     His feverish patting would attempted to be repelled by a swat from the girl’s own hands, she clearly not interested in being ”babied”, or so she would call it. She already gets it from her family enough!

"I’m okay! I’m fine! This is like my second time here so I know what I’m doin’!"

"Goodness... your second time...? Forgive me Almond, I only wanted to make certain you were safe and sound, if only for my own benefit...I'm glad you're alright and as selfish as it may sound... Well, I'm glad you're here."

The Knight stood propped on one knee, half frowning.

"With Almond here I suppose that means I must put away the 'grape juice' huh? Ah hah, I guess I'll just have to 'ring in the New Year' with the appropriate beverages for one such her age!"

"Seriously, dude? Aren’t you right here?"

"Put a fork in it, and enjoy a cake. Cuco can’t do anything by himself and will come running back sooner or later, if he’s really here."

Carrot side eyes the cake, then looks promptly at her.

"Now wait just a second! Mercy, you're  absolutely here aren't you?! You've been captured by those scoundrels as well!! You aren't hurt are you Almond?! Ooooh.... Please allow me to check!"

Carrot would bend down worriedly patting her head and arms, frantic.

"Eh."

     Casually swallows a mouthful of a chocolate pastry settled within her lap,  she giving a careless shrug towards the other’s general direction. It’s noooot like she’s happy to see him or anything.

"You must be spending the New Year all alone too...! Oh woe are we....!"

"My word...! The eve of the New Year is fast ending! Goodness, and Cucumber is yet to be found, anywhere...! I suppose celebrating it alone isn't too terrible... There will be other years! I'm... sure..."

Unfortunately, for that peculiar guy, Allaway was just passing by when he was praying for the gods to protect her princess or something mellow like that. He would have kept walking, but something caught his attention. His eyes narrowed as he approached the man.

“… I can understand that. I’m a coward myself. When trouble came to my princess, I couldn’t help her— I ended up searching for someone more capable. … But, don’t give up so easily! Just because stars are far away doesn’t mean we can’t still try to reach out to them. … You never know until you try. And even then, I’m sure she’ll appreciate you all the same, buddy. Heck, even if you’re a coward, I’m sure she wants you by her side regardless… that’s what my princess wanted from me.”

"...It's just." He exhaled. "...I failed her too gravely. I abandoned my post and I left the kingdom in peril...! Now Parfait could be....!" 

He stopped himself.

"--the princess... could be hurt or wounded, or injured, or stuck in a damp cell.... and now, I won't even be there to even try to save her. If I save her... It might even be too late..."

He squeezes onto the pendant tighter.

"...But you're right. Even now I can feel her holding onto her necklace."

Carrot blinked. 

"Wait, you too, have a princess with which you pledge your life?"

  Her companions were right; it was a little dark in here, not to mention there was a peculiar musky stench wafting in the air, one she was certain wasn’t there earlier. Pressing a finger to the bottom of her chin dubiously in thought, the princess would echo Carrot’s question. 

“You have a point, Sir Carrot. I don’t think I remember this part of the city.”

     But then again, that’s not saying much.

Cucumber’s companions seemed just as lost as he was, which wasn’t helping him keep his cool. 

"These huge w-walls aren’t usually here?" he questioned, drops of liquid concern trailing down his brow. Tall, graying walls surrounded the group on three sides. Their height could only be vaguely approximated, though to Cucumber they might as well have continued infinitely into the black void above them. Below them, a collection of puddles; their water so eerily still and serene that the path seemed to be lined with a multitude of small mirrors.

"Looks like the only direction we can go is f-forward."

Cucumber slowly tip-toed down the available path, approaching a corner as the trail took a sharp left.

The Dreamsider felt a strong tug from behind, leaving a light, reddened ring on his wrist. As he turned his eyes back towards his friends, he realized they had felt a similar sensation on their own wrists.

Carrot bent down, surveying the small pools ahead and directly infront of him. A low 'mm' escaping as a hand went to his chin, covering his mouth. He raised a brow at the sudden change of appearance within the city but it was almost to be expected from such a strange place. He examined the surrounding area more, standing up as a muffled 'ah huh' escaped his lips. 

Turning to his smaller compatriots he said with a clear voice and an extreme amount of confidence in his voice;

"Yes, I in fact do believe that this is indeed, water!" 

That was almost too embarrassing. But Carrot was rather pleased with his assessment. With a nod of assurance he turned to Nautilus. 

"I do believe Cucumber is right, Princess. Venturing forth appears to be the most preferred action available! Do take care tthat we not- Goodness...!!" 

Carrot felt a slight tug at his wrist, looking down he saw the trail of red that had now connected himself and the Hero, turning to the princess he saw a similar string connected them as well. His eyes widened.

"O-Oh dear... this may prove... ah...hum... slightly troublesome to say the least... What do you suppose this is?"

The prospect of being connected was a good idea, but how mysteriously those threads appeared was a terrifying prospect, a feeling of mild fear seemed to envelop Carrot, the feeling passing to his friends.
