the night started off kinda silly, we snatched a magic chest with magic items in it from an old pirate shipwreck without fighting the 200 skeletons on board cuz our goblin sorcerer used gravity and just yeeted part of the ship up into the air, taking the captain and the chest up too. we just picked him off and snatched the chest. easy peasy~
after that?? BOSS BATTLE!!!
we were fighting two sphinxes, male and female, and the battle was hard. we weren’t doing a lot of damage and the female was healing what little damage we were getting in. after a long while, we finally got her to low enough health that she knew she was gonna die next turn so she decided to do one final, devastating attack.
before that, slim had gotten knocked unconscious by a flame spell the male one had cast, i think?, so he was just a pile of bones and armor laying on the ground, since usually his bones are held together by magic and when he’s unconscious his joint kinda give out. we had another character out at this point too but !!
who does this bitch target?? SLIM.
for her final attack, she goes up to him and breathes on him, casting disintegrate and just fuckin DUSTS HIM. RIGHT THERE. WOOSH, GONE.
EVERYONE GOES NUTS. I’M STARTING TO CRY CUZ I PUT SO MUCH LOVE AND EFFORT INTO HIM AND REALLY DIDNT WANT TO SEE HIM DIE....
our tobaxi eldritch knight sees this, drops her weapons and launches herself at this sphinx, tearing into her with her claws and teeth in a blind rage, killing her. once she’s dead, the other sphinx disappears, and they both reappear as statues by the locked door at the other side of the room and declares us worthy to continue. then the door opens.
it doesnt really matter much, everyone’s too shocked/distraught to even think of moving, dropping their weapons in their grief of losing Slim. they’re all staring at this pile of dust and armor when the sphinxes speak again, stating that as the victors, they had earned a reward. so they create a small ball of light that floats over to Slim’s remains, whipping up the dust and armor in a whirlwind, magic holding him in place and apparently putting him back together again.
suddenly the back of his armor bursts open to accommodate large white & orange tinted wings, before Slim in his armor clattered to the ground, tho he hit it much harder than he might have before. everyone rushes over to him, checking him to make sure he was alright, our bard is holding him up and close (she’s basically his adopted sister at this point) and our rogue (who is also slim’s possible love interest) lifts the face plate of his helmet to reveal.....
Not a skull like before but a face... and hair!
the spell the sphinxes had cast was Reincarnate, and Slim, though he had died a skeleton, had been reborn as an Aasimar!
he’s still unconscious, so they have to carry him out of the room and to a safe spot in this dungeon to make camp and let him rest. and boi is he not ready for any of this when he wakes up 2 days later.
so our DM just surprised me with some Undertale-esque spells he made/homebrewed SPECIFICALLY for Slim and i M FUCKIN SOBBIN ???
i adore the fact he enjoys undertale as much as me and has helped me so much in making swap!pap into a playable character
im truly #blessed
I think I might... make Hocho like really canon divergent? I feel if I keep him as violent and desensitized as he is, he won't be interacted as much or really make friends...
so I might just make him really distant and quiet when not in his home universe.
