  —–  ONE  COULD  ONLY  imagine  what  could  have  transpired,  had  dain’s  skirmish  with  thranduil’s  elves  continued  beyond  a  mere  few  seconds.  their  losses  had  been  heavy  on  both  sides,  &  thorin  was  loath  to  consider  the  alternative.  nevertheless,  her  words  do  offer  some  level  of  comfort,  regardless  that  she  is  not  one  he  would  considered  a  trusted   ally  just  yet.

It wasn’t unusual for the race of Men to view hobbits as children. After all, hobbits are indeed child sized in comparison, and blame could not be placed upon parents mistaking one for their own offspring from afar. Normally it would not bother him so, for most Men graciously accepted correction, but poor Bilbo had had a very, very long day, full of being talked down to and treated as if he were a mere fauntling despite being guest to King Bard of Dale himself, and he’d reached his limit.

“No!” He called out, as a hand knocked upon his door, “I do not need a nightlight, or a warm bottle of milk, or a blankie, or whatever a lovey is. I am not a child, but a grown hobbit, and I would thank you very much to start treating me as-”

And then he opened the door, fully intending to ream out whatever wannabe-nursemaid had disturbed his rest this time, only to come face to face with the Lady of the House herself.

“-My Lady. Ah.”

seeing the children to bed , sigrun had decided to make her rounds around . checking upon the night staff and the guards to make sure everything would still be running smoothing when she herself departed for bed . with bard still in a meeting , she gathered some tea upon a tray and made her way towards where bilbo had been set up . 

she felt as if they hadn’t had time to themselves very much - usually , bard or the children were with them and sigrun earned to speak with the visiting hobbit . balancing the tray on one hand , she knocked and jumped a bit at this voice and words . 

ah , from his words she sensed her talk with staff about how hobbits weren’t children didn’t stick very well . she held the tray and nodded towards the two cups and teapot . ❝ would you make an exception for some tea , master baggins ? ❞ she grinned at him , nodding towards his solar . ❝ i hope you are up for company ? i fear we haven’t spent much time together . ❞
