Good morning. 🖤
A girl and her dogs. 🐾
I will never understand why women feel the need to try and “one up” other women. For example, I get hit on at my job, by both men and women, a lot. I’m happily in a relationship so I just laugh it off and go about my day. However, another woman that I work with, whenever this happens, feels the need to tell me about the five times she’s been hit on at work in the last decade.
We are like two different models of cars. People who find her attractive, will not find me attractive, and vice versa. It’s just so weird to me that she has justify herself. I don’t understand it.
Comfort in familiarity
No one ever talks about the way you crave times when you were depressed.
The comfort of cold mornings, cigarettes, and coffee.
Dragging yourself to work, but listening to your favorite band on your drive there.
Sleeping late, so you have shorter days.
How there is comfort in familiarity. This new happiness is foreign to me.
So foreign that I crave days in dark, silent, rooms and tear stained pillows.
Long walks alone. The feeling of uknowing and hopelessness. Helplessness.
This new, wanting to get out of bed, motivation, positivity, feels fake. Feels fleeting.
At least the feelings with depression, they stay, linger for long periods at a time. They’re consistent, reliable, and I miss them when they’re gone.
Life Changes
I am a firm believer the making comparisons between past relationships, living situations, financials, etc. are beneficial for personal growth.
This morning as I was paying bills I found myself thinking back to how my life was a short four years ago. I couldn’t afford my shitty one bedroom, $800 apartment. I was choosing between feeding my dogs and myself. Putting gas in my car or buying basic essentials. Spending money on myself was never an option. I was in an unhappy, controlling, toxic, abusive marriage. I was in a crippling amount of credit card debt and honestly thought I would never get out of it. The debt, my shitty marriage, and my living situation.
Today, I paid our $1200 rent. I live in a beautiful house, with a gorgeous backyard, in a wonderful neighborhood. I support us financially so my girlfriend can pursue her nursing degree and I do it easily.
I can afford our utilities, including our $250 air conditioning bill.
I drive a new car that doesn’t break down every other week.
I feed our dogs better food and can still feed myself.
I can buy concert tickets and pay for Air BnB’s so we can take our dogs with us.
I spend $300 every six weeks on my hair. I can get my nails done whenever I want. I get massages twice a month, and see a chiropractor weekly.
I can get tattoos.
I do this without any credit cards. It all comes out of my paycheck.
It is amazing how life changes when you surround yourself with people who want you to succeed. Ashley supported me all through grooming academy and rebuilding my life from the ground up. She met me at my lowest point and we’ve only gone up from there. She’s watched me go from coming home stressed because I had two full haircuts booked the next day, to watching me shrug off having six haircuts on my schedule. She’s been my cheerleader throughout this entire process and I love her for it. It is an amazing thing to love and to be loved back. To have efforts met 50/50. There is no jealousy, ultimatums, overreactions, or stipulations. We support each other and encourage each other to be the best versions of ourselves.
I can honestly say that I am happy here.
LMAO yessss, kate harrison!!!

Depression is a circle
I think one of the shittiest parts of depression is how you can pull yourself out of it, only to be swallowed back up right when you start to feel okay again.
Last month, I had my dreadlocks installed. I started waking up every morning at 5:00a.m. to walk my dogs and do yoga. I spring cleaned our house, consolidated my debt with a personal loan, got a promotion at work, and took an overnight vacation to the beach. Before I knew it, I started to feel normal again. I was motivated, creative, dedicated, healthy.
Now, I haven’t done yoga in a week, haven’t walked my dogs for three days. I don’t want to leave the house and honestly could care less if I lose this promotion, or my job. I just want to sleep. I’m agitated, aggressive, sad, tired, but I don’t know why.
This is the shitty part of depression that no one talks about. One minute, you’re cured. You’ve pulled yourself out of it and moved on with your life, but then it sneaks back up on you again a month later without warning. Without an explanation. Then all your left to do is pull yourself out of it again. Depression is a circle. A vicious, non consistent, circle.
He’s a weird one.
