. And because she was created and bred to be a bonafide fashionista, she can be rather materialistic and this often gets the better of her. She will buy literally everything and anything without caring about the cost, which is often new accessories and clothes. There's also the fact that she's INCREDIBLY self-absorbed. Not selfish. Self-absorbed. She can get so caught up in her troubles and daily woes, even if they're not that important, that she tends to forget the problems of others around her. Tawny and her friends included.
Another one of her biggest flaws is that she can be INCREDIBLY petty when things aren't going her way, or someone rubs her off wrong. She will also do anything to get the last word over someone, including making digs at whatever she can in the moment. Summer is also quite passive, being that she's too used to letting people dictate things for her. She has literally NO sense of direction for herself and what she wants to do....and she'll soon have to answer who exactly she is when she's not smiling for the camera.
Likes: Her girlfriend Tawny, celebrities, fame, fashion, shopping, spending time with friends, swimming, pools, beaches,
Dislikes: Not knowing what to do with her life, people asking for her opinion (she freezes up), anything reminding her of Birdsong Boutiques, fights with Tawny (or any friends), scandals/controversies, sugary foods, being mistaken as another bird species (she's a SONGBIRD not a parrot dammit!), being watched/observed
Her loving and beautiful girlfriend! Oh, she absolutely ADORES Tawny! There's so many wondrous things to say about her! Her sense of humor, her independence, her love for art....she could go on and on! However, their relationship isn't perfect. Especially because Summer is still incredibly materialistic and often takes things for granted, which genuinely angers Tawny...or she uses Tawny's things without permission.
Her bestie! Much to Tawny's dismay (as Tawny does NOT like Tweety at all due to thinking and projecting onto him that he's fake and manipulative), Tweety and Summer have taken a strong liking to each other due to their similarly appealing personalities and love for fashion. Tweety appreciates Summer's genuineness and kindness and Summer appreciates how Tweety isn't afraid to give it to her straight.
She and Pepe are rather close! Pepe sees a fellow romantic spirit in her and thus, is the first person she goes to when she and Tawny have the occasional fight. Pepe is always there to let her vent for a bit and then pick her right back up with kind words and sound advice. Pepe also likes to take her out on friend dates such as movies, eating out, and cafes.
Since Penelope is Pepe's girlfriend, you'd think these two would be automatic best friends. Unfortunately....that's not the case. Penelope, being more soft-spoken and sophisticated, feels a little intimidated by Summer's more bubbly and outgoing demeanor in comparison to hers. You may be wondering....then why doesn't Penelope have a problem with Lola even though Lola can be MUCH more energetic and out there than Summer is? Well....the thing is that Penelope has known Lola her entire life and Lola always had potential to be like that. Summer is still quite new to her and Penelope hasn't had as much time to adjust.
Lola REALLY likes Summer. Perhaps even more so than Tawny herself (and Lola and Tawny are good friends already). The thing with Summer is that Summer gets Lola's more unserious and boisterous side while Tawny gets Lola's smart and serious side. Summer and Lola have very similar interests and absolutely have gone on shopping sprees together. They can ramble about something for days and not be bored of what the other is saying.
Petunia is another person that really likes Summer. Petunia is probably Summer's third best friend after Tweety and Lola. Being that Petunia is the oldest recurring female of the Looney Tunes, Petunia quickly took the lead in showing Summer the ropes on what being in the Looney Tunes was like. And Summer is DEEPLY appreciative of that. While Lola is her fashion/shopping bestie, Petunia is her smart/science bestie. Sometimes, Summer volunteers to be part of Petunia's experiments.
Probably the most unexpected duo you'll ever find. Daffy, when he's in greedy mode, initially sees Summer as someone very easy to scam and swindle. And he does do that at first. However, seeing how genuinely enthusiastic she is about his supposed "feats" and actual kindness warms him up to her and thus, Daffy takes her under his wing. In greedy mode, he'll eagerly try to "teach" her in how to be "a star" just as great as him (often with chaotic results). In screwball mode, he generally hangs around her when not with Porky and instead of being annoyed, Summer loves his antics.
-Summer isn't the WORST artist there is ever, but she's not that great either. Nor can she sew or do any sort of needleworker. She IS however, an excellent accessory maker.
-Summer has a surprising talent for papercrafting! She's often making all sorts of paper figurines and paper animals.
-Because of her large size, Summer can't fly. To make up for this, Summer has grown to be an EXCELLENT swimmer. She especially really loves swimming sports and graceful/competitive diving. Somehow, she never makes a splash.
-Summer also has a fondness for rhythm gymnastics. However, she is NOT as graceful on land as she is with swimming so she prefers to just watch.
-Summer, being a songbird, has a rather lovely singing voice. However, she prefers not to focus on it all that much because it's simply not that important to her. She'll sing when she HAS to, but generally prefers keeping her singing voice private.
-She has scopophobia, developed from having to pose and be stared at for long periods of time.
