~{This was supposed to be posted in fall but I decided that's to long to wait so here yall go}~
"Felix look! I found this really cool leaf!" You sprinted towards your caregiver. You had found a beautiful small orange leaf and was so excited to show him. He looked down to see you waving it at him like a little flag.
He gently grabbed it from your hands. Giving it a small twirl.
"It's a lovely leaf. Seems autumn is finally here." He stated handing it back to you. He looked up at the trees above. Many shades of greens reds orange and yellows dotted the view. He hardly noticed the change as it didn't matter to him.
To you though, it was everything. You would always make a big pile of leaves and jump in them. No bugs to bother you or getting to hot or cold. It was the perfect time to you.
You started darting around, grabbing as many colorful leaves as you could. Some even had holes and rips in them. You thought they looked cool so they were worth collecting to add to a jumping pile.
Felix noticed it was taking you a little longer to catch up. He was walking at a pace a small human child could manage right? When he looked back at you to see what was keeping you from being at his side, he was surprised to see your arms full of leaves.
"What on earth are you doing kid?" He asked while you struggled trying not to lose any leaves.
"I'm taking these! That way I can make a giant jumping pile from them !" You said enthusiastically as you caught up to him finally.
"You're a goofball. Here set those down. I know a place farther down this trail where we can get more beautiful big leaves than those scrawny little ones." He said gently lifting you suddenly off the ground. You barely had time to let go of the leaves you currently had before Felix took off speeding down the trail you were following.
The world whipped by you in a blur. Within seconds you were set down on the ground. You took a moment to regain your balance.
Once settled, you looked around. Leaves that were 3 times as big as the other ones were scattered all around you. You could hardly see the trail there were so many.
"Woah! These are perfect!" You quickly darted around, grabbing as many leaves as you little hands could. Felix simply watched you. An idea struck him.
"Hey hold up. Let's see how big of a pile we can make. Then I'll throw you into it. How does that sound?"
"Yeah let's do that! I wanna be thrown!" You shouted as you lowered leaves into a pile.
"Alright as you wish kiddo." Felix quickly grabbed as many leaves, piling them up easily. Soon there was a huge leaf pile nearly as big as he was. He seemed pleased with how big the pile was as it seemed safe enough to throw you in.
"Is this big enough (Y/n)?" He asked while you threw in your leaves.
"Woah... it's HUGE!!" Your eyes widened at the sight of the colorful assortment. You could hardly contain your excitement.
"Alright ready for me to throw you? Come here." He grabbed you under your arms and held you from himself.
"Ready?" He slowly started to swing you back and fourth, not that he needed momentum or anything, but to prepare you.
"Yeah! Throw me throw me!" You shouted wiggling around in his hands.
"1.....2.....3!" With a final swing forward, Felix tossed you into the air. You belly flopped right into the pile. Leaves scattered as you quickly sank into the crunchy pile.
Sounds of leaves rustling around and laughter could be heard as you crawled out. You were completely covered. Felix thought you looked hilarious. They were in your shirt ,sleeves and in your hair.
"You're covered kid. You look like tree yourself!" He said dusting you off. You had a big smile plastered on your face.
" can you throw me again? Please please please?!" You asked him with big puppy dog eyes.
"Yeah sure why not. Come here." He snatched you up before you could even register what he said.
"Ready? 1....2....3!" This time you practically cannon balled into the pile, scattering leaves everywhere as you went in.
You crawled back out, but this time you were spitting out leaf bits.
"You know it's not a salad right?" Felix teased.
"Yeah, ack! Didn't want to eat one." You said pulling a stem from your mouth. It took everything in the gentle giant not to laugh at you.
"Have you had enough?" He asked. He crossed his arms and leaned up against a tree with a smirk on his face.
You were pulling leaves from your sleeves and shaking them free from your pants.
"Never seen an autumn themed maraca before." He snickered.
"What ever!" You snapped at him playfully as you shook a leaf free from your hair. He simply laughed at you.
A cold breeze wafted through the area. You shivered for a second but quickly brushed it off. Felix caught that though.
"You good (Y/n)?"
You shook your head yes finally looking up to him.
"Maybe we should get you a jacket, there's probably some stores still open near where we are getting off this trail. We can't have you getting a cold." He said before quickly grabbing your hand. You didn't have time to even react before he gave you a gentle but firm tug in the direction you were both headed.
"Aw do I have to hold your hand? I'm old enough to walk by myself."
"Yes. While you are old enough, you're a little slow. Getting distracted and staying out longer will only lead to issues. For starters you don't have a jacket and the temperature probably is about to drop. We also have to stay on schedule and make it back to the others in time.
Besides the quicker we are off the trail, the quicker I am to getting you some apple cider or pumpkin spice thing that humans like." He gave you a warm encouraging smile.
You thought for a second and agreed with him. Something warm to drink did sound good. With that, you and him were moving once again down the trail.
It didn't take long before you both reach your destination, a small cozy little town. There were houses lined up near the end of the trail with little fences and large trees that dawned colorful leaves of reds golds and browns. Down farther was a little plaza that had a coffee shop and some stores, nothing special. All within walking distance.
