No. no no no no no no no. You have this all backwards. Yes, oppress Woody Allen. Boycott his new works. Convince the studio system to stop rewarding violent men like him and his ilk. But the ART that we already have, the texts that we have that have already made their money. There is SO MUCH we can learn from them. Why is it, that a man like Woody Allen, a satirist of the highest authority, can reflect such a condemning lens on so many aspects of society, including himself, in his comedies like Annie Hall, BUT THEN, in Metropolis (An abhorrent monstrosity of a film) he can’t speak a single sentence on the nature of predatory pedaphillic perversion beyond “We … w we have g-great sex.” Why is every woman in his films so fundamentally deconstructed to either: A) too cynical and depressed because they have been faced with the reality of inevitable death, or B) fantastically whimsical and pure because they are naive of and to cruelness. These are important questions, and they reflect so much on the reality of our contemporary mindsets. Analyzing the ART is so important. It is important to realizing the systemic institutions that subconsciously pervade all of our minds. And Paramount to deconstructing those institutions. So pirate the films if you must. Watch other people review them. Whatever it takes to avoid giving Allen an iota of real support. Yes, I encourage and advocate that. But the art is too indispensable to waste. too indefensible to ignore. and too important to burn.
