Full Time Writers!
This is a guideline for how to become a full time writer on Serial Scrolls!
First and foremost, I’d like to apologize to everyone hoping to become a full time writer and doesn’t become one. There are only 6-12 positions open currently*. I encourage you all to submit work for Day Seven!
If you do not think you can commit to a bi/weekly schedule, I also encourage you to submit to Day Seven!
The Bit on Fanfiction: While I cannot fully ban submissions of fanfiction, I strongly discourage it. Fanfiction has a heavy online presence and there are a lot of places to share these works already.
However, if you insist, I can at least ask that you submit fanfiction to Day Seven instead of submitting it as your application for a full time position.
Submissions can be sent through email at [email protected] or through the submit button [preferably through email by, like, a LOT]
Application Date Ends: 1 February 2014 [as long as it is before waking up on 2 March]. Subject to extend if needed [either I do not have enough submissions or people have asked me to extend it. if you need more time please let me know!]
New Application Deadline: 1 March 2014
Your name: either a pen-name or your real name. It doesn’t matter
Your URL [optional]: if you have a tumblr
A Picture: for a bio-page if you wish
A Bio: tell me a bit about yourself [will be made public if you are a full time writer]
Social Media: any other social media profiles you would like featured on your bio-page
Which day you would prefer: Monday-Saturday
Schedule: weekly or bi-weekly
Format:
Novel/novella [chapter posted each week]
Short Stories [a short story will be posted each week]
Screenplay [a few scenes posted a week, at your discretion]
This does not mean you have to stay with this format through your entire career here at Serial Scrolls. If, for example, you write 2 short stories to start, and feel a novel brewing in your mind, you are welcome to switch.
If, however, you are writing a longer work [novel/novella/screenplay] I encourage you to finish your current work before starting on a new project. I can’t enforce this, but think of your poor readers!
However, if you wrote an awesome short story during your longer work period and wish to share it, a week can be taken to post that instead.
Your Pitch:
Longer Works: I hate to ask this because I know some people don’t like outlines, but I need an outline. It is more to see that you won’t get stuck in the middle and suddenly change stories or quit altogether. It doesn’t have to be great. Just give me an idea
Short Stories: A handful [maybe 4-8] ideas/outlines for short stories. Again, this is to ensure that you have a reliable source of ideas.
Feel free to include both if you are planning on starting with short stories and moving on to a longer work. [if you are doing the opposite, short story ideas are not needed]
Please also include genre.
A Synopsis: This is different than the pitch. The pitch is a rough step-by-step outline shared between you and Serial Scrolls. The synopsis will be shared along with your story and will give our audience an idea of what to look forward to.
Length of Time: Do you wish to be a full time writer indefinitely? Do you want to publish just one longer work and then retire [or plan to]? Only a couple of short stories you have in mind that you want to share? Give me an idea of how you see your future with Serial Scrolls!
*more may open in the future
NEW DEADLINE!
1 March 2014
Gives you all of February to work on your application
And there will be goodies all of February so look forward to that :D
Day Seven
On Sundays, the blog will be opened up to receive submissions from everybody!
Submissions can be sent through email at [email protected] or through the submit button
How it works:
Submit works anytime. In order to be featured that Sunday it has to be in before 00:00 EST [GMT-5:00] Saturday. If not, it will be featured the following Sunday
If there is enough interest [please send me an ask if you are] a separate category for fanfiction will be opened up. However, for now, please submit it to the appropriate category. [if it has multiple chapters, but under 10K, submit it to the Short Stories category]
Each category will be featured
Longer Works: send in the first chapter of your work and synopsis of the complete work. Up to 10 original first chapters will be featured [depending on how many. If there are, say, 12 submissions, all 12 will be featured].
The chapter with the most notes will be invited back to continue their story until it is finished.
If you are not invited back: please wait another two weeks before you resubmit your chapter to try again. [or feel free to submit an entirely new work for the next week]
Short Stories: Send in the complete work and a synopsis. Up to 15 works will be featured [if there are only a few more, all will be featured]
Poems: Send in the complete work. Up to 20 will be featured [if there are only a few more, all will be featured]

So ... What is this?
Serial Scrolls is a place for writers to share their work.
Each "full time" writer will get a day where their work is published on. Depending on the writer's preference, their work will be featured either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
If two writers are on a bi-weekly basis, they will share the day alternating between weeks.
Person X has Mondays. On Mondays their work will be featured.
Person Y has Tuesdays. On Tuesday their work will be featured
Initially there will be 6-12 "full time" writers, meaning you will find their work on a consistent basis [barring any complications].
On Day Seven of the week, the blog will be opened up to feature new writers in a variety of ways. See Day Seven for more information!
If you have any questions, comments, concern, or feedback please don't hesitate to send me an ask