"Alright let's get you a jacket. I'll let you pick it put BUT it has to be warm." He said as another cold breeze waded through the area. He quickly picked you up while undoing his cloak. You grabbed onto him to hide from the bitter cold. It didn't help since he himself was cold. But It did make you feel a little better.
He managed to pulled his cloak off with ease and wrapped you in it. It seemed to help fight off the cold a lot.
It didn't take long to get to the store thankfully. He let you down and put his cloak back on.
"Alright come on. The sooner we get you a jacket, the sooner we can get you something to drink." He took your hand into his. It didn't take long to find the kids clothes section in the store. There was an assortment of of fall themed clothes.
Felix found the jackets.
"Let's try on a few and see which one you like best." He said pulling a few off the rack. You followed behind him while brushing your fingers against the jackets as you passed them.
"Pick from one of these. These are most likely to keep you warm." He lowered what he had picked out real quick to your level.
He showed a few jackets. Some were extremely bulky while others had that really scratchy fabric. Others were colors you didn't particularly favor. None of them looked like they would be comfortable though.
"I don't wanna sound rude but is there more I can pick from?" You asked. You twirled your thumbs, hoping he would change the selection. He thought for a moment.
"Hmm. Yeah let's see what else there is. Let me put these back." He quickly put them back and started digging for more thankfully.
"What about these?" He showed you a much better selection. You looked over them and picked out a jacket that wasn't to thick but not to thin. The color was your favorite one as well and the material was just right. It was perfect!
"This one!" You pulled it off his arm and he put the rest back. You tried it on real quick out of curiosity. It was soft to the touch.
"Hey look, it's a perfect fit too." Felix smiled down at you.
"Well now that that's out of the way, let's get going. I'm pretty sure a café is calling your name with a cup of hot (chocolate/apple cider/pumpkin spice)." He said grabbing your hand, pulling you along.
Once it was paid for, you both headed out towards the Cafe. It was still daylight outside, but the sky was covered in gray clouds. It was drizzling just a little bit.
"Good thing I got a jacket huh?" You said holding out your hand to catch the tiny drops, watching them roll off your hand. He nodded his head yes.
While you walked, small puddles formed from the rain. You jumped in a few of them, giggling as you did. When you spotted a particularly big one, you jumped as high as you could. You splashed into the puddle, getting a lot of ice cold water into your shoes.
"Oh cold cold cold!"
"What are you doing?"
"I jumped into the puddle and now I got my socks and shoes wet."
"Oh no, let's hope Demetri gets here soon so we can get those off of you. Can't have you walking around in this weather with wet socks and shoes now can we?"
He picked you up and slung you onto his shoulders with ease. You were used to this, managing to balance yourself, you got comfortable. His hands grabbed your ankles while you rested your arms onto of his head.
The little Cafe was nice. Dim lights and all modern like. Nothing to special though. When he walked in with you, something felt like it was watching you. You brushed it off as your imagination though, to distracted by the sight before you.
"Pick out what you want. Nothing aside from coffee is off limits." He said pulling you down as he leaned against the counter while you browsed. You looked into the glass. A colorful array of pastries and food made your mouth water. From donuts to tarts and cakes to sandwiches and things stuffed with meats you couldn't pronounce.
"Can I have that that and that? With a (favorite drink)? Please?" You asked him. He smiled and shook his head yes.
While Felix ordered your things and struck up a conversation with the cashier, you turned around when you felt something once again watching you. Two yellow eyes caught yours from the window.
It was a little fuzzy black cat! Skinny and definitely underfed. Their fur looked greasy and matted.
"Your a kitty!" You blurted out without thinking.
"Oh that little cat? Poor thing is always hanging around here begging for food. Their owner threw them out and never let it back in. Poor thing was pretty much abandoned. I try my best to feed it but I don't have much money. They're a sweet little cat though." The cashier said with a sad sigh.
"Really? How disgustingly cruel. Can I get one of those please? Add that on to what we got now?" Felix pulled out more money than what was necessary. It was something filled with meat like steak and chicken.
"The rest is a tip for you." It was filled with 100$ bills.
"Uh s-sir your total is only uh 20$." They stuttered in shock.
"Yeah I know. The rest is yours." He pushed it onto the counter.
They grabbed it and quickly took off grabbing your items, fixing up your drink. It didn't take long at all. They handed Felix the goods and thanks him profusely for the generous tip.
With a smile, Felix grabbed your hand and out the door you both went. The little cat never took its eyes off of you as it followed closley behind you to a bench underneath an umbrella outside the Cafe.
"Murrow?" The little cat jumped up as you and Felix sat down. He handed you the bag of food. You quickly dug out the meat thing that he bought and took one small piece from it leaving plenty for the cat to enjoy easily. You placed it next to you so the poor thing could eat.
"Feeding the little kitty are you?" Felix asked. You looked up at him, half expecting him to look upset. But he wasn't. He looked more curious if anything.
