things we should learn from the stars: 1) you will burn. but this pyre of yours will light an entire galaxy. is it destruction if it’s creation, too? 2) collapse unto yourself. it doesn’t matter. yesterday is light years away and it’s cold can’t touch you now. tomorrow is when you shine. 3) the explosion will shatter your bones and no one will hear a sound. it is alright, stars die quietly, too. but they get up every single time. 4) like stars, burn brighter after you rise. 5) (always rise) 6) the universe is a dark and vast place but there’s always light. find it. if you can’t find it, be that light. 7) make sure that the whole universe knows just how beautiful you are when you decide to survive.

the little fish has followed her nose from the river to the bathhouse, chasing after the warm scent of the street stalls. it is only after she has stuffed herself on all manner of noodles and broths and ham! ham! ham! that she learns a valuable lesson — most people ( the notable exclusion being lisa ) expect MONEY in return for their food. after a frightening dash away from a very angry cook, ponyo finds herself surrounded by an entirely different smell.

it smells — clean!

ponyo wanders toward the scent until she finds a wide, warm tub just waiting for her. she wriggles her small body upward, then PLOPS down into the water below, swimming in happy little circles.

She finds herself falling into routine within the bathhouse-- still nervous, always wary that one mistake could be fatal ( for both herself and those she held dear ; spirit or otherwise ), but no longer feeling quite as helpless as she once had. Kind teacher at her side ( harsh and coarse, but still kind, still forgiving ), Sen has learned her place through Rin’s helping gaze. Purpose drives her steps through the hall, expecting a guest soon, though not quite so soon. Small gasp as she turns to corner to find the tub already occupied. A little girl-- certainly not what she was expecting, but she has learned that looks can be deceiving in this world.
