“Hey, sorry I’m late,” Jenny apologised immediately once she finally made her way over to the table Seunghyun had grabbed for them in the corner of the quiet cafe. Despite it being the middle of Mercury’s comeback promotions, the two had agreed to meet up for coffee when Jenny had a spare couple of hours, and although part of Jenny wanted to be at home catching up on sleep on her afternoon off, she was glad that she’d be able to catch up with him. A few months ago, the idea of even speaking to Gemini’s leader beyond polite small talk and what was required for the cameras would’ve seemed near impossible, so although their re-found friendship was still somewhat tentative, she was kind of taking all the chances she could get. That, and she hadn’t particularly wanted to leave it over a month before seeing him in person again, both because she worried that leaving such a long gap in their interactions might make some of the initial awkwardness return when they saw each other again, and because (though she was reluctant to admit as much to herself) she would probably miss him. Not that that was a feeling Jenny was unused to, but it somehow seemed more pronounced now that she could actually have him around again in the gaps where she didn’t.
“I hope you didn’t wait too long,” she said, frowning, as she slid into the seat opposite him with a sigh. “We were told we could have the afternoon off in advance, but of course, the morning’s schedule overran. Why did we expect anything else?” She chuckled lightly, shaking her head. “I swear, I love performing, I do, and I miss it when we aren’t doing, but I always forget how mental promotions are until comeback comes around. I think I have selective memory loss.”
Seunghyun didn’t realize how widely he had broken out into a smile when he heard Jenny speak until she sat down across from him. “It’s fine, really,” he assured her, laughing softly at himself as he tried to tried to make his smile look a little less stupid, at least. All she had done was walked in and apologized for being late, and Seunghyun knew that was enough for him to feel like he was becoming an idiot just from being around her. Nearly six years apart really hadn’t made much of a difference on Seunghyun, he had found. Thankfully the two of them had finally started to become close again, and they were past awkwardly smiling at each other anytime they had to interact and leading people to assume that they for some reason had never been close in the first place, but Seunghyun knew that finally starting to close the distance they had let grow between them just made his feelings that much more obvious, at least to himself. He leaned back in his seat, running his hand over the leg of his jeans out of habit. “I got here only a few minutes ago,” he said honestly, not wanting her to have to feel apologetic just from being a little late. “I wasn’t waiting at all.”
“Yeah, I guess KBS can’t guarantee that a day off from the tour will be completely free of promotions,” Seunghyun joked, looking back over at her as she shook her head slightly. “I definitely get that way with comebacks,” he agreed, “especially for comebacks that are just mine and not with the rest of the group. They always seem to spring up out of no where, and then end as quickly as the actual promotions started.”
