one thing I haven't gotten critiqued on yet but that I can see looming on the horizon, is that I really like to have main characters who are non-human and autistic-coded. and I've seen the conversations about how it's not actually all that validating to have "autistic rep" if the character in question is just an alien or a robot or whatever, and I actually do agree with that (for real!), but unfortunately I want to be a creature so so bad, I just really really want to be a creature. or like a little gnome or bug or something. so a good number of my autistic self inserts will just be awful fuck ass creatures and I apologize for that.

the day after I posted this last time I was notified that I was selected for a really cool mentorship gig and got an unrelated glowing review at work

while it may not seem like it to someone scrolling by with a cursory look, what i am creating is not ‘ironic’ nor a ‘get rich quick scheme’ and it is certainly not AI GENERATED. it is a genuine expression of my heart and my beliefs about sexuality and art and love and freedom and curiosity and joy

i was very concerned to hear the skeleton trotting on cover of latest tingler appeared to be AI generated. i am not sure if it really is or not, as the image was purchased from a stock photo website like all of my images, HOWEVER these sites are getting flooded with AI slop just like everything else

could have easily just left it and i think 99 percent of buckaroos would never notice, but this is something i care about a lot. there are authors i will not name that i get tagged with all the time who proudly slop around with their AI, and i will never do that. the soul of these books is not theft

i have updated cover with new stock skeleton who SEEMS to have been rendered by human. as time goes it will be harder to tell but you can trust i will try my best to craft with love and honesty. these is not 'bad covers' or 'ironic content' to me, it is art that i care deeply about. thanks buckaroos

My brother is talking to us about his favorite YouTuber (I didn’t hear the name) and started telling us how the poor guy is being fined by the city for not looking after his rental property where he left the tenants with water damage and flooding for months and @mothman-etd’s face slowly transformed from one of calmly said, “oh, so he’s a landlord.”

And my brother was like, “yeah, and the city is totally being unfair to him! like how is it his fault the house flooded?”

There's an open pit in the middle of our office plan that drops down into a bunch of very sharp spikes that kill you instantly. This is bad. People keep falling in there and dying. Someone put a sign up, the other day, all bright yellow so you can't miss it, that says "Beware!!! Spikes!!!"

The office immediately split into two factions over it. One says that if anyone falls in the spike pit it's their own fault for being so stupid and not watching where they're walking, so we should remove the sign. The other says that the sign is an insult, there shouldn't be a spike pit in our office at all, and having the sign up like that is just normalising the existence of the spike pit, so we should remove the sign.

We ended up removing the sign. Probably for the better. Still... for a while there it looked like it might have worked...

This reminds me of a surreal experience I had in law school, when I learned that my law school had LITERALLY no way to change your name in the system or on your ID. I pointed out that I knew multiple people who had gotten married while in law school, and asked the person at the registrar's office what they did in those cases, and he said that he guessed that they'd just have to not legally change their name while in law school?? I asked him if this was perhaps because the law school had introduced this system back when they still expected to be able to keep women from attending indefinitely, and he got really silent for a bit and then told me that he was busy and I should leave unless I needed something else.

Btw, I've gotten a LOT of traction with conservative folks with this story when I've told it, to the point of some fairly right wing people even agreeing with the much stronger position of "yeah, and why the fuck should you need a court order just to change your name either?" It hits all the right notes of absurdity, and of the government and other institutions intrusively reaching into other people's lives, while also demonstrating that that overreach is a clear attack on people with traditional values too. I always present it as "Now, look, I know it's not as fashionable for a woman to take her husband's name anymore or whatever, but she should at least be able to if she wants to, right?" and I don't even get people trying to argue slippery slope about it, most folks we just jump all the way onto the "preferred names are an issue of freedom" train.

Which is all to say that yeah, your mom should absolutely go to the news about this.

I'm gonna put my mom hat on and remind everyone that you can explain almost anything to a child as long as you explain it at their level.