"Mhm. They need food more than I do." You replied gently petting the grimmy fur. The cat chowed down on the meaty delight, purring as it did so.
Felix thought for a moment, maybe just feeding the cat wasn't enough? It would bother no one if he brought it back for you to have a companion. Bringing home another pet wouldn't be any issue either, get it a cage for the trip and presto. Many of the guards had their own pets. One more wouldn't bother anyone.
"Would you like to take it back to volterra with us?" He asked.
"Am I allowed to?" You looked up at him curiously.
"Yeah, I mean we have all kinds of animals back at home. From ferrets to horses to koi fish and dogs right? One little cat won't be a big deal so long as we take care of it properly." He replied.
You smiled at the thought of taking the cat back home. Having someone to play with other than the twins would be nice. Specially one who couldn't cheat so easily at hide and seek or tag!
"I wanna take it home! Then I can have a friend to play with and cuddle and dress up!"
"Alright we will take it home. But first I need to run back to the store and get some supplies. Stay here. I'll be back in a minute." He got up, leaving you alone with the little cat.
"Don't worry, you're gonna be spoiled rotten! You can share my bed and I will give you snacks and we can run through the halls together! It'll be a lot of fun!" You gave the cat another pat on the back. They looked up from their meal for a second, almost like they were actually listening to you before diving back in.
"Mreow." They butted their head into your arm, getting a little sauce on it. You didn't mind though.
"Aww your so cute!"
"Yes."
You jumped at the sudden voice that came out of the blue.
"Quite a lovely one you found. Needs a bath but otherwise beautiful coat under all that grime I'm sure. Now then, where is your caregiver little one?"
You recognized the voice. It was uncle Demetri!
"He went to get supplies for my new cat!"
"And leaves you out here by yourself? What an idiot. At least he got you food this time." He said sitting down next to you.
"Mhm and I got a drink!" You showed him excitedly the beverage Felix had gotten you.
"So what did you and him do today?"
"We took a really long walk on this pretty trail and built a giant leaf pile and he threw me in the pile then he got me this jacket!"
"Sounds like you and him had fun. Where did this cat come from?" He asked gesturing to your new friend.
"It's a stray. The owner threw them out so now they're my kitty!"
Demetri gave you a half smile before sitting down next to you.
"Remember, taking care of a new friend family member is a lot of work. Feeding it twice a day, changing the litter box, giving it flea medicine, playing with it, grooming them is more work than you think.
Can you do that (Y/n)?" Felix asked as he came back with bags full of cat supplies and a large bag of cat food and litter on his shoulder.
"Yeah! I can do that!"
"Good." He sat the stuff down before sitting next to you.
The rain started picking up along with the wind. Even with your new jacket, it was still cold. With a shiver, you buried yourself into Felix's side to stay warm.
"Still cold? Here." He threw his cloak around you again. The cold was much easier to handle now. The cat stopped eating its food and started to paw at the cloak as if it were asking for warmth.
You held out your arm, making a little entrance to a small space for the cat to crawl into. The cat happily crawled next to you before circling around before laying down. They stretched out their front little paws with a satisfied huff.
"Seems like your little friend likes you." Felix said.
"Demetri go get the car. It's starting to get colder, (y/n)'s shoes are soaked and it's about to pour rain any minute now."
"Got it."
Demetri quickly left before you could even blink. You scooted the cat closer to you to help keep it warm as well as yourself.
"Brrrrt."
"So, What are you going to name them?" You thought for a moment, you didn't know what you'd name them yet.
"I dunno, I'll wait till we get home to name them! That way I can think of a really really really good name!" You beamed up at him.
Felix smiled and reached his hand down, letting the cat sniff then rub against it. He gave it a quick scritch under their chin before grabbing the scruff.
With one quick motion, they were in a cage along with the treat he had gotten it.
"There. That way you are safe while in the car." He said giving it a pat before closing the door.
A black very well tinted suv rolled up to where you and him were sitting. This must be Demetri.
The trunk opened up. Felix quickly put all the cat stuff in the back before shutting it and opening your door.
Thankfully you were used to him picking you up at random because before you could blink, you were in the car strapped into your car seat along side with the cat.
He quickly removed your wet shoes and socks, tossing them onto the floor. You wiggled your toes, finally free from the cold wet socks. Much better.
He handed you your food before getting in himself.
The car was warm thankfully. You stretched out, doing your best to stifle a yawn at the same time. Felix was keeping an eye on you from the front seat through the mirror on top.
"Getting tired?" Felix asked while reach his cloak back to you. You took it, pulling it over yourself like a blanket. Comfy and cozy underneath the soft material.
"Yeah." You finally let out a yawn.
"We had fun today didn't we? So much you're already sleepy and ready for bed."
"Yeah I had a lot of fun. I liked the leaf pile the most." Your eyes drooped a little bit. Combined with the soft hum of the engine, the cloak and warmth, you were falling asleep.
You did have fun. You played in leaves, nearly ate one in the process. You got a new jacket you like and even hopped in some puddles. Best of all, you found a new friend Felix said you could keep.
